fellow mylotters, we have what we call father’s day, mother’s day, but I have not really been so keen and observant. is there something that is called children’s day? what I know is the celebration of Christmas day, in commemoration of the day the Lord Jesus was born, because that day, aside from thinking of the Lord's day is also a very enjoyable day for children. in fact, it is more concentrated on how to make them happy. in India, I learned that there is a children's day celebration. it is the birthday of Jawaharlal Nehue. is there such a day in a year that you celebrate in your country? please do share. ann

Hi Anny dear The universal children's day is 20th november, but for us in india it is tomorrow 14th november every year, it is the birthday of late Jawaharlal Neheru, the first prime minister of india, he was very fond of children, children called him, 'Chacha Neheru', means uncle Neheru.. Let me tell you of a sad experience, last year i was invited to a school on this occassion, i asked the children there, who is Jawaharlal Neheru, why you observe this day? LOL only one little girl could answer correctly!! Thank you so much for this discussion and telling about festivals in Philippines. Professor. . Cheers God bless you. Welcome always.

hi professor, honestly, i thought at first that the name that was mentioned was one god or a goddess. i was thinking in my mind and imagining pictures of little blue skinned babies. i see them most of the time in picture comments. i am glad thought that i didnt assume that i was right there. so what i did, i seach for the name. that is where in learned that it was the name of an ex prime minister. we dont celebrate children's day.. or if there is, maybe it is not that popular. when i think of children's day, i think of Christmas - December 25 have a nice day. ann

Here we have a Children's Day dated on June 1st. It is an important day here and children will have a day off and will receive gifts from parents and relatives. The bad thing is that not all the parents will have a day off and enjoy this special day with their children because they have to go to work. I wish one day that parents can have a day off official and therefore we can really have a good time with our children. I love China

hello youless, your wish should come to reality. of course children's day needs their parents beside them hence the day should be a holiday so that parents can be with their children.. i would not mind being home during that day and enjoying bonding with my kids if i were u, too. have a nice day. ann

I'm not real sure. I know there is also a grandparents day sometime in September but it's not as popular by far as mother and fathers day.

I'm not aware of there being a Children's Day here in the United States. However, I do try to celebrate both my children and children in general as often as I possibly can. The reason for that is because of the fact that my children are so important to me. In addition to that, I love to celebrate children because they are really the only people in this world that I would consider to be innocent. Adults don't seem to have that magical nature about them.

We don't have a Children's Day as far as I'm aware. I remember one Mother's Day my son (at around 5 years old) asking why there was no Children's Day - my answerr was that EVERYDAY was children's day!!

That was exactly what my parents told me! Children are pampered every day in North America -- that's why we need mothers' day and fathers' day!

Hi tigeraunt, Yes, Indians are celebrating Children’s Day on November 14 i.e., tomorrow. November 14 is the birthday of Jawaharlal Nehru, the former (and first) Prime Minister of India. He loved children very much so his birthday is celebrating as Children’s Day. The Universal Children’s Day is November 20 but in India we are celebrating on November 14 as paying homage to our great leader who loved the children the most.

Christmas! Mom's especially make sure every holiday in the US is about the children. Retail stores know this. Everything is commercialized here. Even our dollar stores carry all the inexpensive stuff to give to and celebrate with our children. Because of all the commercialization I think a national children's day would be overkill, at least in the states. If people could contain themselves here I think it could be a beautiful day! But here people would say, "Oh, Childrens Day, gotta buy something!"
