Why do Love Songs Bring Back Good and Bad Memories?

I don't understand why everytime I hear love songs especially from the 80's, I get to be sentimental about it. I sometimes laugh, be giddy, or sob a tear. Probably because these love songs have been for such instance, been part of the experiences I have had in my life, maybe during the times when I was heartbroken and sad, victorious and elated, and even in moments of sorrow and disappointments. But I like really to listen to this kind of music, but as always, I get too emotional and sentimental, but still, I like that very mood. Has this ever happen to you?

Definitely yes. it happened to me a lot of times. Love songs are the type of music that i really love. It makes me relax at night or even when I'm so tired of doing things and tired of thinking things. I think these love songs affect us not primarily because of its tune or lyrics but because of the persons we think of whenever we hear these songs. Persons like or parents, friends or even persons that we don't like.. The person that made us feel so happy, sad, excited, frustrated, broken, and the like... These persons is the primary reason why love songs affect us a lot.. Secondary reason to person I think is the experiences that we had with the persons that make this songs so meaningful and memorable to us... experiences that we will carry for long and to be remembered. Thirdly is the song's lyrics and tune.. whenever we heard th tune and understand its lyrics we tend to remember it all over because we just simply love it.

Exactly, it brings back to old times that can be happy or sad memories. Songs gave way to the revival of our past experiences.

I think we like it because it feels good to release the pain/happiness/nostalgia by being sentimental and emotional. And you feel a connection with the person who's speaking/singing and can relate to the things that's happened to you.

Yes, songs evoke a lot of memories, and they're a mix of good and not-so good memories. If you're really into music, you often associate a person, an event, an occassion, an emotion with a particular music. That's why we hear the phrase 'the soundtrack of our lives'. It's not limited to love songs only. Any type of music, we can associate it with something or someone.

For me,some songs became a part of my life to remember something and/or someone. And when I hear that certain song, some of them makes me smile, while some makes me cry. Even though it makes me cry,I still cherish those songs for it reminds me of my past and my mistakes. To help me think of not to do those again. ^_^

Simply because you related yourself to the song that's why you became emotional and remembered different memories. :)

Yeah, I think most of the people do, ^_^! Listening to songs awakens different emotions in me, I usually listen to the cheerful one to relieve stress and makes me happy. Good songs can also boost my energy and uplift my spirit especially when I'm tired or in a depressed mode.. ^_^ Enjoy listening! ^_^
