Do I Really Need a Compass to Decide Which Direction I Sleep?

Today some Consultant visited us. He had come for a different purpose tough but after looking around the house and its construction advised us to make certain changes. I realized that this guy was a Vaastu Consultant too. He told us many factors and changes that could bring us better wealth and health. Most essential he told us that we must change our direction during sleeping and keep our heads toward the South. Personally I am not into all this but it seems that my wife has taken up the thoughts and recommendations seriously. What is your Opinion about Vaastu and Do the Directions Theory really matter/work? Cheers, theSids.

Hello thesids, If you believe all those then you have to follow them otherwise you can ignore those and won’t be anything bad thing happen to you. It all depends upon our beliefs. They have their own logics for their arguments. Since childhood I have taught that keep the head in south position which is good. Otherwise keep head in the East position. It means you can’t sleep in north and west position. In village I have followed the same now I am in a city, to be very frank, sometimes I can’t understand the south, north, east and west here and I hardly think about all these while sleeping. You are right; in this case I also need a Compass. Congrats for your blue star.

Hi Sreekala, Thanks for sharing your opinions here and congratulating me on the Blue Star... I noticed that only after reading the response. Yes, we too (both of us) had been told to keep the head in the east and that is what we were doing until that consultant confused us. Actually after searching the internet we have realized that we should not change as per what the Consultant mentioned. And yes, there are times and places where you do need a compass to find the direction. Cheers, theSids.

I don't understand what VAASTU is. ( Iam a christian) But I know most of Hindu triditions have scientific facts in them. keeping our head towards north is not so good for our health because of these magnet waves. I realize this many time i my own life. I am so sure about this. I prefer to keep my head towards east while sleeping. In Sri Lanka most of the people do so. That means opposite direction of the magnetive waves. keeping towards South is new to me. And by the way knowing the direction is very simple. Face the morning son; your left hand side is north. have a nice day.

Hi John, Thanks for your inputs here. I understand and agree with the Magnetic waves you mention. We were sleeping with heads in the east direction but this guy has added too many confusions for us now. Especially after searching the Internet for the directions thing, we have got different opinions and are much confused now. We slept with our heads in east because that way (we were told in childhood days) not get up looking directly into the Sun. Instead it would be something like paying our Namaskar(sorry, I could not get the word for this in English and so if you understand it is good and if you dont... I am unable to help at the moment) to sun when we get up and had been following that since. Cheers, theSids.

Ok, I found the equivalent of Namaskar - it means Salutation

Don't worry. I know what namaskar is. I used to watch veriety of Indian films. Don't confuse yourself. Read old Hindu books. Though I am a christian I used to read veriety about Hindu books when i was in Sri Lanka. Specialy about Rishis. Now I don't know the English word. Some time viji can help us. @vigi: I am speaking about munivarkaL, Thuravikal. Now I have forgotten their particular names. I hope what they say is perfectly correct.

LOL thats funny. Do these Vaastu Consultants walk around door to door guiding people to sleep with their head toward the south? This sounds very weird. I guess I am sleeping in the proper way but I dont believe it matters. My bed is positioned this way so the sun wont shine in our eyes when we are trying to sleep.

Hi Shaggin, No, they dont do this for free and none of them walks around door to door though some of them send out Text Messages on the cell. This particular guy had been here to ask fr a quotation for developing his website and after the discussion, he had a look around at my place. I work as a freelance web programmer and developer. Now, after he had left, my wife came up with the idea of changing the directions as he had recommended... I dont believe in such things. There was a kind of an argument and I put up the matter here. Based on the initial responses, I searched the Internet and we found that this guy really has no idea of what he is talking about. Though a few of his things were common across various sites, the issue of sleeping direction have been varying from site to site and that added to more confusions. I know I dont care anything about directions when it comes to a baby's sleep and can even sleep with my head on this table I use for my Desktop. Cheers, theSids.

I guess what you're talking about is Feng Shui, which is what is known in chinese. It basically means geomancy, which involves some kind of advanced fortune-telling by some suit-wearing or traditional chinese suit-wearing consultants. They just tell us about our wealth and our life, what type of colours matches us, what numbers so on and so forth. I do believe in it and so does my mother that's why when we moved house or wanted to make some changes to the house like painting the door, we would ask the consultant over. Yea I think, for you, if you want your overall wellbeing to be good, you should heed the consultant's advice.

Hi Ruby, You speak the words from my wife! She would be happy to see this one on the post here :). Yes, we have been unlucky as things are just not happening to fall at the right places this moment. This adds up for our desperate efforts to bring about some changes for the better and in this desperation I think she is justified in doing about these changes here for a test. Thanks for sharing your opinion and it was good to know your views from this aspect. Helped me to look from another angle and understand better. Cheers, theSids.

