Mylot Issue: Newbies, Oldies or Veterans

Hello there people.
,
I don't know how to compose this topic since It's about to slip out of my head again.
since i got active into active things.
Well, here it goes. first, there was a few lotters who complained about Reminders who are being too abusive by pretending they are the law and supposedly imposing the rules of mylot on them. i do recall some were doing it but from my view it's just a reminder.of course, i went mad when some one reminded me of that too...two years ago
(still active)
Then there was this response from another veteran that she didn't like mylotters being categorized differently from one another.maybe we did categorized them, that made the new comers a bit intimidated with those people with many post. really?
So, I proposed that we stop calling These names (Newbies, Oldies, Veterans, or even Regulars) for some reason so that we can achive equal treatment with each other. I hope if there's such thing as Nepotism here, we should end it too.
How? that's where you're opinion comes in.
Have a great day.

hiu this tees me off.first the newer people here complain to us older ones who have been here awhile about getting so many of their discussions deleted. well gee whiz nelly if you complain and we step in and suggest you go read the guidelines and rules and questions and answers did it ever dawn on any of you we are not reminders, we are just trying to help you. I sure cannot help it if someone wants to twist a gentle trying to help response into I am being abusive or mean or am the law here. I was once a new person here and I asked for help too and I did read the information and I did not ever have a discussion deleted.Perhaps some do not like us using oldies or newcomers but just how are we to address someone who we can see is really new?How about not being so dammed sensitive? I am 84 and I am also sick of people looking down on older people as senile and decrepit because most of us are none of those things. In my way of looking at life, if I call to a person who is walking along and did not see the sign that said danger bridge is out, and tell her that ahead is a bridge that has a huge hole in it so be careful. You can not go further on this walk, I am being a reminder, an unkind, police type person? Can anyone tell me this is not common sense? I am not the mylot police, I have just been here a few years and do know the ropes.

Hello hatley
,
I have to be honest, I was like a police type lotter when i made the Mylot Guardian theme, probably because I was so connected with mylot i wanna be an admin myself. but not anymore, at least i couldn't even bother myself reminding other people about the rules and regulations.yeah, you're one of those who lasted longer here. I am so glad you're always around.

Hello Ifa225,
that's true, not only we are big family that's why we don't need to categorize ourselves. unfortunately, i am guilty of this for the response collectors
but it's an issue for that topic starters should take their people responders seriously.

I have never really categorized anyone in any site that I have been a member of. The usual set up would be newbies for those who are indeed new and the regulars who been a member of the site for a good amount of time. You don't need to mention that most of the time 'cause everybody would know it already.
For those who are new who get bothered by reminders, that's normal. They are just getting use to the rules and constant reminders would just constant until they don't even realize being reminded.
On being categorized, other members do that. They can do that and others might follow but, of course, not everyone would agree. I remember a discussion that you made before about Responder Collectors. That's the same as categorizing and you explained it quite well on that discussion. I guess some that wouldn't agree to such category would be those who do belong to that category (^_^")
Anyway, this slightly reminds me of Edward Said's Orientalism.. well, just on the categorizing part..

Well, how can I respond if 'not once this person has commented on you're response?' I can't definitely give my reply since no response has yet been given to my post. Anyway, this happens to anyone here in this site and in other sites as well that has the same theme but, we can't generalize that to the other members here. We can also admit that there are times when we just don't have the motivation to be active here in this site, same thing goes to everyone.
There has always been gaps but, it is needless to mention. For example, one can assume that you have been here more than I do when it comes to the number of posts that you have made yet, looking at our profiles, its obvious that I have been here longer but, not just as active as you have been. Be it on the number of posts, how long someone has been a member or the amount of activity one invests here in this site, gaps can be found and determined but, mentioning such things would just suggest divisions which isn't a goal of a online community which has this purpose of enabling members to share thoughts, ideas, discuss opinions and earn while doing so.

