Friends, we find people quarreling with each other,
disagree with parents, with spouse, many can’t get along under one roof.
Well I read this story, “If a tigress & piglets can get along, why can't the rest of the world?”
This inspired me to start this discussion. Please read the story and shares your opinion.
In a zoo in California, a tigress gave birth to a set of triplet cubs. Unfortunately, due to complications in the pregnancy, the cubs were born prematurely and due to their tiny size, they died shortly after birth.
The mother tiger after recovering from the delivery suddenly started to decline in health, although physically she was fine. The veterinarians felt that the loss of her litter had caused the tigress to fall into a depression .The doctors decided that if the tigress could surrogate another mother's cub's, perhaps she would improve.
After checking with many other zoos across the country, the depressing news was that there were no tiger cubs of the right age to introduce to the mourning mother. The veterinarians decided to try something that had never been tried in a zoo environment. Sometimes a mother of one species will take on the care of a different species. The only 'orphans' that could be found quickly, were a litter of weaning pigs. The zoo keepers and vets wrapped the piglets in tiger skin and placed the babies around the mother tiger. Would they become cubs or pork chops??
I think the tiger will never eat them, what is your view?
Do you differ in opinion with your spouse, your parents and kids?Professor

I remember seeing this on the news & it is a sweet story. I don't think the tigress would eat the piglets after accepting them as her own!!! Unfortunately, according to Snopes, Truth or Fiction & Urban Legends, this story is fabricated to a degree. This was not a Mother Tiger from an unnamed zoo in California that was depressed & needed to be saved. This picture was taken at the Sriracha Tiger Zoo in Chonburi, Thailand, where they have a petting zoo & other activities to entertain their guests. The piglets were dressed like tiger cubs for a special event the zoo in Thailand was having that particular day. This particular zoo has successfully integrated many species that do live in harmony day in & day out. As a matter of fact, this particular Tigress was raised by a pig herself while a cub & this picture was taken back in 2003, so I can only assume that she did NOT make pork chops out of those piglets!!!
I agree with you that...if animals can live in harmony, there is NO reason that the human species could not do the same!!!!

The funny thing is...I remembered seeing this story on the news & I thought they said the tigress had accepted the piglets as her own babies. I did my research to verify what I was getting ready to say & was SHOCKED to find out that it had NOT happened the way the news had portrayed it at all!!!

Hi professor!.
Its sound like Winne the pooh cartoon. I am glad its happen in the reals world but its hard to imaginable if a tiger can not smell the pig aroma.
I think people who fighting with every one is just egoistic person who not wiling to hear and share. they only thing for their own good.

Hi Professor, I think that I've heard about this before, if not it was a similar story. I have also heard of it happening with other animals and it makes me wonder about us. Humans are considered(at least by ourselves) as the highest species in the animal kingdom, why aren't we able to get along better? We can have different opinions but still get along. Blessings.

Hi Professor~ And Happy Diwali to you! It has been proven in
many animal environments that animals who lose their babies
or just some animals in general will nurse animals of another
species as if they were their own. I have see all types of
different species taking care of species you would normally
never think that would be able to exist in a harmoneous
relationship. I have seen dogs nursing kittens, monkeys nursing
kittens and other animals and more! I think that the tigeress
will be happy nursing the little piglets! She is sad because
she lost her own babies and she will probably be happy and
take care of the piglets just like they are her own babies.

dear professor,
a mother tiger who have just given birth would probably accept babies of other animals unknowingly and may take them as her own.. for how long, that i cannot be sure because piglets would surely smell pigs when they get bigger.
but who knows?
this is the first time i have seen something like that in the picture. amazes me!
have a great day.

Wow! If this isn't food for discussion I don't know what is! Maternal instinct is very strong. There are species that eat their young. Human "intelligence" unfortunately isn't all that intelligent. Few understand our purpose in this life is to make humanity better simply because we in it and have the desire to learn to get better at it.
Have a great day!

Because people are just that different from animals. Unlike animals, we are greedy and we want control. Animals are not like that.

Hello Sir,
I have read the news and seen the pictures where piglets enjoyed milk of mother tiger.
They can’t find any tiger cub and finally they tried with piglets by covering the piglets with cloths like tiger. I really surprised to see the same because can’t she understand the babies of piglets? May be she desperately need her kids … anyway still I could not digest the story completely and have many doubts. Now both mother and kids are doing well, it is ok but how long????????

I think that the tiger will become very maternal toward the piglets and for that reason she will never decide to eat her cubs. In fact, if she was allowed to keep them in her cage for the rest of her life, I would think that she would defend them in events that would happen with other Tigers.
I think that in many cases I am much like the Tiger because I am tolerant of all people and I am able to adapt where there is adaptation needed. What I really think is funny about this story is that they wrapped up the piglets.
