Do you eat TV dinners on a regular basis?

I've recently lost 40 pounds, but at the beginning of my journey I would always by those "healthy" microwaveable meals for their convenience. Later, I found out about how much sodium and preservatives that are put into them, which doesn't make them as healthy as they claim. I thought everyone was like me and ate them maybe twice a week or so, but most people who were on a healthy journey did not eat them at all! Which is understandable once you learn about how much salt is in them. I can see how they'd be good for work, because instead of getting something from a pizza place or the vending machine, you could eat the small meal...(Might be the better of two evils)...But I've been trying to cut down on the microwave meals lately. How many microwaveable meals do you eat in a week, month, or year even?

Firstly - congrats on the 40 pound weight loss! That's amazing.. and inspiration. I'm trying to lose ~20 and not having all that much luck at it. I'm not necessarily the healthiest person but, no, I don't eat TV dinners at all actually - the healthy OR "unhealthy" kind. I'm a vegetarian, though, and rarely do they come in kinds wityhout meat (some Lean Cuisines have them, but not very many varieties). Anyway, I don't really like them. I eat out (fast food) MAYBE once a week. Not sure what I do during the week, really, but I usually end up throwing something together. I think they're convenient for people who need to transition from EATING the unhealthy, quick-to-prepare TV dinners, but I wouldn't do it every day. MAYBE once a week. I think at some point, in order to eat healthy, people need to stop eating so many processed meals and starting learning how to cook healthfully. But hey, what do I know? I'm 20lb overweight. lol.

Don't worry, 20 lbs isn't that much! I think it's great you are a vegetarian. Kudos to that! I could never go down that path so I admire your strength! You must be very healthy if you stay away from meat. My weakness is red meat, which is so unhealthy, so I'm sure being a vegetarian helps you in almost every aspect when it comes to health.

I have eaten my share of TV dinners over the years. it isn't something i eat or serve my family on a regular basis. Every once in a while is good enough.

I don't do much of those foods, but I will have a hotpocket once in a while when I need something quick. I've slacked off the past few years and trying to get back on track myself. Congrats on your weight loss. Processed foods don't do much for you. If the food is alive, meaning vegetables, that's where the nutrition is. Fish and poultry are best for meats if cooked right. But that all said, I must admit (to my embarrassment) that one of the main reasons for not eating tv dinners is that there's not much in them! I mean, you pay a few dollars for a few bites...hardly worth it to me, but I guess that's just the bad part of me talking. Good luck in reaching your future goals. Keep up the good work.

I'm not a microwave meal person, to tell you the truth. I prefer to cook if I have the time, and if I don't, to prepare something cold or a sandwich. Microwave meals are OK, and very confortable to prepare, as you don't have to care much about ingredients, cutting, dirtying a kitchen knife, etc., but as you pointed out, they're not exactly good for the body, so I prefer to avoid them as much as I can.

Hi Lilblondiemjd, I hardly ever eat those things. I just really don't like most of them. Once in a while I will have a potpie or frozen pizza but not often. I usually fix up my own frozen dinners from leftovers of meals that I've cooked myself. You can package them up and put them in the freezer and they'll be ready to pop in the microwave whenever you want. They are way healthier than the frozen ones that you buy and just as quick and easy.

Hello there: I have to read between the lines to know the environment you are in: I may assume you're in a highly urbanized area away from the countryside. The words "microwave oven, pizza place and vending machine" reveals that fact. For us, living here out far from civilization, they're strange creatures. Only a few ever saw them or knew they existed. We will just pluck whatever grows around and eat them outright raw, stewed or roasted. For most people who are used to spoons, knives, soup bowls and the like, they may find it repugnant to pluck a live sardine right from the fishing net, take out the innards, wash it on water and eat it a la cormorant. Believe me, the taste is far better than the one on the can. The point here that, the lesser amount of processing is being done to the food we take, the better it tastes and the healthier it is. For those living in urban areas, this is quite impossible given the distance between the sea and the dinner plate. Definitely, I don't have a microwave oven. I haven't eaten food processed in one either.

I might eat 3-4 TV dinners a year. Sadly, they are not good for you at all. Bottom line anything processed is horrible for you and not a healthy food choice. If you are trying to lose weight eating several small healthy meals is best and stay away from anything processed. Not only is processed food bad for your waist line, its one of the reason cancer is so high. Its downright bad for you. Don't believe what labels and commercials tell you, they lie to get you to buy their crap. Have a wonderful day!!
