Have you heard about 'Selective Mutism'? A lot of children have this and it is a type of communication disorder. I used to have it, myself, when I was a child. This is where some people become so anxious to speak due to trauma/fear that they cannot let themselves speak. Sometimes they just shut down in public, other times, they can't speak to anyone at all.
