I have lived in this capitol city all my life. The population of Idaho as of last year was 1,545,801. Right now we have 9.1% unemployment. That is 687,000 residents without jobs. Employment fell for the fifth month in a row in October. Now my question is if you lived in this state (or anotherfor that matter), was out of work and could not find a job would you move to another state if you got a good offer? That is to say pick up family and all and move?

We no longer have the luxury of wishful thinking any more, so I would absolutely consider it. In fact my boyfriend and I am considering doing so. As I wanted to share with you the statistical numbers are not entirely truthful as they only record the people who are actually receiving unemployment benefits. They do not account for those who did not qualify and or ran out of benefits. So the numbers are much higher.

I am just giving what was available. No way of knowing what the truth of the matter here would be statistically speaking. Thanks for your response.

I did for 35 years pack up and moved but even tho we are at 14% unemployed here we wont move as this is were we want to be of all the places I lived this is the place. WE are so hopeing that the job scene clears up and all get back to work soon and some of the shops that are closed get to open again some shopping areas look like a ghost town.

That would be a pretty tough decision for me to make because I was born and raised in this town. I guess if I didn't have any choice, I probably would. Also, I've lived on this property for about 51 years and there's a lot of history on this property so it would be hard for me to sell it and move to another city or town. I never have liked big cities so it would have to be a small or rural town for me, depending on how the job situation is there. I live alone but my oldest sister and her husband live next door to me. My oldest nephew also lives here.

See I feel as you do. I have been here all my life. It would be tough to leave it all behind. I don't own a home or anything but I have seen this town grow up from afew hundred thousand to a million and a half and have alot of memories. That sounds like a nice situation you have there. Tough to leave.

We had a farm here for years but you wouldn't know it to look at it today because I have so many houses coming up around me now, I hate to say. I inherited the house and the property around it, which includes a pond in the front (actually, it's a lake but we always called it a pond) when mother passed away in 1997. I also keep a horse pastured on this property. I plan to make some pictures of my property and post them on here one of these days.

In a heart beat! If it was a great offer then why not? I would not like to wait for the economics of the state to improve. I'll move and find it. Granted that it will be a bit difficult for the kids with the move, and settling down, and finding new friends. But I'm sure they'd rather have that than the difficulty of not having anything because of me having no job.

I think I would! But I rather enjoy moving into a new place.. even though I've been living here for 30+ years and in this house for 23 years.. OR, maybe I wouldn't as I would miss all my friends and family nearby..!

hi celticeagle we have really thought about moving but that takes a jeck of a lot of money. I think if my son found another good job out of California I would insist he ask them to pay the moving expenses . as an umemployed person for a long time has no money to fall back on when it comes to moving. the unemployment rate here in California is even higher and I learned a few days ago my son who did finally get a job that was only part time, has now been cut back to one day a week.So he has to hunt for another job. we were living together, my son and I until he wa laid off, disaster as we got behind in the rent, and were evic ted. homeless now I am stuck here in this retirement center and he is in govl sponsored housing for single men. not a happy situation but beats living on the damned streets. so if we had the funds to move and a great job offer yes we sure would nmove.

I think that it really depends on the situation. If i were given the chance to choose between a decent job in my city and a better job somewhere else i would quite certainly keep the decent job in my city. After all money is not everything in life.. there are a lot of things that i care about where i live and it would certainly cost me a lot to give them up. But if the choice is between not having a job and being unable to survive i would accept the job in another place and move. (certainly with the hope to eventually come back when the times are better). In a few words it really depends on your quality of life before accepting the job offer. If you have enough to fulfill all your basic needs of food and shelter there is no point in leaving a place that you love and all the people that you care about just to have more THINGS. But if your conditions are not enough to live decently it could certainly be necessary sacrifice to do. Btw i live in rome italy, and as you can imagine even if this city has its problems, it is impossible not to have a strong relationship with the City!

Yeah, I would definitely moved to another city or state if I have a good offer from them, as I know the situation of my state or city. You are talking about a city or state, we have moved from our country just for having a good offer, I know I have opportunities in my country but I know this too that I can get more good opportunities over here, so for me, I would definitely move from my state if even I am on job and get some really very good offer...:) Have a nice weekend...:)

If it is a really a great offer why not? If the offer can cover monthly expenses for the whole family including food, shelter and with a little savings left over means better move on friend. Happy working.
