Ever Bought a Chia Pet?

I was reading a distant cousins comment on fb about Presidential Chia Pets. I had never heard of that particular version of them. I had to do a search to see how "ugly" they were as was the comment. I dunno... looks like about any other chia pet though I'm not quite sure how they got George Washington's to grow similar hair style. Eitherway we do have one no seeds anymore for the Scooby-doo one and it grew just fine. Have you ever grown one? DO you have a favorite character? How did you get yours? gift? love as-seen-on-tv items? or just for fun?

I can't believe these are still around AND coming out with new ones! No, I've never had one, and I can't think of anyone I've known who has. We're not big on keeping plants in the house. I'd like to.. but the animals and kids tend to destroy them.

It turns out that chia is a very good nutritional additive. The seeds are healthy, and so are the greens. It might not be bad for the animals to eat them.

I hear where Kat is coming from. I have similar issues with my kids as well that's why the plants stay outside and not inside. Gerty is right Chia is actually healthy for you to eat. However, it is more expensive than other thing like flax seed meal.

I used to buy my daughter one each year at Christmas time as she loved them. I find that she still enjoys them and if I can buy her one soon I will, but I don't think that Christmas will have gifts here this year. It is sad but that is the way that life is.

I hear ya! Once in a while after the holidays you can find them @ second hand shops. We got scooby new in the box from a thrift store. No way could we afford to buy one brand spanky new... don't they run $20 or thereabouts?

I have never had one. I bet that if you look you can find seeds online somewhere to grow Scooby a new winter coat. I do find it entettaining to think about. I think they used to have a sheep didn't they.

Well I'd imagine if I buy the seeds form a health food or organic store I could use the regular ones with it again. We never had the sheep just Scooby. I just wish the chia seeds weren't so darn expensive.

I really want one, but not sure which one to be honest. I think the idea is neat and I'd probably have several I'd keep growing for as long as I could. They are kind of cute and make a statement. I've seen the presidential ones but not the George Washington one, wonder how they got it to grow to the style of his hair too, I'll have to take a look.

I have never had a Chia Pet, but I have seen the new Obama one. I actually that it was a joke. I always wanted to get a Chia pet, but I am not very good with any type of plant, so I figured I would kill it and it wouldn't be worth purchasing one. I have also seen the Scooby-Doo one and that would be a cute one to get.

LOL I have seen pictures of some of the presidential ones and I think they are funny and creative. We had one once but my daughter kept over watering and it rot, stinky bad so I never got another one. I am however amazed that they are still around and popular though. LOL

Our plants usually go dry rather than become over watered and stinky. I think they are more of a gag gift when you don't know what else to buy someone.