Hello thesids, I know about some of the customs of my Hindu friends and what they say about this vaastu. I have heard about the sleeping position and all but, even most of my friends don't believe in such stuffs. I don't understand why things would be better if slept facing a particular direction, to me this is all superstitious and if my wife(future wife, lol) would take this seriously, i don't know how i react to it. I just don't want here believing in such stuffs. Anyways, try to talk it out with your wife if you find it weird, and settle the matter. Anyways, nothing is going to change, no matter where you face and sleep.

Hi Voldrox, I must appreciate your opinion here - try to talk it out with your wife if you find it weird, and settle the matter. Anyways, nothing is going to change, no matter where you face and sleep. This morning some of the minor changes have been implemented like my computer and study table has been shifted so that I face east while working and a few in the kitchen. For the bed I believe we are going to stick to our current position. We hope that if there are any better results from the small shifts/changes we have made, we might consider the other bigger ones. Personally - I do not believe in this theory too. Cheers, theSids.

I think this is some kind of superstition-you can sleep with your head anywhere and still enjoy your sleep! You dont have to make the business of sleeping so academic!

Hi academic, Thanks for sharing your opinion here. I must admit that sleeping is not the only factor for my starting this discussion but yes, this is one of the major issues here. Here is why - we have a small bedroom and it was quite difficult to get the bed placed as it is now. After the visit of the Consultant, my wife needs to change the directions of the bed and it is going to be only both of us... I can see that happen in the next one or two days... As for me, I can even fall asleep right keeping me head here on the table where I am working now and I would be comfortable. Cheers, theSids.

I don't believe too much in anything may it be astrology, numerology or vaastu etc...what i think is that when people are in any problem, then only they find themselves getting in all these things or else if everything is fine no one cares... though i don't believe too much ...but out of curiosity and just for knowledge i keep reading somethings when i have time...and what u have said here...that heads to the south direction while sleeping....i totally disagree with this thing...as according to hindu dharma...when someone is dying...means if he doctors have given their negative replies and there are no hopes for that person to survive then the person is laid down on the earth with his head towards south direction for easier 'Mukti' ...so i don't think that the advice of that person was right...anyway i have mentioned only what i have heard ..i am not master in this subject...so u may consider my opinion as neutral...

Well. Vaastu things are believed to be bringing changes, but I believe that if our mind is filled with positive things, it is the only thing that brings changes. Or we can say, vaastu works when we are positive. Generally, North and South can influence the blood flow in our brains, due the magnetic waves. That's why, I've heard that it is not good to sleep facing North or South. Vaasthu and other things have been imposed just to develop a personal discipline in ourselves and nothing else. Personally disciplined, we will be more positive and that's enough to bring the changes we wish. Just my opinion.

Hi Venkat, I agree with you 100% and you speak my words here - "Personally disciplined, we will be more positive and that's enough to bring the changes we wish". Thats what I believe in and this is why I do not believe in the Vastu and Fengshui things... But some people just want to try the things out(like my wife) and I believe that in a day or two, most of the things would change their positions in our place... I wish she could understand the easy way. Thanks for sharing your views and especially speaking me out :) Cheers, theSids.

I guess this Vaastu is like Fengshui thing of China. Many believe in this tradition of building the house especially the Chinese people...which some says improves their living condition, health, business and others but for me I think it depend on the individual if you want something you should aim for it to get what you wish to have...

It depend on how much you believe into that, Vaastu just like the Feng Sui in Chinese. They both believe that some position or where you stay will affect you, you health, your wealth, you relationship and many more. I am not too sure about Vaastu, but in Feng Sui, it also believe that in which direction you sleep will affect your health or your future. And some are logic like it not encourage you to put a big mirror in front of your bed, that will bring you bad luck, but if you think it logically, you might get frighten when you wake up and seeing someone who are in a mess (when you wake up, your will definitely look bad). So there are some logic about the believe.

I have yet to know one person who find the secret to wealth, happiness and health using the placement of stuff throughout their home. The power of possitive thinking is however something that works!

Hi, It depends on personal beliefs.vaastu is actually made for better lighting and ventilation as per the ancient times based on those days environment and geographical aspects. There is nothing wrong in following while you construct your house or office,But do not expect something great out of it like a windfall of money etc. People living in perfect vaasthu based construction lead a healthy life, compared to others. This is my personal experience,I am not a master in it.But what I said is based on my experience only. Good day
