How good is your general knowledge?

Today I borrowed a book called: "The things that every Dane ought to know" and it introduces the reader to several subjects. In the book you can find basic knowledge about science, animals, geography, world history, politics, languages, religions, psychology, music, art, sport etc. You don't become an expect if you read the book, but you do get a kind of basic knowledge about every topic. I look forward to reading the book, it looks pretty interesting. I am interested in geography, psychology, religions and music and I have already read quite a lot about those topics, but I don't know much about science and the different types of flowers, trees and animals and I look forward to reading about those topics. I am sure that I will also learn something from the chapter about world history. How good is your general knowledge? Have you ever tested yourself or participated in a competition? How do you improve your general knowledge? Books? The internet? etc. What are your strengths and your weakness? (which topics)

Hi Porcospino!. I never really tested my general knowledge so i don't know how good is it, the only way I said its quite good I can follow any kind of conversation with my friend. I love reads a book and catch on the recent news. Maybe my weak side is showbiz news or soap opera because i don't following its. In my country there show called who want to millionaire hot seat and I think its will be a good way to test our general knowledge.

Just like you I don't know much about soap operas etc, because I don't watch them. I can't answer the questions about the actors and things like that. In my country the show called "who wants to be a millionaire" is pretty popular, and I have watched a couple of the shows. I recently discovered an online game where you are able to play "Who wants to be a millionaire" against other players. I sometimes play that game, it is a fun way to test my general knowledge.

I'm not sure. My friends and I fooled around one time with a trivia quiz book, and I was pretty good at subjects like religion, music and proverbs and sayings. I was lagging on old movies and art

the book you mentioned is so interesting. is it in english? i checked amazon but didn't find it. i am a generality type of person and do not interested in being an expert in any field. for me, a highly specialized modern society seems to be problematic to human nature. no doubt people got depression after 5 days specialized machine-like hard working. thanks for sharing!

It is a shame that they don't make the book in English, I would love to read it. I think I am okay in general knowledge, however, I think everyone needs to brush up every now and again. I now homeschool my middle child, and I realize when teaching him, all the things you tend to forget over the years.

Hi! I have been interested in general knowledge, (aka trivia), useless knowledge that comes up in a game show or in a trivia game, for a long, long time. If you like that stuff, read "The Book of Lists" 1,2 and 3, by Wallace and Wallacheski. I know you are going to love those!! Happy reading! Hugs!!

I am pretty good actually. I always do well at Trivial Pursuit and Who wants to be a millionaire and that kind of thing. I think it is because I have been reading a lot since I was a child. And also, I have a good memory, which helps too I guess. I am not as good when it comes to all topics though. Like some science related stuff (space stuff and all kinds of medical stuff), I have never been interested in those thing, so even though I do know enough I think, I could probably still improve on those things. My best subjects are probably languages, geography, history, social sciences and culture in general (you know, arts, fashion, sports, cuisine and all that). Many of those were my favorite subjects in school too, so I guess it makes sense that way!

I like trivial pursuit and who wants to be a millionaire. Sometimes games like that make me realize that I don't know as much as I thought but it is nice way to learn something new while I am having a good time with my friends. I also have a pretty good general knowlegde, and just like you I have been reading a lot since I was a child and I am interested in many different topics, but there are certain topics that I don't know much about like science or computers.

i only rely on logic. most of the time. but i can't promise myself to understand a lot of things around me. and if i don't get it right, i honestly accept that i don't know it. rather than to put myself in trouble in the end.thanks for sharing about the book as well. there maybe other books in english that talks a bit similar about its interest.

I usually read quiz books from a natural curiosity to know more. Also Reading the daily newspapers is a constant factor for me.For the competitive exams to get government jobs general knowledge is compulsory and so I am always preparing myself and keep up to date with current affairs.

I am fairly confident when it comes to general knowledge. i tend to know a bit about this and that. Sometimes what I know comes in handy. Sometimes I am left in the cold.

I think my general knowledge is quite average. And I can’t say it good. Because sometime I forget something when anybody asked any question related to general knowledge. But I always try to enhance my knowledge by reading books and by internet. Because I think internet is also a good way for me to learn something and also improve our general knowledge.

My general knowledge is not so good but I try to get information from internet, when I was young during my college and school time I used to buy and read general knowledge books, which I thought are necessary for sitting in any exam or interview but now a day, I am not reading books, for general knowledge and news I only read news papers or news sites. And I think it is enough for me, just to have information what is going in the world....:)
