http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/10/19/national/main6973903.shtml Stewie is a Maine Cooon cat from Reno, Nevada, that holds the Guiness World Record for being the world's longest cat. He's 48-1/2 inches long from the tip of his nose to the tip of his tailbone. I think they said he weighs in somewhere between 35-40 pounds. When he stands on his hind legs, he's as tall as an 8 year old child & his paws fit in a Child's size 2 shoe. His owner has had him since he was a kitten & said he just never stopped growing. He's now 5 years old & she thinks he has finally stopped. She says he is a sweet & loving cat!!! Have you ever heard of such a thing or personally known an animal that broke a record for its breed???

What a beauty! My Maine Koon is nowhere near as long, but he was abandoned, so we're not really sure if he's 100% or not--probably not, since he is orange. But he is well over three feet long, and it's pretty funny to see me carry him around, because I am barely 5 feet! And mine is a sweetie, too, just like "Stewie," although he does have a temper and can use it if he gets aggravated.

I find it interesting ...I saw Stewie on the Today Show. When I went to start this discussion, I wanted to add a link with his pic. I did a search of "World's Longest Cat". Stewie is the current holder & the one before him was 4 foot long & another Maine Koon, so I'm wondering of it's not a breed characteristic. A three foot cat is nothing to sneeze at!!! Maybe you can answer a question for me...Do they make good lap cats??? My thinking is that a 4 foot, 35 pound cat would be too heavy to hold for long!!!

I read about him online. He's a beauty. I expected Solo to get about that size, but his midget mama kept him to a rather smaller size. In spite of his being bigger than she was at 5 months he only made it to 12 lbs by a year and 14 was his top weight, and the he started getting sick. We are finally going to treat him this winter (pull his teeth) and he might gain to weight again and start looking good again too. I'm sure Stewie can put away some kibbles, I know my hoard does!

I saw that cat on the TV, he's a real beauty, but I'll bet he takes a lot of room out of the bed. And his lap time must be limited by his size. I mean, how long could you hold that guy on your lap?

I saw him on the Today show this morning. I had a 20 pound cat & his lap time was considerably short. It didn't take him long to learn that he would get more attention if he only laid his paws on my leg & his head in my lap. He'd stretch out next to me & lay his paws on my leg & then put his head on his paws. He loved having his ears scratched!!! I was wondering how much Stewie eats??? I don't think they addressed that subject.

Wow that was a very big cat, I wanted to have someone like him. My cats are small and slim.
