It always happens in my previous job, I do about 3 to 4 extra jobs when the personnel of the position is sick or leave. It's not that hard to learn their job but I don't want to be in their position forever. In the bright side, I learned many jobs so when they need a reliever they call me. When they need a worker who can do multiple jobs in rest day, they choose me which makes me an extra good income. I also retained in the company when the worker reduction. I'm happy but tired to do the jobs of other too.

I know it sucks big time when you do work that is not yours. But as you have said, your co-employee got sick and the tasks are very important. I suggest you organize your thoughts and tasks. First, before going home or sleeping, list out the task you need to do the next day and set a time for each. Make sure you follow what you have listed by checking each task you have finished. It will save you time and you will see that you have finished many tasks in one day. Just think that you are helping the company, you will have added experience and your co-employee will be happy and will owe you one. Maybe if you need to rest also for a long time, that co-employee will gladly take your job because you also did his/her job. This will only be temporary, once you have a system in what you do, everything will be easy. Remember, "rest if you must, but don't you Quit!".
