My son came to see me and took one look at myleg and had a fit over itl He said its much worst than it was a week ago. For three w eeks now I have been waiting to get this referral for a dermatologist to see my rash on my leg. its bleeding serun and blood and is swollen. Also it hurts now a lot. Am I silly for worrying as I am a diabetic? My mind is running over different sceanrios as to what to do. My son said to call my HMo as a courtesy and if they cannot do something at once I am to tell them I will then have to go to the emergency room. I do not want to lose my leg to an infection so much as I hate it think I should go to the emregeny room tomorrow morning. My son gave me cab money as the ambulance co pay is one hundred fify.My son said to go to the ER in Fountain Valley Emergency room.Making this into a discussion have any of the rest of mylotter friends ever dallied about an illness or health issue and had another family member tell you you need to see a doctor immediately? It does look so bad, and truthfully I am scared, I am a diabetic and anything on my feet or legs that looks infected really scares me.

I would be taking supplements for skin and for healing. I have a show I watch on cable that is on the Family channel 394 where I am. It is on holistic health with Dr. Becker and his wife. The website that coinsides with this show is: www.bioinnovations.net Lots of very good information. If you are having this much trouble just getting in to see a dermatologist then, if I were you, I would start doing some research and see if I could Heal it from with in with nutrients. They have a base book on nutrition which might be very valuable to you. I will include their toll free number as well. Good luck to you. 1-800-635-2673

hi Celticeagle thanks for all the great information. would you believe that one lousy number off my street address made by one of the doctor's office peersonell made my referral letter end up at the wrong address on my street.so between the kind lady at my health insurance and my own docotors office they got the referral faxed d to the dermatologist so now I have at last got an appt tomorrow at 2 pm and a ride with access for which I did have the money.so I am getting some real medical help. I know that supplements can help if one knows which to take.

Glad to hear things turned out okay for you. I think being proactive and reading the books this site has to offer is really important. Then we know what supplements to take. Nature mending is very important.

I would definitely be concerned about it. It may not be anything serious but it also could be something that needs to be seen. You should not take any risks when it comes to your health. I do not know much about being diabetic, but it sounds as though the fact is worrying you. Also, I am in Australia so I know that public hospital care is free for us, but not for you guys. Our ambulances are also free. You are lucky to have your son to help you out but I think that you should definitely get it seen to- your health is priceless.

I am also having diabetes and sometimes I get worried with rashes or small injuries occurring in my leg. Right now it is summer and the climate is very hot and I think I had some sunburns or something like that in my leg. I put my leg in water and salt and put some spray to heal it and now I am feeling better. I think we should care to some extent to avoid these rashes or small injuries and finally prevention is better than cure.

Hi Hately, You please go to the doctor as soon as possible. Your son is the only one to take care of you so you please listen to him. There won’t be anything to worry; yes I know that diabetic persons should take come extra care when they got any wound because it is difficult to cure. I think that may be the concern of your son too. Get well soon, our prayers are with you.

I am not a medical practitioner and it makes me so sad not to give you any advice , but as a layman, please try water therapy for the moment.Yes being diabetic, you should be worried about things like this, but no need to panic, for I am sure you will find a remedy for that. Just hang in there and prayers helps a lot.Believe me...

I'm really happy to hear that the situation with the referral letter got worked out. I was really worried when you mentioned the sore leg. It's no small matter. Certainly, more than one person (diabetic or otherwise) has lost a foot or limb from an infected sore. It's something you need to have looked after immediately. Hopefully, the doctor will be able to do something for the infection before amputation is required. My best wishes go with you.

I hope by now your wound has been seen to Hatley and that your fears have been laid to rest with your leg being treated and on the mend. You know this already but you really do need to be ever vigilant with any problems with your hands, feet and lower limbs. Your circulation can take a nasty turn with you as a diabetic. Take care of you.

Hi sweet pea. Is the wound at all painful. I just had a thought you see. My Mum suffered for years with an ulcer on her lower leg, just above her ankle. It would erupt, and weep and not clear up for months no matter what the treatment was. Mum would even be put in hospital so she would stay off her leg to give things a chance to heal. I so hope it's not an ulcer.

hi mystickle I am now waiting for the referral to a wound specialistas I have seen the dermatologist who shunted me back to my p rimary care'doctor who finnally was the one to send for a referral to a wound specialist. now the stuff looks better and what if it really decided to heal up and leave before I get the referral, that would be funny after all this time. I am' taking one strong antibiotic and wondering if that is a good' idea for thirty days.

