Sari and our marriage anniversary

Friends, ‘sari’ is a dress worn primarily by Hindu women; consists of about 5 to 5.5 meters of light material that is draped around the body. Last evening I had been to market to buy a Sari for my wife, as a present to her on 7th December.
This is our marriage anniversary; we were married on 7th December 1966.
I bought a ‘ Sambalpuri pure cotton sari’; for her as per her choice of color and pattern. Let me tell you, my city is Sambalpur, here we have weavers that make sari and dress material from pure cotton, pure silk and also blended material. They have beautiful patterns weaved by hand. The cost of a ‘Sambalpuri-sari’ may vary from 1000 rupees to 50,000 rupees.
Well she has chosen this sari, but I know she will get it changed 2-3 times from the shop from where we purchased, the owner is my friend, he knows her habit, so he will do it without hesitation.
It is headache for me to move with her to the shop,
but I have to do it, in the past too I have accompanied her to the shop.
I think most Indian women have this habit of changing things after buying.
What about your place, please share.
Thank you so much in advance.
Professor ‘Bhuwan’. . Cheers have a lucky day ahead.

Hello professor2010! You made me smile! I always admire men who's been sweet and thoughtful to their wives! Luckily,my hubby is just like you but not all the time! But he is sweet in so many ways!
There are stores here in the Philippines wherein there is no return,no exchange after buying a product. Fortunately most of our stores are accepting return products but in a specified time depending on their policies. Usually, you can return and exchange it within 24hrs.
Happy Anniversary in advance to both of you! Wishing you more anniversaries to come!

I once thought it would be fun to buy something, then return and exchange it for something else but I'm too embarrassed. I don't know any people that do it (at least not regularly) and it surely is childish. People should stick with their choices and support then a lot better than that. But then again, that's me.

Hello sir,
My hearty wishes, for your marriage anniversary.
Regarding the shopping, I don’t like the habit of exchanging the things already shopped. I will go again if there is any damage which I could not seen on the first instance. I may take little more time to spend and decide the item rather than wasting my time to go again to the shop and exchange it.

Wish you many happy returns for you Wedding Anniversary!
You wife is very lucky as you escort her for the purchase of the sari. It so happens sometimes that the sari we like in the store is not good when we get back home. But as the shopkeeper is your friend it does not matter. My husband never accompanies me whenever we go shopping. Most of the shopping is done by me and my daughter. You should see the expression on my husband's face when we say we need to exchange a clothing we bought earlier. So there is no room for exchange unless and until it is torn or something really grave.
Happy mylotting.

I am not the kind of person that typically chooses one thing and then decide to change it for another thing. The reason for that is that I think there is a lot of hassle in trying to exchange items. However, there have been times that I have received something as a gift and when I get a gift that either isn't something I can use or that is the wrong size, then I will exchange those items for something that I can use.

Professor2010 !! Sari is widely worn by Muslim women of West Bengal also. There are lot of design and variety available all over West Bengal and also in nearest country Bangladesh. Sari making in Madras also have huge popularity. Price of Sari in West Bengal also exceed Rs. 50,000 and in Bangladesh during Eid vestival Sari selling more than Taka 100,000 which I found to see in newspapaper. I found in website a beautiful Tangail Silk Sari which seems price might be US$50-55 in USA. I heard that in India and Bangladesh a few buyer replace sari after purchase from shop. They choose once do not want to change.

Congratulations on your wedding anniversary. May you both continue to live happily ever after. She is the most lucky woman to have you as her soulmate. You remember and cherish the day of your marriage and giving her a present to mark the day is one of the best thing a husband can do for her wife.
I think sari is evergreen fashion as it is always worn by Indian women regardless of the latest fashion scene. I can imagine the difficulties of washing saris as it is too long. I used to have an Indian maths teacher who used to wear sari everyday and it comes with beautifully printed floral.

sir, first of all best wishes for ur marraige anniversary. i hope ur wife has more patience in shopping time. generally ladies will be like that only and will select sarees for more time and more varieties. we(ladies) want to see more varieties of sarees .we cant buy more sarees ,as we cant afford more varieties. so want to see atleast more sarees at one glance when we go shopping and so spend more time in shop.
u gents have less varieties of pants and shirts than ladies. so u select in less time,or take any of pants and shirts u see in front entrance shop.
but ur wife should not see and exchange more times. i will not be like that,i will select once only,i will not exchange .
but as for ur marriage day purpose, see ur wife's wish, this time when she exchange saree also ,dont bother and enjoy with her.

hello Prof,
I am not an impulsive buyer, and i don't like buying things and then regret after.
I don't like going back and forth just for changing what i bought because i was not satisfied.
So,when i buy something i make sure that i choose the best,or it's really what i want.
Wish you all the best on your wedding anniversary my dear bhai.
Have a good day always

Dear professor,
First of all I wish you all the best on your wedding anniversary day. May god bless you for a long and healthy life.
Here also we have the facilities of changing the dresses within one month. But we seldom do it. We change them only if the size doesn't suit to us. to be frank I don't enjoy dressing. I buy dresses as a task. I hate these jeans and T-shirts or pullover. I don't like to wear them. But we should wear dresses suitable for weather. In my foreign life I miss so many things. saaree is one of them.

Hi dear,
Thanks for the info. Which Sambalpur belongs to which state? It is a good idea that whenever we go for shopping, accompany them alongwith, so that you can make the choice as per look and interest, so that you can complete the shopping at the same time.
In my case, whatever I bring, she like very much. Even though it is my selection for design, colour etc, I have a calculation how good it will look when she wear a sari. But don't go for such costl ones.
Thank-s

This is hilarious to me and I'll tell why. I think just about every woman in the world does this. Maybe not as often as your wife but here in the states there are very organized systems to handle this habit. What happens is we buy something special, we take it home and hang it where we can see it. Once it's home we may decide we could make a better decision. Back it goes. But some just like the feeling of shopping. Many find it fun! Men on the other hand go in, get what they need and move on! This is more like me. I don't get the pleasure from it.
