Have you heard of Carter's Liver Pills?

I don't know who Carter is and have no idea about his liver pills(!?) Yesterday because of strong winds I was delayed in burning our trash, so today when I went to do so, I thought "I have more trash than Carter has liver pills". It's an old saying! Haven't heard it in sooo long! Yet it still comes to my mind, which I think is kind of funny! Do you know of any old sayings you haven't heard for a while? Did you hear them often? And do any of them still come to your mind?

I couldn't believe it! Someone actually started a discussion about Carter's Liver Pills. I haven't heard of them in a couple of decades I think. I still have a tin in my drawer that had them in it. I put quarters in it for the laundry. How about Circus Peanuts? And I don't mean the actual peanuts but the orange candies we used to get.

I remember those! When I was a kid we used to be able to buy "penny candy" and boy they had some kool candy back then!

Long time no see! I've never heard of the saying about Carter's liver pills. It's definitely new to me! A couple of years ago here on mylot I wrote liar liar pants on fire nose as long as a telephone wire. And a lot of people said they had never heard that last bit, about a telephone wire.

Hi AmbiePam! I can just vaguely remember the second part of "liar liar pants on fire" like I heard it maybe once or possibly twice. But I never would have remembered it without a little help! That's for sure, and never used it myself I'm quite sure. I like having such a vague memory stirred!

I used to work for the Texas Health Dept and have actually SEEN the packaging and some of the old pills. A lot of those old "patent" medicines were actually toxic!

Oh, there's lots of 'em! Happier than a pig in mud--which is strange because they found out that pigs are one of the cleanest animals there are is they are given the choice and environment. Dumber than a box of rocks, useless at t$ts on a boar hog, I haven't seen you since Hector was a pup, colder than a well digger's a$$ (which it is today!). There are many more that I don't remember but my childhood was full of them! I've heard the Carter's one--that comes from the liver pills people used to take back in the 1800's and early 1900's.

Aha! you are reminding me of some.. though I never heard the one about pigs in mud, or dumber than a box of rocks, or the one about hector or the digger, but you've reminded me of one or two.. colder than a witch's t$ts (sorry all pagans or wiccans!) and another one about a goat and the number nine I won't go into..
