Do you think there should be an alternative to "LOL"?

November 15, 2010 2:42pm CST
I am rarely actually laughing out loud when I type "LOL" yet it means laugh out loud. Do you think we should even bother trying to come up with more accurate acronym? I would like to and often do try, but they simply don't catch on. Like "CQTS" which means "Chuckles Quietly To Self" or "LOTI" which would mean "Laughing On The Inside" you get the idea. Does this bother anyone else sometimes?

Hahah! Well, believe it or not, to this day, I've NEVER typed LOL when I wanted to express my laughter.. I always write 'HAHA'. When, it's more of a softer laugh, I'd write hehe. or Buahah/muahah for when I'm really laughing. But even more so lately, I feel like these are becoming inappropriate because I'm having a sense that LOL sounds more proper and 'clean'.

You don't sense that it's more proper? not necessarily positive, but more appropriate. I don't know why, maybe it's because I see everyone else doing it and 'hahah' is more like sound effects rather than words. Yes, I've seen people write "I just lol'd".

In what way does LOL sound more proper and clean? I do the "Bwahahaha" thing when something is very funny as well, but I get the sense that it would sound too much like maniacle laughter in real life, like a mad scientist. Have you ever seen some one type, "I just lol'd."? or "I just lol'd in my pants a little."?

That is exactly how I use them when I use the acronyms. Since my cellphone has a memory it comes up instantly.

Do you use them according to how funny it is? ha= simply acknowledging a joke HA!= actually finding it funny in a surprising way hahaha= equivalent of "lol" HAHAHAHAHA!!!= equivalent of "LMAO"

I like your LOTI... I may start using that SANK... Smiling and nodding knowingly? HAG... Hysterical and giggling? MABY... Mildly amused by you? YANAFAYT... You are not as funny as you think??

What do you think is the best acronym after reading the following line? Don't you hate it when you wipe your asse for 10 straight minutes and there's always that last stain that doesn't go away? When I did.. SAAC - snickering at a corner

A comedian made me think of this, He was talking about how ridiculous texting is. He said something like, "Can you imagine how insane our world would be if we actually talked the way was texted? 'Oh em gee! I totally just saw this chick fall off her bar stool! HAHAHAHA!!' can you see how manic you would sound?" I don't hate it but I do think about it often =P

I've hard of LOTI. It just doesn't seem to be anywhere near as popular as LOL. In place of it, I sometimes say "Haha", which for some reason seems lesser than LOL But I think by now people have accepted the fact that LOL doesn't necessarily mean someone is laughing out loud, but that the person is amused.
