The technician said it might be cause of the OS. So he reformat my sister's laptop. But after that it hanged again when she got home and use her laptop. What could be the problem aside from OS what is the other reason for that. If its the hardware what part of the hardware?

Hi angelbelle578! As an IT student I assume the problem is RAM or HDD. You can test RAM with any Live Linux distribution (download Ubuntu and in the boot menu you'll have option to check memory). HDD can also be the problem so I suggest you to check the SMART status of the HDD. For checking SMART status of the HDD use software like HD Tune. I hope this will help you to locate the problem. Take care and happy mylotting!

I read everyone responses and since most of them said it could be the ram or the HDD I guess reformatting it was the best idea. Since it will be like starting a fresh new computer. Recently my laptop screen act up and the colors became horrible. So I had to take my laptop apart bascailly inside out haha. Well yeah back to your problem lol.I have some questions for you by the way maybe I can help. What is your intel processor What is the RAM on your What operating system you have ? How old is this laptop? If you can tell me the model that will help as well. Do you play a lot of video games? Or go on complex programs like Photoshop and etc ? Movie editing photo editing Hopefully I will be able to help I don't have a degree in this but i have been dealing with computers for a very long time lol

Hi angelbelles578, my laptop did hang every now and then early. This really annoyed me for I had to switch off the power and took out the battery as well. Such problem became more and more often. This consumed much time and was so troublesome too to restart the device frequently. I couldn't bear the disgusting high frequency operation I'm then willing to send it to the computer shop. The technician told me the same thing that this was due to the operating system. And he advised me to reformat the device. As I don't have much knowledge about which part of the laptop is affected. I could rely the technician only. I then agree with him and left my laptop there for a day service. My laptop works well after having the system reformat. I'm glad that it doesn't give me the same problem again The only thing is, I have to download certain files which are no longer existing in my device Happy posting

Apart from possible dying HDD and RAM size, another possible reason is the quality of the RAM used in the laptop. I have seen cases of hanging system due to a low quality RAM. Maybe it was the heat causing it to malfunction, or a compatibility issue. If this is the case then you will have to replace the RAM.

Hello angelbelle578. Another reasons might be the hardware. Kindly check her laptop Random-Access Memory (RAM). If she use many application simultaneously, the laptop memory will heavy and hang.

Hello! System hanging can happen due to many reasons. OS problem is in fact the last one. Only if when it happens frequently we can suspect the OS and system formatting. When we use the computers always files from the OS are brought out and sent back. RAM comes into picture here. Quite often we try to rush up the actions, when the system cannot respond at the pace and halts. The speed of action depends upon the processor, called clock speed. Some softwares also tend to corrupt the windows registry which also could result in hanging. You have to identify the one and reload freshly.

What does your sister do on the laptop? I don't think it's the OS. It depends on what your sister does. Like for example if she plays video games on her laptop, her laptop doesn't have all the right hardware to be able to play video games fully to the max. It can also be that the laptop doesn't have enough RAM.

Maybe u should change the OS instead of formatting it? If it keeps hanging for no reason, it's best that u change the whole set for a new one. haha =D It's a waste of time and money to keep bringing it for repairs right? Even if there's warranty for the laptop, it only last for about 2 years. SO it's not fair for the laptop to be in the repair room, when u should be using it without any problems.. hehe