Hatley I would be concerned. My mum is also a diabetic and she had a very similar issue which turned out to be "cellulitis" if I've spelled it correctly. It almost took over her legs and led her to be very unwell and was quite serious. I would personally suggest seeing a doctor, it's always worth being safer than sorry. Hope your okay though :)

hi joey yes I am concerned and have finally got an appt. with the dermatologist for 2 pm tomorrow after being on the phone for an hour at least. the nicest lady at my HMo helped me to run down the referral and it was a careless office girl who got the number of the street wrong although she got the street right. I was upset so was sharp and said I want you to fax this over right now this nminute. she did and gave me the doctors name and phone number. so again they were going to shunt me off for two weeks. I once more firmly said no this is too serious . I must have an appt. tomorrow. So now am all set for 2pm tomorrow and even have got the ride scheduled as I could afford five dollars. what a load off my shoulders as I was so worried.

I guess I dillydallied over my problems in the summer of 08 because I thought they'd get better, or it was just more of my fibro - turned out it was my gall bladder passing stones into my pancreas

I'm was advised to take a few weeks off, because of the pancreas stuff. That and my fibro keeps me from healing well... didn't HELP my car was in the shop a week longer than I was in the hospital! I was home, but kind of STUCK home too. Happily, while we had to go shopping the second weekend, my guy friend, J, (so you know its not the roommate J or the gal friend J) took me shopping to get a few things we just couldn't live without (like all that cat litter!)

Hi Hatley! You are not being silly for worrying, and I hope you took your son's advice and went to a doctor or emergency room. With diabetes, the most insignificant-looking skin problems on your feet or legs can mean big problems. It's definitly beyond needing just a dermatologist, if for no other reason than to see what it is, and if you are at risk because of your diabetes. If it's a blistery rash, only one one leg, that is becoming more painful, you could even have shingles. Please go, and let us know how you make out, ok?

I said loudly it must be tomorrow as I need help now. so I now have an appt. for two pm tomrrow so am glad I will get some needed help;

Oh my gosh! That should really scare anyone and make anyone worried! Have you seen a doctor now? Talk to your PCP (Primary Care Physician). I don't think a dermatologist would do. Your PCP should refer you but right now just go to ER. I've encountered patients like you and being a diabetic there is really a big reason to worry. Please, make efforts to lower your blood sugar. You would have greater problems if your sugar is high because it also prevents healing from occurring. Call 911. That's a real serious problem. I'm not just scaring you, okay? If you have anything like that my friends, please. Don't even think anymore what you'll do. GO TO THE HOSPITAL ASAP AND SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION.

I'm so glad you have the appointment now. I just don't know why these people that work in these offices do not double check what they have done so they don't make those kind of mistakes. They just don't slow down and double check to make sure what they did is right. They know that they do not get things right every time and when they are dealing with someones health issues they need to double check. When all is said and done you have the appointment you've been waiting on.

Good morning Hatley. I am diabetic as well and when it comes to my legs and eyes, I always am nervous as well. I would definitely go to the ER if your son said it is getting worse. I think sometimes when you see it everyday you don't notice the daily changes as much as someone that hasn't seen it in a week. I would definitely take your son's advice and go! I would rather someone tell me I am paranoid and it be nothing, than to keep waiting for your doctor and it be something serious. Way back when my mother thought she had the flu, she kept throwing up and throwing up and she kept making excuses. My dad called me at work and told me what was happening. I was about 30 at the time and I never remembered my mother to have the flu. I left work immediately just thinking something might have been wrong. When I got to there house my mother looked grey. I told her she was going to the hospital immediately. Well she obviously said she wasn't going, because she knew her body better than anyone else. I was extremely forceful and told her she WAS going to the hospital if I had to drag her in the car myself. She ended up going and we found out that she was have mini heart attacks. She ended up having to have 4x bypass surgery within 2 days. To this day, I am not exactly sure why I was so sure something was wrong with my mother, and I really feel bad for talking so mean to her. Sometimes I think outsiders (or family that doesn't see their family every day) can tell when something is wrong. Please take your son's advise and go to the ER today. Please let us know what the outcome is. I will say a pray that it is nothing serious. Hugs.
