Doesn't soup sound wonderful when it's cold? I enjoy all kinds of soups. Earlier tonight I had shrimp bisque with a French roll. I also like homemade vegetable soup, broccoli soup, and especially tomato soup. How about you? Do you enjoy soup when it gets colder? What kind do you like to eat or make? Do you do anything special to it? And, what do you like to eat with it (like grilled cheese and tomato soup, etc.)?

I have not had shrimp bisque, but I would probably like it. We have had potato soup with ham, and then beans with ham this last week. That was to use up the rest of the Christmas ham. I like canned soups okay as well. I really like chili, and we had that this week as well.

Hi jerz! How ya been girlfriend? I must admit that I am not much of a soup person. But, when the weather is cold out, I am ready for something hot all the time! I have to admit, as big a cook as I am I have nevermade homemade soup! I buy Progresso and stuff like that, but I am just not a soup maker! I prefer to make a nice homemade pot of beef stew, baked lasagna, nice roast beef dinner! I will do anything to keep that oven on! It's also weather for doing alot of baking! I should have lost the weight that I gained this Summer while I was on vacation in Florida visiting with my Mom! I made a cake for the bf's birthday which was the day before Thanksgiving and he has only had one piece and the cake is almost gone! He told me to leave him one piece for tonight and I said, "Don't worry I'll bake another one"!

Hey jerz! Welcome back and congrats on the new computer! We got another 9 or so inches last night too. Not too thrilled either and yes, it is definitely soup, stew, baking and all that kind of weather again! I was going to bake a cake today, but just got too lazy and didn't hardly get out of bed! That's one of the "fun" things about "snow days"! My bf couldn't get to work because the college he works in (cafeteria)was closed and the busses weren't running so we both decided to do some extra sleeping! Maybe tomorrow I'll bake that cake while he's at work!

If I did not have to feed other people as well, I would just live on hearty soups, mostly by themselves. Our favorite right now is made from butternut squash, and it has ginger and chestnuts in it. You top it with a tablespoon of crumbled blue cheese and a tablespoon of chopped pecans. Yummy. It is so very nutritious it just makes me feel good all over.

My mother made the best vegetable soup. She'd always make a couple gallons of it so she could give quarts of it away. I'd probably make soup more often if my kids ate it when I did, but I've made soup twice since August and no one would touch it but me. My mother loved soup, but she also had to have her beef, so she could have lived on both of those with plenty of good crusty bread! LOL

We just had tomato soup and grilled cheese a few days ago for lunch. I do enjoy soup when it is cold and although my husband is not a fan of soup, he will eat it for me. I also like vegetable soup and broccoli and cheese soup. I need to find some new recipes and make some new soups.

When it gets cold, I definitely feel more like soup and other one pot meals like stews, chili and my mother's pot pie (which is NOT a pie at all). Now, THAT I have and can eat old, right out of the fridge!!

U got that right, nothing better than a good bowl of homemade soup. The only thing i ever have w/it is cornbread. It fills me up pretty good. I even make it in the summer i like it so much but more in the winter of course.

I don't make soup often because nobody by me eats it, but I like either thick soup or soup that's totally full of veggies, meat and pasta. My newest favorite soup is seafood, crab, shrimp or lobster bisque. In close second to that is cream of tomato or tomato basil. Then I also like Avgolemono soup - like a Greek cream of chicken, but no cream (which blows my mind because it sure looks like it!)

That's interesting because I seem to see more of them during the summer (like fried squash and fried eggplant). But, what you grow up with plays a strong part in what you look forward to.

Soup does sound pretty good. We had grilled cheese and tomato soup not too long ago. I bought ingredients to make homemade broccoli cheese soup too. I haven't made it yet though. I was thinking about making it soon. I love homemade chicken noodle soup. My mom makes it and it is really good. I haven't tried to make it myself yet but I'd like to soon. I got a recipe from a cookbook for it.

I made a decent chicken and bowtie soup a couple months ago, but I was the only one willing to eat it. It wasn't bad and was my first attempt at any kind of chicken soup. I make a pretty decent vegetable soup with hamburger (my mother always used stew meat, but I hate those big pieces of meat in soup). I'm longing to try making a cheese soup. I also made a tomato soup one time for my mother using canned tomatoes, milk and seasonings when we ran out of canned soup. It wasn't bad at all, but next time I'd also add some chicken broth to it for more flavor.

I make veggie, pea and potato soups. It was cold enough, but we had a LOT to do today and so didn't make any.

I don't eat bacon, because of my allergies, so mine is meat free... in fact, all my soups are vegan

I think anyone would appreciate a warm soup during cold weathers. It's actually a cold morning here in my area, however it's too early to have soup. I usually enjoy clear chicken soup not only during cold weathers but also when I'm sick of the colds!

Now that we've begun to get snow, I'm craving soup more than ever! I prefer thicker soups (or soups loaded with goodies), but a good brothy soup can go a long way.

hijerzgirl oh indeed here in sunny southern ca its been so cold and when we have soup here we g enerally ask for seconds as it is really good. the cook does a great soup but some other foods he is lousy at. I love shrimp bisque too and good old tomoato soup, mushroom soup, corn choweder and oh mylove clam chowder, thats so good. my fa vorite comto is of coure gooey hot grilled cheese sandwic h with thick hot tomato soup .They make a great vegetable soup here too but nobody has ever made clam chowder. theres a place down on Newport Pier called Charlies chili and his chili is great an his clam chowder the greatest. so good almost wo rth a bus trip do wn there for a doll ar just to eat his clam chowder. makes me hungrythinking about it.

The more I talk about this, the more I'm feeling like going into the kitchen to heat up some of my daughter's chili and make a grilled cheese to go with it. I can live without mushroom soup, although I don't mind canned soup as an ingredient (except in green bean casserole - no thanks!!) I've never had plain corn chowder, but I've had Mexican chicken and corn chowder that was really very good. I like Manhattan clam chowder, but not New England. I make pretty decent vegetable soup when I'm in a mind to and we have plenty of veggies on hand.

I tend to eat soup more in the summer than the winter, because it is quite light on the stomach and I don't like heavy foods during the summer. However in the winter I like warm heavy foods. My favourite soup is chicken and sweetcorn soup, the type that they serve in Chinese restaurants / takeaways. My second favourite is Chicken Noodle, so basically I am a big fan of clear chicken soup :)

I've never seen chicken and sweet corn soup. Our Chinese restaurants have wonton, egg drop and hot and sour soups. The eat in restaurants might have other choices, but I've never seen that one. It sounds interesting since I've eaten Chicken and Corn chowder in Mexican restaurants that was VERY good. If theirs is even close, I'd probably like it.

Hi jerzgirl, My dear, you just made me hungry. I love soup & chili during the winter because to me they just seem to be what the Dr. order. What I mean is, they take the chill off, plus taste better. I love to have a ham and cheese grilled sandwich and homemade hot coco! Have a wonderful and safe evening! Snow

Hi jerzgirl! Indeed it does sound very wonderful especially during these winter times. I love soups as well. My favorites include mushroom soup (although I haven't got a recipe yet), tomato soup (not tinned), vegetable soup, cream of corn soup and onion soup. My fiancee can cook a really delicious onion soup and tomato soup. He likes to add herbs and spices to enhance the flavor of the soup. We usually love to eat it with toast or french bread. Would love to learn more soup recipes that are easy to prepare and cook though. :)

Yum - onion soup. I like that, too. Today around here would be the perfect day for soup because we got snow last night. Yum!!
