Has your computer ever made you jump out of your skin?

There was total silence as I was computing. Then suddenly, "You won!" rings out from the computer so loudly that I jumped. My husband had put the sound on to HIS level again (he's hearing impaired) and then disconnected his headphones. So some commercial, at the top of the screen, under the rulers, where I couldn't see, hiding, laid in waiting, and frightened me. Yipe! Must be the movies I've been watching. So has your computer or any computer ever startled you?

It quite often does that for me. My grandson quite often using my laptop in the evening last thing at full volume. Then I get on it in the morning and go through the roof when I turn it on and get a blast of something stupid. SOmewhat like when my friend sent me a picture of a rolling wave and youre watching in awe when all of a sudden a screeching witch comes on the screen and I am floor crying!! Oh ya.

That's a heck of a thing to send. Maybe your grandson and my husband could be trained to turn things down before they turn things off? I have more hope for your grandson than my husband (over 50, very hard to train, my cats are easier to train, but not by much).. Thanks and take care.

Men aren't really trainable I don't think. They will finally, begrungingly do something but I don't think they are trainable. My grandson, poor little guy, doesn't have a chance! He lives with all women! The email that was sent was a joke and I get atleast one a year. Last year I got a ghost. Fun! Boo!

If a person wants to train them to be different from what they are, yes, men aren't trainable. But they can get into an automatic habit. Otherwise, we'd never have a militaryh.

That must have been amazingly loud! Glad you can laugh at it now! I'll have to watch out for those ticky little Halloween Happy faces in the future.

Yes, it has. I usually keep the speakers turned on because I listen to music and so on sometimes, when I'm working, but there are sites that automatically open videos or audio files that startle me. It irritates me, too. If I want to listen to them, I can start them myself. I always leave quickly when the files automatically load.

Automatically starting videos does sound bad. The other day was the first time I ever had anything like that happen to me. On my old desktop, the light was on the small speakers and I knew when it was on. If my husband left them on, I would just shut them off before I started. This desktop doesn't seem to have that feature. The sound seems to come on when it is on. But there was no sound until that, knock you out of your seat, "You won!" That was horrible. Give me the old sound system!

Yes, I remember that, but can't recall what site it happened on all the time. I think it was those smileys and it got to the point where I'd just keep the sound down..Now, since I got another computer, that doesn't happen, so maybe it was a site I use to visit often, but not anymore, like MySpace???

Maybe This was on top of my email. I had just settled down to relax and start reading my email. It was totally quiet and then, "You won!" almost blasted me out of my seat!
