Spring is starting here. My raised bed are doing nicely in some ways, badly inothers. I have snails so there are plants they won´t let grow. But the tomato plants are wonderful and I have already eated radishes and arugule. I have tp plant the sweet peppers again, but planted some potatoes in sacs and they are doing great (the upper part, at least). I know I have australian friends. And I´m sure there are people from South America besides myself. What are you palnting? Are you going some gardening at this time of the year? Share?

Hiya margi, Well I am not Gardening as I can´t Garden this Garden like I said before it´s all artificial stuff just for show like seeds that grow in a Seedbox there is only that depth in the Soil. Outside in the Street that is real Soil but they won´t let me grow anything there. My Husband keeps talking about growing tomatoes and lettuces when we get our House with a small Garden. But guess who he thinks is going to do all of the Work me, moi of course. That is his logic of course. He likes to eat all the home grown things but not to plant them or dig any Garden (grin). How lucky to be able to plant and grow. I have not seen a decent Tomato in the Shops this Summer I was given a load of ugly funny shaped tomatoes with no shine on them and they were fantastic they lasted much longer than the ones you buy in the Shops and they taste so much better and also the outside skin is much thinner too. As for the Lettuces the home grown ones there were two or three small ones they gave me and you just can´t compare the taste of them with the others of the Shops. I have found some decent green Beans for now though so I am not complaining as they are not very pricey. Still I would love to be able to grow my own things but for now I search around all I can for decent fresh things all I can.

Hi friend, I´m doing my best fighting with snails. They love green beans more than anything in the world. I plant, they eat. Still, my tomatoes are doing nicely, the sweetpeppers are small plants still but we have all Summer and I´m eating more than my share of radishes and arugule (THAT´s easy to grow). I bet you could plant those in coffee cans and the´d grow. I would not trust your husband to help you with the garden, but when you have some small piece of earth, even one plant makes you happy.

Hiya margi, Did´nt know that Snails loved Green Beans so much I thought they were all for the Cabgages and lettuces. I can´t plant anything as this House faces North and South directly so on one end they get shrivelled up and on the other end they die from the Cold. Too many extremes and right at this moment I don´t if we are staying here much longer as there are things going on at the moment. I can´t seem to settle anywhere. I hope we can stay because I have settled but none of these have.

While I don't live in the southern hemisphere, I can offer you advice on dealing with the snails. Slugs and snails are notorious for destroying plants and are easy to get rid of with the proper knowhow. I'm not sure what kinds of products you have to get rid of pests, but here we have slug and snail bait. You can get it in a box at any garden center, and it comes in pellet form. You put it around the plants that the slugs/snails are eating and they'll eat the bait and slowly die. You put it down in the morning when the snails are out, not during the day when it's warmer because they will hide. You can mix it into the soil or just leave it on top and they will find it. Slugs love Hostas, but they will eat anything they can get. Once you get rid of them, they should start to stay away, but that's not always the case. Good luck with the snails.

Hi kris, We have snail and slug baits here in pellets and powder .But I´m trying not to use any kind of products to control pests as I´m not sure how bad they are for the environment.

Hi Margy, I'm financially strapped these days and that's probably why I haven't thought too much about buying plants and other necessary stuff to do some veggie gardening. We've had some wonderfully good rain this year which is a new experience for me as I've only been here 5 years and it's been mostly dry. The plants I do have in are doing really well and I'm enjoying watching them thrive with the lovely fresh rain water...we have bore water normally and the plants don't like it all that much. It recently took me 4 days to mow the lawn recently and that was all the front and just a small section out the back...the goats graze out the back so I just tidied the immediate back area and left the rest for them. Each spring/summer I have been here has been noticeably different so far. It's been interesting.
