I am so glad you brought this up. I was going to and you beat me to it. GRRR!!lol I don't care for Stephen King. I guess I like them up until about 2/3 through and then I get a BIG let down which is frustrating to me. As a writer I love his descriptive give and his story telling talent is sublime but, I just don't care for the let down. I love Edgar Allen Poe. Indeed. Eery, creepy stuff. Yum! The classics are great and this time of year we get all kinds of scarey movies on TCM and AMC and afew others. I like having the chose of all of them coming on and catching them again. I caught Dracula 2000 lastnight which someone had told me in one of my recent discussions was a good one. It was. I recently saw '30 Days of Night' and I give it the priverbial thumbs up for creepy, gorey, fare. My favorite story is our local Hatchet Man. Up in the foothills there is a cave and it is said he lived up there and terrorizes the area back in the 30's and 40's I guess. Just a story. I hope! And in closing I think it depends on my mood. I go from the old Dark Shadows tongue in cheek techno stuff to the really weird stuff. Just depends. I love Halloween.

The stories I like the best are the ones that are possible, like the Alfred Hitchcock movies.

Hitchcock did the best (so far) film version of Rebecca. That to me is a ghost story even though there is no "ghost" in the paranormal sense, the character of Rebecca haunts Manderlay and the new Mrs De Winter. It's also one of my favourite books ever, really creepy!

Just about anything by R.L. Stine. Anything from R.L. Stine's "Goosebumps" series.

I really don't like gore. I guess I'm an old fashioned Halloween fan. I love the story of Ichabod Crane. They used to have an animated Ichabod Crane special that I loved. It's still kind of spooky, even though I'm an adult now.

I wrote a response and Mylot lost it. I'll try again. I like comedy, love stories, and action. So I'm not a big fan of horror. But I have seen some great spoofs like Scary movie. I like the Harry Potter books and movies. The Ghost of Mrs. Muller was a love story, the original moviel. Ghost, that was a love story with some comedy thrown in. There was a movie one time about a woman who became a vampire, so she cursed herself to sleep. Someone uncursed her. She saw a blood bank and thought, "I love this century." She went in to make a withdrawal and they got a kick out of that, but soon realized she was serious. Then she passed out. At the hospital, they gave her a lot of blood and were trying to find out what was wrong with her. In the meantime, some vampire guy was stalking her. He has always wanted her, etc. It ended up being a comedy, love story, and it had some action. It was fun. She fell in love with her Dr. who thought she had dilutions due to low blood. It was funny. Take care.

I like reading ghost stories but honestly I haven't read any in years. I end up watching more ghost type programs on TV around this time of the year than reading about them.

No! Can't stand them! Halloween please go away soon! Yeah, I'm not one for horror at all. Fear is not an emotion I like to bask in, and I'm rather fond of not having nightmares at night. I could hardly stand to read Edgar Allen Poe in school. I'd walk away from class jumping at every little noise. No horror for me, thank you!

Hvedra- I adore Edgar Alan Poe! My husband does a wonderful reading of the Raven and I could listen for hours to him read the other tales. One of my favorite poems by Poe is Annabel Leigh. Very nice! We have little ones though so we don't do a lot of readings of anything too scary with them. We have a few less intimidating children's books that are for Halloween but are done so without the excess. Namaste-Anora
