Last evening I attended a seminar on waist pain management in my city. It was organized by my classmate; she retired in 2006 as Director of health. It was attended by housewives of various age groups. Three were 80+, they said they never had waist pain, as per them it was due to following.
They used to sweep the floor using brooms, not vacuum cleaners,
clean the floor manually using cloth dipped in phenyl or just plain water. For grinding wheat, rice or spices, never used electrically operated mixer-grinder, but the traditional grinding stone, see picture. There are other kinds too.
This involves movement of waist, a good exercise, and so no waist pain.
In your home, do you use food processer, grinder-mixer? Have you ever used stone grinders?
Do ladies in your home suffer from waist pain?

Till I leave my home country we use these things. those days we got a law electricity bills also. really i love those tools. but as i live in Germany I can't use them. When I was a young girl i was told that we will get a beautiful figure when using these tools. So i happily used them. Now I am leading a lazy life. But thanks God. I don't have waist pain.

Professor thank goodness I have never experienced waist pain but hip pain and knee pain as I have arthritis in both areas. Ihave never used a stone grinder but I have a mortar and pestled, a small bowl with a pestle that I grind up herbs for cooking. My hubby gave me that for Christmas one year and its great for pulverizing something. I do a lot of stretching, side stretches
and such at my desk here so I will not get waist pain.I still was sweeping the floor with a broom before I came here, I have never had waist pain. I know some good exercises to make your waist agile and painfree.

I have to admit that I've honestly never used any of the older methods of getting things done around the house. I really couldn't imagine what it would be like to have to go through all of the tasks in my house without modern conveniences. When it comes to pain that I've experienced, the only reason for any pain that I've ever been through is because of an injury that I incurred at work several years ago.

I've never asked my mom that. I don't feel pain on my waist unless someone punches it. Great tips though. It's good to be aware of such things.

I don't have waist pains but my thoughts jumped to what a friend observed about household work that are forms of exercises. House work, like sweeping and scrubbing of floors or manually cleaning dirt on floors. Things done with less electronic gadget where with one push of the button, you get things done.
Anyway, she observed that pregnancies then were normal but now with all the gadgets and less movement because of the buttons, pregnancies end up ceasarian cases.
I also read somewhere that scrubbing and sweeping of floors are really forms of exercises one can do at home, if not done to excess, I suppose. These help prevent waist pains and others. I sweep floors at home though I don't scrub. I tire easily.
I don't have waist pains....YET!

Hi Professor!.
I still had stone grinder at home but we rarely used it because we have the electric one. Sometimes when we really in hurry its not good idea to use traditional grinder because its will be waste to much time, so I prefer use the electric one.
I find its really tired to use traditional grinder especially when grinding so many spices and herb at one time.
