without dieting! The article was interesting and funny, but also qute sensible. The whole idea was to place rich, calorie ladden, snacks in the pantry, preferably behind some other food. In the fridge, you place light food at the first rack: uncooked meat and food at the second and rich leftovers at places where you have to bend to take out. Besides that, it is a good idea to have a relaxing soft musci at the kitchen. We eat less if we are not as anxious. I´ll try it? What do you thnik of it?

Yupz, when food is easily available, we give in to temptations much faster. I employ the same tactic with my wallet, I don't leave too much cash in it so I don't buy things out of temptations.

I think this is worth trying because it´s easy. Even if you just put the nice sooyjing music on, it might help some and it won´t hurt. I understand perfectly well the temptation with potato chips. But I´m adict to chocolate so I NEVER buy it. I only eat chocolate when someone brings me some as a gift. Then I grab it and eat it like a pig until it disappears. My reason helps me at the supermatket; I know it won´t at home so I don´t indulge.

Lol this is one of the best ideas I have gone through recently. It will really help. But there are things which are cheap and are very tempting like Potato chips, I love munching them but I want to avoid it as it has lots of calories...

I identify with the chocolate psychology very well! I do that too, never buy it as people like to give that away as gifts often, so I save my money and the calories too. I'm pretty much a spoilsport last time when I go shopping with friends, especially for food, I would keep asking them, are you sure this is healthy, be careful, a lot of sugar and calories in this one here, blah blah. Now I don't do that anymore, only to my closest friends

Having a good environment while eating your major diets like breakfast, lunch etc is very important. Dinner is normally very less in amount and faster to consume, but other diets should be accompanied with good aura or nice soothing music. Music which can relax you and you need to focus totally on what you are eating and not on your work. I too have noticed that when I am busy thiking about the work to be done, I end up eating more than required and also too fast. I finish eating before my stomach can send a signal to brain saying that my hunger is finished and I need not eat more. By the time signal reaches I have over eaten and I start feeling uncomfortable.

I liked a lot the music idea. I have always known that some music makes me happy and other sad but I hadn´t realised that I could put nice music at the kitchen or dining room to eat less.

Yep puting on some nice music can brighten you up and as a result you will eat only the required quantity!! I sometimes in anger curse myself for being fat and say to myself that I do not care I am fat, I will eat whatever I like and eat all kinds of junk food which is bad

thats quite funny. but problem being id end up moving it all around and i dont think bending a little will help me. much as i eat. ive given up even trying. you know when i got sick 4 yrs ago, i lost so much weight because i couldnt eat much. i realised then that if you get sick that weight comes in handy and help you fight off the sickness.

I read about that too, some time ago. Nothing is only black or white. But I don´t want to look like an anorexic old witch. I just want to take off some of the pounds I put on when I quit smoking.

It seems like a decent strategy. I guess it’s what Dr Phil is talking about when he says that you should make your environment weight loss friendly by getting rid of high calorie food etc. and making it as difficult as possible to get to the naughty snacks sounds like an idea worth putting into practice.

Yup! This week is fridge cleaning week so I´ll rearrange some things. I have´t bought much for the freezer or even for other things as I´m a little short of money and decided to eat what I had at home. It´s the right time to change some habits. Take care, friend!

Thanks, at this point I'll try anything. years ago I bought a pig that sits in my refrigerator and when ever I open the door it says oink oink. pretty effective.

I think it´s a great idea, if we can find the pig!!! You should make a post about it in the "eating healthy" interest. Maybe the pig plus the music and the rearrangement of the fridge will do it. Take care!

My post said nothing about skipping food. It was more about changing food that hurt for healthy ones. PLUS music.

So the plan is to build exercise into your daily life and your snacking. I can believe that the soft music is helpful as well. I have heard that making sure we move more is the one way to be sure that we lose weight and stay healthy.

I am doing fall cleaning right now. I have shelves that are losing weigh, and a closet or two that is losing bulk, but I am not really sure if I am or not. I do find that lively music makes me move more.

I´m thinking of doing a good Spring cleaning at home with some old rock music to help. I´m sure I´d finish sooner and would burn more calories.

Dear Marguicha.........I am laughing because I am overweight by 15kg and since last few years have tried so many hard diets and machines, and what not.......and it made me laugh to read such an easy method. I am actually laughing on myself, because I know when I am hungry I can reach any deep corner of my refrigerator, and soft music will make me only more hungry as I will be more relaxed...Hope now you understand

I´m SO sorry I missunderstood you!You weren´t very explicit though! I went up 10 kilos in a little over a month when I quit smoking. It was NOT a metabolism change: I ate hard candy by tons. I quit smoking because they are too expensive for my budget and I like to travel with the extra money I get by working online (my lungs are beautiful!). I will not try diets that turn me into a worse witch than I am by nature. But this one seems harmless. The worst thing that can happen is that nothing happens. I´ll start with the music thingy Take care!

that seems a very good idea - to have a very relaxing atmosphere at the "eating area" That reminds me that it could be a bad idea to eat at the workplace when there is a lot of stress... unfortunately that is the time when it is not easy to "go away" for a while for a healthy meal ... What do you think ?

Couldn´t you see that you go elsewhere for your lunch break? I mean, isnt there a park or slent place nearby? Or a lovely fountain? Or even a nice lonely tree? It´s not good to eat while you see the computer, the papers, the work and are thinking of work all the tiem you are eating. Even taking a sandwich to the firestairs is better than that. Take care!

Sounds like interesting ideas! For me, I'd have to put my high-calorie junk food in my neighbors pantry. Of course then SHE would gain weight, and probably be mad at me. I don't know if the shelf placement would work for me. I'd have a small, padded (short) stool next to the fridge so that I could get to the 'good stuff' on the bottom shelf easier. Good luck!

Shame!!! I thought about the padded pillow to kneel to the bottom shelf too, but I decided it wasn´t exactly what the article wanted us to do. Soothing muusic is an idea to try. It won´t hurt and it´s nice.

I think it sounds like a good idea. I went to Weight Watchers years ago and I learned that people do tend to eat more when they're upset. I know I used to eat more whenever I was upset. I just might try this idea, myself.

I like to watch television while I'm eatting, lol! I like the idea of having music while eatting, too. I'm a musician, myself, and I think it's a good accompaniment, especially while eatting in restaurants.

How you eat is a way of life. Diets don't work because of it. Loose weight, gain weight, again and again.

This makes sense especially the relaxing music. I do have a problem though with placing uncooked food on the second rack in the fridg and leftover on the third rack where you have to bend down. Uncooked meat often drips and leaks so if it is on the second rack it might contaminate cooked food that was left over and is stored on the last rack. It could then make you very sick if you ate the leftovers. I always place uncooked meat on the last rack which is solid plastic in my fridge so if there is a leakage I can see it and clean it.

I sort of prepare the uncooked food in such a way that can be put into a container. I do not have too long meats there. If you cut up chicken, fish or any other meat in pieces and cover them well in containers instead of leaving them in those foam and plactic things, you will be preserving them better and they will not drip. What other food are you thinking it will drip? Maybe we can find a solution.

It is weird, since people are talking about hiding food that increase calories when one smart person comes up with an idea that you can put them in a place that can be easily accessed to. I do not think it will work, you will get to these foof anyone as they are at your finger tips. I bet it wont work, please try it and tell us here whether it worked or not.

I specially liked the music part because I like music. But I do think that hiding some of the worst things we buy form ourselves will also help some. Nothing is perfect though, but all helps.
