Hi punkgurl
lol , kids these days have little physical activity, they get up do home work given by teacher, go school by bus, in school they sit, come home by bus, watch tv etc, so no exercises of the limbs.. about food they eat chocolates, fast food etc etc . So lack of physical activity and fast food leads to obesity..
The parents must stop giving fast food to them, see they should do some kind of exercise regularly
Thank you so much for timely discussion.
Professor ‘Bhuwan’. .
God bless you.
Welcome always.

My brothers went from fat to thin. I think it's natural for kids to be fat. When they grow up they'll eventually get thinner. I'm not talking about those overly obese kids. Those definitely need help. They should at least consider jogging or biking every morning.

Good observation, I think that America and most of Canada has really let their children get obease.A lot of parents do not even attempt to feed their children healthy and they just feed them junk food not caring about the consequenses. It is estimated that one in four are obese in North America and this is very alarming. If their is not a change soon i feel that the next generation is going to die early and not going to be physically fit to do a lot of the required jobs like essential services and many of the emergincy services positions like firefighters or police offices.Hope someting is done about this soon!

What should be done is to create awareness on what complications will they have if they are overweight. Show them pictures of healthy kids and overweight kids. Ask them what they prefer. Doing so will give them choice. To be healthy or not. Motivate them on eating the right food. If the school is not offering healthy food prepare healthy foods for them and talked with the school official about your view on their food.If being obese is hereditary, consult your dietitian or doctor on what measure should be done. Avoid treating them to fast food as much as possible. Create a family day every weekend. Like going to the park, swimming, hiking, riding a bike, playing soccer or any other physical activity, but don't ever push hard. Don,t oblige them to lose weight just guide them along the way.

Although sometimes overweight children is a result of genetics. I still think that as parents we need to contribute to better eating habits and regular exercising.
One thing many parents with the genetically overweight children need to remember is that we as parents will not be there forever for our children, which thus will result in many problems for the child as they are adults. So beginning them on the right path of great eating habits is a major deal that as parents we have to do.

in my opinion, regular exercise & changed food habits is the only answer to this problem..

Obesity is a definite problem in America and I agree that a lot must be done to combat it. It's true that some people are genetically predisposed to be overweight, but I don't like to see that as an excuse. As long as people become dedicated to getting some activity every day and staying away from eating a lot of processed foods or foods with additives, it's really not so hard to combat obesity. Children should be active, and PE programs should be effect in school to keep them that way. Also, along with PE, we should educate young children in school about how important it is to eat well and live life actively. If we can reach them at this great age, it will make it easier for them to keep fit later in life.