Hello Ratzy,
Oh, you got me there
but seriously, what would you feel if you are an active responder to this discussion. and not once this person has commented on you're response, wouldn't you feel lazy responding there any further? cause that's what i feel sometimes. but the categorizing newbie, oldie, veteran.etc. gives a certain gap between others.
as for the that categorizing part, I guess it has woken up some people and started thanking their responders
i call some newbies too so am guilty of this.1 person likes this

I have to agree that not categorising people would be a really good idea. After all how long is a newbie going to be a newbie, for example although I am becoming an oldie ( in more ways than one!) and I don’t mind that label too much I guess. Really I don’t think there is any need for any labels, just like in the offline world we are in this together and no one is all that different from one another. There are always going to be those who are not easy to please!

Catagory, hmm, have I been put in a catagory? If so I never noticed. I was new at this at one point, that is true. I appreciated the help of those that have been here to show how it works. I honestly did not read the guidelines when I first started so in that I made mistakes. I appreciated being told by other lotters it helped me. Then I actually went in and read them.
I have seen many others make the same mistakes when they have first started, so I have given the same respect to them that was given to me when I started. Showed them where to look and read so that their posts would not get deleted. I felt I was passing forward the help I received. If this is what your calling reminders I didn't have a problem with them. Sure I didn't like them at the time that they showed I wasn't following the rules, still they helped, that is what I appreciated.
Newbie, oldies, and veterans... don't feel I fit into any of those except I am in my fifties does that count...

Hi there
Yourself,
I didn't figure age was apart of it, was just making a joke...
I have seen new members join that know exactly what to do here, and others that need help. It is hard to say, all we can do is do what we can to help others if they need it.
I like mylot because it brings so many people together from all over the world together to share life..

Hello there
,
I believe i have made a mistakes too in the past. but for now am trying my best not to repeat those mistakes, specially breaking the rules of this site. i think i will refrain myself from calling others a newbie or veteran. and age doesn't count since they are actually some new people that are also old by age.

I would agree on that. It defeats the purpose of having to contribute on mylot's community where status which you have mentioned can never be regarded as more beneficial. Although it could strikingly motivate them to be more active, equality should likely take it on to prove that.

Hello Mhypie,
There is a star reputation but that doesn't really discriminate each other, it's the way we are called. probably i myself would avoid doing this since it could intimidate others from talking to users like me
i don't want to be seen as too bosy but just an ordinary person here.

Hi Letran! I think that you are right about putting people into
categories. It really isn't necessary and maybe it does make
some people uncomfortable. People are going to act the way they
want to no matter what and nothing that is said or done to them
is going to change that unfortunately. So, I'd advise everyone
to ignore those that try to take them out of their "comfort zone"
as my "Rehab Counselor" would always say (and I hated hearing)!
The more she said it the madder I got! Anway, you get what I'm
saying?

Well, this is just an appeal specially to us that have been here for a long time. I feel that new people are intimidated by us.because normally we reply to each others discussions and not check on the new ones.
maybe I've been guilty too when i mentioned something about Response collectors, well i just ate my words

Haha, sounds good. It's so true, I'm glad that someone finally stepped up and said something about it. Although I still stereotype newbies sometimes..I don't try!!! But I am prejudice I guess because I've been spammed by a few too many. I'll try to be more open-minded though. It does seem like there's a hierarchy within the MyLot community, something like - the more posts you have, the more you know, or something like..When obviously that's not true!

Letran-
I remember when you brought this up before and I believe some others have also brought this topic up in the past where "interests" were concerned. There was a growing concern that people were trying to keep others out of certain interests such as the ones that are country or region specific. There was also the concern that you brought up that there were those who were overly concerned about "titles" and some using said titles as privilege on Mylot.
I understand that people are free to write on any topic they wish to write on, but I know that the guidelines suggest that one write on what knows something about. We are to provide quality answers and often times if people write on a subject they know nothing about they end up spreading misinformation and that does not do anyone any good. So I can understand that those in certain categories may simply be requesting that those who know something reply instead of people replying just to get one more post toward earnings. To give you an example, I don't comment on the many government posts regarding the Philippines. Why? I simply do not know anything about how the country operates so I cannot speak about it.
In terms of titles, well they are just man made. Titles do not really reflect the quality of one's work. It reminds me of rank in the military. Some of the best have been low rank while some of the poorest have been high rank officials. (Though no disrespect to our military men and women is meant, most will know just what I mean). I would not focus so much on the words that someone wants to throw around with their "title".
I would love to see us simply avoid the use of any title and base our feelings on the merit of the individual. To share with you there are times I disagree on a topic with someone, but that doesn't mean I dislike the person. It simply means that the particular discussion is something we disagree about. Sometimes people can dislike a person based upon one difference, but I'd like to think that we could all learn that it is those differences that make our world so unique.

