Responding to a discussion.

When you want to respond to a discussion which you find interesting, do you go through all the responses which were posted before you, or do you go direct and respond without going through all the other responses. And if you go through all the responses do you usually comment on the responses which were given by the other members?

Hi ramesh, It is impossible to go through all the responses for each and every discussion you want to respond to ! I may read some responses given by my friends just out of curiosity, other than that I just read the discussion and give my views on the subject ! Sometimes some responses may be interesting and may catch ,my eye and I do respond to some comments made by other members most of the time by friends and other members known to me...all the best and have a nice evening

Yes, kiran8, I agree with you, most of our regular members are like you. That is the reason why some interesting discussions, get a good number of responses.

I rarely read other people's responses. I don't have the time.

That is bad bellis716, we are here for having a discussion, so that we can learn a few things, and I feel, we must read a few responses, if not all. This is my personal opinion.

Sometimes I read them and sometimes I browse at them. But I will not read 40 answers so I don´t usually step in those discussions, unless they are made by friends. And about commenting on other responses, it is also spmething that I do sometimes, when I´m interested in giving my opinion. Take care!

When I find a discussion that draws my attention, I read the main question first then I start to read the responses. If I find out that my ideas were already written by other users, I quit responding the discussion. I don't think it's a pleasure for the discussions starter to read the same response again and again. But if I think I have something new to add after I read all the responses, I write a response. Sometimes I feel the need to comment on others responses, and I do this quite often. After all, reading all the responses is a myLot rule written as a don't in the discussion guidelines: "Don't respond to a discussion until you've read all of the responses." http://www.mylot.com/o/guidelines.aspx

I am not very sure that whether all the members are following this rule. For example I have seen some very good discussion, where I felt, I wanted to put my response, at the same time, these discussions might have had more than 30 to 40 responses, and an equal number of comments. So reading all the responses and comments itself will take your full time and you may end up in responding to only a couple of discussions. In the early stages, I usually used to read all the responses and comments, but not now.

I used to do that! To go through previous reponses. But I found that it sometimes clouds my own response. I could get many ideas from the previous responders that the thing I originally wanted to say, gets lost in shuffle. So, I don't anymore. I just go direct and write what I mean. And sometimes even mean what I write!

That is a wonderful answer. Yes at times we forget what we want to say, because it clouds our judgement. Well, we all mean what we write.

Hi ramesshkumaar57, Sometimes I do both ways. There are times I write right away to answer the question without looking at the responses and see how I compare and other times I do read but it does not presuade me write any differntly than what I had planned to write. Thanks and have a great weekend Sincerley Unique16

I don't want others' ideas to influence my ideas so I sometimes go straight to posting my response. I would read others' responses sometimes when the discussion is a bit sensitive. But most of the time I read the discussion thoroughly and post my response respectively.

The first thing is I see the home page and top discussions.I post a response to the discussion if it is really interesting and if I can add something to the discussion and to put across my point of view straight. I feel like I should enjoy typing the response, this comes when you are interested in the discussion and you have something to say. Cheers

Sometimes I just answer the topic directly especially when the responses are lengthy. I don't have much time to look at other peoples' responses. However, If I get the chance to browse through it, I also comment on the others especially if I agree or disagree with the comment.

Im also in the mind set, that if its a discussin im interested in, I dont want to read what other people say before responding because it might influence my orignal thoughts on the particular subject

I read all discussions or comments. You'll never know whats interesting until you read what other people have to say.

Yes I through all the comment, because my english very bad If I just read the discuss I will very difficult to understand the meaning of what its taking about. so i must go though all the comment and find some useful massage and know the discussion clearly then i can answer the question or some time pass by. its very wast of time but I must learn the words that I never met before. I hope one day I can read every thing just by the title and the discussion can answer most of discussing easily.
