I heard the other day that some girl on twitter posted a petition for anyone who wanted to buy the new Taylor Swift Cd to be allowed to skip school so that they could go and buy the Cd.... I personally think that kids should stay in school because there are other ways of getting the Cd. Like parents, grandparents or going before or after school to buy the cd...and I think that if they do skip school they should have to serve detention because thats to me is unexcusable.....their not sick or hurt so there's no reason not to be in school. My friend thinks I'm wrong about this. She thinks its good for kids to learn to stand up for what they believe in........ What do you think?

I personally feel that it depends on the day. If the school has a test on that day, then they should not go to the concert. If nothing is going on that day, than it is perfectly fine to go out and have fun. Just make sure that you don't do it all the time.

First off its not a concert, its kids skipping school to go to walmart or wherever to buy a cd. Second I dont think that school should ever be skipped unless the kid is sick or hurt. Because if you allow them to skip they'll do the same with a job...Oh the boss don't need me today, I'll just fake a cough and take the day and go shopping......Yeah thats why we have slackers in the world.

I apologize then, I made a mistake when answering your discussion. However, you are both right and wrong. I have skip school to get myself a video-game when it was coming out, but I don't skip work because I feel like it. It depends on the person, some will skip when ever they want, while other people have the common sense to skip when it's not a problem to both them, the boss, and the other employees. Yes many slackers did skip school and work to do what they want, but as you can see they never can keep a job nor get good grades at school. However, if you know that the day of school has no test's and nothing important happening then personally I think it's fine to skip.

Your friend is wrong. A cd is just a piece of plastic with music on it, it's not the most important thing in the world. If you only believe that a cd is the most important thing in the world, then you need to change your priorities. School is more important than a cd that's for sure. Any kids skipping school for something as trivial as buying a cd deserve more than detention, they should be suspended for a few days until they learn that a cd will not do what an education will for them.

I totally agree. I told her pretty much the same thing and she said that forcing kids to have teachers force a bunch of meaningless information into a childs head which they will never use does severe damage to their character.....and I'm like WTH? LOL. I used to look up to her and thought that she was pretty smart but she is completely wrong on this.

Does your friend have a job? If she does, then whatever she learned in school, she is using. What I learned in school, I do use, and her thinking that it's damaging is so wrong. I would hope she'd change her mindset sometime soon.

can you knock your friend's head first? hahaha standing up for something they believe in like skipping school for T. Swift is good? i dont think so. Not That Taylor is a bad influence or something but there are times where they could go and buy the cd, like on saturdays or after classes! Standing up for the greater good or something better htan buying a cd is excusable, like maybe standing up because friend needs your help or something similar to that.

If they were standing up for the end of starvation in the world or something equally concerning I'd be saying, "good for you". Education is first. There is a reason why tax payers said lets spend our money on educating our children not on their musical enjoyment! This country needs to be smart to compete in the international market.

I agree that its good to stand up for what you believe, but on the other hand I'm sure Ms Taylor Swift, whom is still in school herself, would want the kids to stay in school. Its not like school is an entire day. Your out by 3pm the latest and you can get to a store then!
