Cat smells meat fish?

Friends, my family has turned almost vegetarian, only on some Sundays we have non-veg food; may be meat, fish or chicken. When we sit for eating, two cats, they are stray cats lol, rush to the place where we are eating, and keep moving or mewing till they are given some of the stuff. I really wonder how they get the smell. My granddaughter Subhee is afraid of the cats. I hate the cats too, in the past they have spoiled my mattress, couch, torn the seat cover of my scooter seat. Are you a cat lover? Do you enjoy eating non-veg food, if so daily or on weekends? Do the cats rush to your dining space? Professor Bhuwan

That's NOT good for her cat. My cats eat nothing but meat and cat food designed for their needs. They are all extremely healthy. I take them to the vet every now and then for exams and shots. Rice and milk are okay, but don't add sugar. Cats' bodies cannot process sugar.

hi professor yes I love cats but here in this retirement center it would cost too much to have a pet as they up the rent one hundred dollats which I do not have. Here we are served both non meat days and meat days too as we have no choice in what they fix for us.But at least those who have cats or small dogs must keep them ion their rooms. It would be against the state laws for retirement centers to allow dogs and cats in our dininr room.

hi professor, cats are naturally carnivorous. reason why rats never pass their path. i got cats from neighbors but it never gets in the house because of my dog tashi. i dont think a cat can stay alive inside the house for 30 minutes. tashi hunts even rodents that sometimes get in accidentally. so i do not have that problem with cats. and they cannot get in my house because of the screen on the doors and windows. although i have seen cats that eat veggies, professor. but they are not vegetarian. thank you for sharing your experiences with cats. have a very nice day. ann

tashi is no more. she's been taken to heaven i guess because she is a good dog. we got a new puppy and her name is supposed to be "sam". but she doesnt respond to that name and jan added "pot" to sam which means her name now is sampot. in our vernacular it means butt. i guess she likes it a lot. we call her pot (sounds the same as it is pronounced)

Actually, our family mostly only eats meals that have meat in them. I think that has a lot to do with our own background. Both my husband and myself came from families that eat a lot of meat. However, we will occasionally have a vegetarian meal for a change of pace. Also, we are both cat lovers. Tom has been a cat person for as long as I've known him, but I've only become a cat person this year after my daughter brought home the cat, Cornbread, that was a member of our family for a short time. Since then he has passed away (he was a stray before we got him) and we've added Buttercup and Peaches to our family.

I am also a cat lover. But I got rid of my cat some weeks ago. The reason is, we no longer have a vacant lot where she used to dump her wastes, like fecal matter and urine. After that, even if I provide her a litter box, she still littered the house with dirt, mostly in our floor mats. My mother got really mad at her, she pleaded to me to put her in exile to some faraway place forever. I was really sad to bade to her farewell.

Before i was not a cat lover. but my children taught me to love cat. we had a beautiful lovely cat. but we lost it one year before. we don#t know what happened to it. my children cried a lot for that. We are non vegetarians. You know, sri Laqnka, specially north part of the Sri Lanka is bleased with fish, as it is a small insel. So we could eat tasty, good quality, fresh, harmless fish every day. Fish is not an expensive food there. But Germany is not blessed with fish. fish is an expensive food here. and we don't like the taste even. as my husband is a very hard worker he prefer meet every day. realy i hate cooking meet everyday. but being very active is his nature. so i respect his individual need and cook meet every day. But our cat didn't like hot foods. that is not good for it also. we used to buy extra cat food for it. I hate being disturbed by my cat while eating. so i used to give meals just before our lunch or diner time. when his stomack is full with meals that would never disturbe us while eating.

Thank you so much for detailed response. Professor. . Cheers have a lucky day ahead. God bless you. Welcome always.

Because of the internal problem (war) in Sri Lanka we all are scattered all over the world with broken heart. Though we smile outside one corner of our heart cries always. My parents are living in India with my darling Sister-in-law. My brother is in Sri Lanka as he is working there. May God bless you too.

I have two cats at home and I feed one cat and dog of the street. Cats do have very good smelling sense. When some one is entering my gate, we do not even know about it. But my cat immediately goes up to avoid them. It is afraid of strangers. We are vegetarians. Hence we buy cat food which contains non-veg items. They will be in biscuit form. But the moment fish man comes on the street, you should see how the cats from even the far off place come running fast.

I'm an avid meat eater!!! I have meat almost every meal. I also have 2 indoor cats. YES, I love cats!!!! When my guys were little, I thought it was fun to tease them with food just to see what antics they would come up with in order to convince me to give them some food!!! As they grew older, I had to retrain them to leave me alone while I'm eating as they would drive me crazy begging. It took a while, but now they NO longer beg for my food as they know they won't be getting any. When they come near me begging, I just swat their nose. They don't like that so they will shake their head & run away. The ONLY meat they won't give up on having some of is Tuna. Fortunately, I eat very little Tuna!!! Cats are meat eaters by nature so it is their instinct to come running when they smell meat. They have very sensitive noses & will know almost before you decide to cook it that you will be eating meat during your meal. You can train them to NOT beg while you're eating. You can also train them to stay out of your home!!!! It's NOT easy, but it can be done!!!! .

Hi, I love cats and dogs but my house does not have any. Some cats I have seen are vicious (maybe due to them being strays and thus, have to be protective towards themselves to survive). I like and take meat but I occasionally take vegetarians food (but not on any fixed dates/days). During my education years, the school dining hall has many strays cats around. They usually hang around but never tried to come near us when we are eating. Once we go off, they will come (automatically) to search through our leftovers. And surprisingly, they like and take chicken bones!

Yeah Professor I also have observed this with cats. In our canteen area there are lots of cats, as it is in open space, when ever we eat meat and specially fish, one or two cats are always around us, they really have a good sense for fish. Cats shall never come near to you when you are eating some vegetables except they are hungry but when you are eating fish or meat they will move around you. I am cat lover but not very much, my cousin have cat and she loves her very much, I love them only when I come across them other wise I don't care much but I like them....:) Have a nice day dear...:)

Cats are natural meat-eaters, and know when you're serving and eating meat. Here in Canada, stray cats are not a problem, as we have veterinarians to fix the cats, so they don't have babies. Same with dogs. If an animal has been domesticated, there are very few strays in this area. We have a pet cat in the apartment, and when we have meat we give him a little bit.
