It is now my third week of Physical Therapy since my latest knee replacement. Last week my Physical Therapist measured my range of motion and was duly impressed. I really am glad that I have had these surgeries so early in my life. Most folks wait till in their 60s or even 70s before replacing any joints. I credit my good recovery to my relatively young age (52 and 53). Originally I was glad to get them done early for practical reasons. I figured if I'm going to do it, I want to get as much use out of the new knee as possible. But now I have another reason to be glad to have them done so early in life. The older you get, the less able to bounce back your body is. Have any of you, my fellow mylotters, had orthopedic surgery? What were your experiences? Are you glad you had it?

Well, not a knee or hip or the like replaced, but my rotator cuff was operated on in 2005. I have to say that because of the fibro I'm a slow healer, but it was pretty painful before having it done and while I still have a few problems, they are NOTHING like I was having before.

I agree, it is a royal pain in EVERY part of my body, with the possible exception for those nether regions...

LOL...well, in my case at least, those nether regions are not exempt. I get that all-in feeling and the entire bod is one big ache.

Boy, I hear you loud and clear on the fibro! With this knee more than the other I have had a lot of general aches and pain and I attribute that to my fibro. It is a royal pain in the #$%^&^%$, is it not?

I had knee surgery back in May - lateral release, removal of material to avoid arthritis, alignment of my knee cap. I moved through physical therapy pretty quick. The therapist was pleased but not my Dr lol I'm still not back to 100% even with all of the exercises I have to do. I have full ROM in both knees, but my right knee is still weaker than my left.

Wow. That is amazing. I have had both knees done as total joint replacements. But it does take a while to get the strength back. Give yourself at least a year from surgery before expecting to be back to normal. I know that others I've talked to have said it took two years before their new knees felt like knees again. You don't mention your age? Hope you continue to get stronger over the next few months. Take care.

Thanks. I'm 32, but I decided to have it done because this started from knee pain from an injury that I had when I was 15. Its bothered me on and off for years and after having my daughter in February the pain flared up and would not subside. Bad knees run in my family, so I figured why not get it done now while we have good health insurance and then it is out of the way.

Good for you. Yes, having children really makes the old bod deteriorate at a much quicker pace, doesn't it?
