dear mylot members,
i learned that there is a wireless keyboard (and probably a mouse too). i find it fascinating and amazing, but i find myself getting too old to cope with new technologies. probably its because i didnt really have a formal education on these things. all my knowledge are all based on actual use and work. i always wanted to but i guess i just very less time to do it.
i wonder though what is the purpose of wireless keyboards.
to my mind, a wireless head phone and microphone is more advantageous. that way you can still talk and communicate even if u are away from the monitor by a few meters. to me that would be very helpful because i will be able to cook and chat at the same time even if away from the monitor/pc.
can you state the advantage of wireless keyboard? please share.

There is not so much diference at all. They work exactly the same, with the only diference of not being physically attached. The adventage I can see is the freedoom to move far from computer and still being able to type, as log as you're in range of the receiver and can see the screen.
I see more convenient a wireless mouse instead. As we move the mouse everytime, being free from the power cord makes it very easy to use, to not worring about the wire mixing with others and blocking the movement.
The obious downside is that both request batteries to work and are more expensive.

my hubby have a wireless keyboard and mouse, but not me... to me, they do not have any differences at all compare to the wired ones... the only difference is you can bring them around... that's all... in terms of functions, they are completely the same... take care and have a nice day...

Hi Ann. I have never used a wireless keyboard, but I used to use a wireless mouse. I thought it was good as I could move it all over the desk without worrying about the wire getting tangled and messing up the desk.
I stopped using it though as I became concerned about the Electro Magnetic Frequencies that are related to using wireless devices. Laptops are really bad for EMF's as well, so I do not like using them either. Mobile phones are too. I try to avoid wireless devices now and have an ear piece for my mobile phone which cuts out the EMF's.

hi rawbill,
i would prefer my mouse to have the wire, i guess. it is so small i might misplace it. unlike the cellphone, i cant find it as easily as the cellphone when lost. in a cellphone, you will just have to ring it and hurray! you will easily find it if it is just within your house.
have a nice day. bless you.

I've been a user of a wireless keyboard and mouse for many years and I can think of many advantages to using the wireless peripherals and only one disadvantage to having a wireless keyboard. The disadvantage that there is to having a wireless keyboard is that there are times that the batteries die at the most inopportune times. The advantages, however, are that you are more portable with using your keyboard and mouse. You really don't have to be sitting right in front of the computer to use it.

My husband has one handy wireless key board and wireless mouse, one unit like pendrive is pushed in to the pc or laptop, this connents them together..
i have worked with it, find it convenient ..
i think you should buy this and enjoy working sitting on your bed, but one need to buy a high power unit, that should have higher range..

hi kal,
i guess that would really be very convenient.
is the battery being charged or is that the type where you need to keep buying when it is already slow?
thank you so much for your responses. God bless and you are very welcome in my lot.

hi tigeraunt.
I really am not good at adjusting to these newer things either. At work we have a wireless keyboard which I have only used once. I really didn't see it to be any different than a regular one. Maybe just one less thing to plug in?? I am right now borrowing my daughter's laptop as my desktop is being repaired. She has a wireless mouse which I just found annoying and it slowed me down. Unable to muster the patience to get used to it, I just plugged in the mouse from my computer and things are speeding up. Hopefully I'll have my own computer back by tonite!

hello sid,
guess we have this same problem at adjusting to new things.
although i know these things have its own purpose, i tend to cling to the old type which has through the years been giving me the convenience to move/work around faster. these new things i will learn too, little by little just like my newly issued touch screen cellphone. it makes me crazy! em]evilgrin[/em]
cheers,

Hi Ann,
There is nothing so great about it. Although it has been thriving in the market for a couple of years now it wasn't a consumer hit. It is just a scientific advancement from the regular wired keyboard and mouse. I believe that it has got nothing to do with your age or you not being that Tech-savvy. Even the hardcore programmers aren't aware of all the technological developments apart from their area of expertise.
Yes, i agree with you that a wireless headphone would be better, but then you have bluetooth deviices for phone so that you can talk and hands are free, and i-pods for music. So....

If you have a good eye sight, you can probably move back to some 10-20 feet backwards and lie on your couch or something with your wireless keyboard/mouse and type/play/sleep with that :D
btw, wires make a lot of mess and dust around your computer. So, its better to opt for a wireless mouse n keyboard n 5.1 speakers if necessary :)
Happy MyLotting!!

hi sherwin,
the thought of staying a few feet away from the monitor and placing the the keyboard on the lap while i rest my back with a few pillows there on the couch is very appealing.
true that wires accommodate dust and i hate looking at them like baby snakes at the back of the pc.
but as you said, i need to have a good eye sight. i guess this needs a new setting of font again.
have a great day.

Hey tiger!
I have never had formal education on how to work with the computer. Through experience and just making mistakes I learned a lot. Your question is a very interesting one. I do have a wireless mouse because I found the wire to be annoying. My keyboard is still one with a wire because it does not annoy me that much as the mouse wire.
If you're happy with your wired keyboard and mouse you can just keep them. There's no real need for them to be wireless!

A wireless mouse has no cord that has to be dragged around with it. A wireless keyboard? Well, have you ever wanted to put your feet up and put the keyboard in your lap? You can do that. They both take batteries, which have to be replaced periodically. Also, with a wireless keyboard, there are no indicator lights for number lock and caps lock. Keeping those lights on would eat batteries a lot faster. Other than that, I like wireless a lot.
