Biological Clock: When Does it Usually Start Ticking?

I'm only in my mid-20s, but I think my biological clock is already ticking. I LOVE children (and I didn't always). I enjoy playing with them and holding them and taking care of them. And now I've begin fantasizing about having a baby of my own. A part of me really wants a kid. Then again, maybe this dreaming of kids might be stemming from a bit on envy. Most of my cousins have children and the people I spend time with are mothers. I look at them with their kids and I want one, even with the headaches and craziness involved. Despite my fantasizing, I'm not going to get pregnant just to satisfy my dreams. I still want to be more stable (financially and personally) and married to my boyfriend before I bring a child into this world. That's just my personal preference. Am I wanting a kid because I'm envious, or am I envious because I want a kid? When do you think biological clocks start ticking?

There's really no such thing as a biological clock, it's just something people say when they know they're running out of time to have a child. There is absolutely no reason to rush into having kids. If you haven't had a child by your mid-30's.. then you can start worrying about it, but mid-20's is still young. Take it from me, I had my first child in my late teens and my last child in my late 20's.. I had so much more patience in my late 20's that I wished I had waited till then to have my first!

It may be different for every individual. For most though, I'd say mid 30's to early forties. Wanting a child isn't a bad thing. Try not to be envious, it's a bad feeling. Just enjoy the kids when you get to be around them.

I think that medically the best time to have a baby is from 24 to 29 years old. Then it is best to have a second child when you are aged 30 to 34 years old. After age 35 years old the biological clock is ticking away. By age 40 then then it isn't easy to have a baby. One of my friends waited until the last minute and had her daughter when she was 39 years old and her son when she was 40 years old. I had my teenage son when I was 22 years old, my disabled toddler son when I was 34 years old and my baby daughter when I was 36 years old. A lady in her twenties is active for her children. It is wise to be in a stable background and then get pregnant.

of course it ticks my dear, but don't worry, just have the time of your life to enjoy being single and be stable first before planning to start a family. Don't force yourself just because most of your friends are married and have kids. You can also have kids on your own once you are decided to settle down. But since you already said you still need to be stable on your career and save money, then go for it and help your parents and family first. You can settle down if you and your bf are ready to face another challenge of life.
