Treasure hunting.

Yesterday on a TV show, I saw that in Paris you can do these little treasure hunts. You go to a specific web site where they give you a couple clues. You follow those clues that lead you to more clues until your ultimate destination. You find a little treasure case and inside you find little treasures that people before you have left behind. You get to keep those treasures and you leave something else in return. I forgot the exact name what they are called but supposedly there are a few around the world and you can include this in your itinerary on your next trip. Have you been on a treasure hunt before?

Sounds like geocaching, which is worldwide. Learn more: http://www.geocaching.com/ I am a member, but I prefer waymarking.com which is a sister site. (Ah, but that's a different subject.)

Interesting. I just checked out that video on the website. But the one I saw was more low tech, they don't use any gps systems, only clues. So, what types of treasures have you collected?

In my geocaching adventures, I've collected and exchanged mostly inexpensive trinkets -- things like pins, patches, some coins, magnets, keychains, etc. The geocaches are rated according to difficulty. The GPS will pinpoint the location, but than, the real hunt begins. For example, one cache I found (and it took me two trips) ended up being hidden in a cleverly hollowed out tree stump. You had to remove the top of the stump to reveal the treasure box inside. I generally go for the geocaches that require some hiking and away from crowded places, although for the less adventurous, there are plenty of geocaches hidden in the towns and cities, too, that are easier and not as tricky to find.

This is the first time I've heard of such a thing or a game. I would love to participate in any kind of treasure hunting that would be challenging and exciting. Adventures are my kind of thing but I've never tried any treasure hunting especially in a beautiful place like Paris.

Yes, they do it right in the city so that you can also discover different streets and markets on the way. Great for travel and tourists.