Hello Anora,
Well, that response caught my attention since I myself felt intimidated with the old lotters before, but i guess we just treat and speak to every one as clear and as equal as we can. that's true difference can actually help us learn from each other here.
well, we are not military and we are really ranked except we have star reputation.@LetranKnight25 (33117)

Hi Letran!
As much as we don't like to be judged and categorized we shouldn't be doing the same to others. It's absolutely uncalled for. Veterans or newbies do not mean that much as to the quality of the discussion, one that is practical and serves to guide the users to find a solution or one that serves the objective of the post. Everyone deserves to be heard. Categorizing would only put walls between us.
Have a great day too!

I do not believe I have categorized anyone outside of quality and or silly posting, in my silent brain.
I try at all times to treat everyone fairly as I know I was a newbie once before. I suppose I can be categorized as a newbie as I am only reaching my 6th month, it just happens to be that I have posted so much at one time that I have the numbers that I do.
I too hope we can simply get along and as mysd stated yesterday, it is December so we should try harder to be really nice, sort of Christmas presents to all and maybe continue to carry the niceness over there after.

,
I agree with let us be nice to each other in this site, since we aren't that much in here that we tend to get to know more of each other through the discussions that we made.
well, as of this moment i prefer to make more topics than respond so much, sometimes it's not in me anymore to respond to so many topics.
As for the payment record, this is will be my 14th pay out Next month when i get it from my paypal. but i don't think this is enough for me to buy gifts for my niece and nephew this coming Christmas.

I read your discussion. I consider my self a newbie in the sense that I am new to mylot so I will have less knowledge of the rules and regulations. I can go to the terms and conditions or the frequently asked questions for that, but it doesn't get fit in our mind instantly. I think people use this term only in this sense. If someone break the rule of discussions most of the time the person is new here. Instead of 'a newbie' I don't know what else will you call the person. People gain here the knowledge from each other.
A newbie can have a bigger knowledge than the other person also. It doesn't bother me if someone call me a newbie, that is ok with me unless you don't misunderstand the term 'newbie'. Other words you said, like 'veterans', I am not familiar with these words, and I don't use them here.

,
YOu are a new comer, but that doesn't mean you're a newbie. Just remember to read the guidelines and avoid spamming discussions, you'll do fine from there.
you will get used to being on this site. it's very cool here and not boring. if you have bigger knowledge, then that's great, you can share it with other people.

I don't see there is a problem. A veteran has been here a while and knows the ropes, a regular is one who frequents the site on a regular basis unlike some who attend for a time then disappear for a time, then come back and so on. Then there are newbies who jump in without reading the TOS, FAQs or the guidelines.
I see no problem with any of that provided there is respect shown to all.
What I really hate, abhor, despise and detest is to be called a Mylotter or to be wished "happy mylotting".
The name of this site is myLot. It is a registered name. I am a member of this site - NOT a mylotter. When I post something I am contributing...I am NOT mylotting.

I know the admin doesn't categories us, it is some of us (even me) who are considering this things. i know am guilty so am putting a stop on to this. well, regarding you're question, some don't follow rules. i think people think of us differently because i noticed most with lesser post respond to topics that are dominant by users with less post or new comers.

Well I have never catergorized anybody as far as I know since I have been here... I was catergorized myself when I was a 'newbie' but after a few days and getting to my 100 posts it stopped!!!
I have no idea how it could be ended but everywhere in life people are put into catergories, fair or not it happens and that really sucks too..
Hope you have a great day too!!!

Well, it's something that i have come to notice lately. maybe we could start the de-categorizing by not saying newbies and veterans to each other to bridge that gap. such can really intimidate others. I used to do that but probably some one needs to stand up and start appealing to others that we should treat each other equally.
