Converting popcorn requirements

So I found this nifty recipe for popcorn bars. Now my question is it says it takes 2-3.5 bags of microwave popcorn. How many cups of popcorn are in a microwave popcorn bag? You see I don't use microwave popcorn I only make air popped popcorn. So I'm trying to guess if anyone would know this so I can try to make this. It's no big deal if I have left overs in the plain popcorn someone will eat it ;0)
And it also calls for caramel sauce like you'd put on an ice cream. I don't have any of that either I was thinking of skipping that. Though if I did make it could I make it like you make the caramel you make for home made caramel popcorn would due?

i would say thats a good bit of popcorn. but i have no idea how many cups are in it. id say approximately 5 each. maybe you could do a search. i sometimes just make do with whatever. like the other day i made these really easy bisquits from a recipe i got in a mag. i had no ginger ale to add the 1 fourth of. so, i just put some warm water in place. they were so good my son said...make them again mom

btw, you need to figure how much its going to make to. like i knew 3 bisquits wouldnt be enough so i doubled up the ingredients. and even 6 werent enough.

Now see, for the gingerale, I have some on hand. If I did not, I would have added lemon lime soda pop, if I had it. If not I would have used apple juice, or I would have stirred some cider vinegar into water to make a quarter cup.
Snugglebunnies, I do not see why caramel sauce for caramel popcorn would not work in your recipe. Do let us know how it turns out. This is making me want to make caramel sauce, now.

It's supposed to fit into a 9inch by 13inch baking pan. It reminds me of making rice krispie treats but with a lil extras in there like... CHOCOLATE!
See stuff like ginger ale, I'd either find something to sub or not make it. I hate buying things that come in good size containers when you may or may not use it for something else. I'm glad your bisquites came out despite the substitution. Oh and another thought though I can't afford to waste right now so... if I use something I want to make sure I do it right!

Oh, that does sound yummy!
I would think there are approximately four cups of popped popcorn in a bag of popcorn.
And now, you really got me wanting some popcorn. :)

If you saw what was in this recipe I think you'd want these bars or caramel popcorn.
I can't help but
thinking about it.

Sorry no help fromme. I don't eat popcorn except for all ready made carmel popcorn! Sounds like your adapting the recipe so keep going and make your own. That was what I did one year for my sweet potatoes I knew what I wanted, something I use to buy years ago and they don't make that way anymore. So I went through my cookbooks and combined 3 different receipes and yep they are great and everyone loves them, even the ones that say "I don't really like sweet potatoes, but these are really good"
Good luck!!

I use canned sweet potatoes! But like you, I am the only one that likes them here. So I have to wait until we have a family dinner to have them or eat a lot of left overs!

Adaptation is one of the mothers of invention. Glad you found something that would work out for your. I used to like sweet potatoes til I had to peel them myself *LOL* But I figure sometimes there's no point in me buying them if I'd be the only one to eat them unless I got them for free.

Okay, from reading what you have to say to others,I am guessing this is a pretty forgiving recipe. On the popcorn, if you have a food scale, measure seven ounces unpopped popcorn, then pop it. If you do not have a food scale, do it by volume, that is, use a one cup measuring cup, and measure a little less, because one cup is eight ounces by dry measure.
Carmel sauce--I do not know if the caramel sauce for caramel popcorn will substitute, because I have never made it. I will probably look at a recipe and get back to you. I have made home made caramel sauce one time and I LOVED it and it was super easy. This all does sound great. Let us know how it comes out.

I was thinking about just popping the max the machine will take of kernels and then measure with a measuring cup the 4ish cups per bag.
I've just done the easy caramel popcorn you make in the micro & then shake in a paper bag. I don't think it'll be quite thick enough as the jar stuff is unless I experiment and hope not to burn it or I could just sit it outside and let the cold set it.

Why hello to you my friend Cynthie! Yeah I dunno but the recipe seems so simple and with stuff I have normally aside from the caramel sauce it was worth a shot perhaps.

I have absolutely no clue outside of saying that I so love popcorn and only make the air pop also.
I did not want to overlook your yummy discussion and wanted to stop by to get ideas as I am a popcorn fanatic, I eat it daily.
So I will watching the responses so I too can learn to make popcorn bars. YUM!

I will be reviewing the entire post. I left for a while which was suppose to be a fun time out. I had to come back home after an hour in a half as I am getting such a bad cold.
So the popcorn bars will have to wait a bit for me. As I am feeling like a big bad cold is coming. I was so looking forward to hanging out with the actors tonight and couldn't do it.

The last time that I measured out a bag of microwave popcorn was a while ago, so this could be incorrect, but I believe that there were between 4.5 and 5 cups of popped corn in the bags. I was using it to make a caramel popcorn recipe for a Tupperware gathering last year and let me tell you how delicious that stuff was. Anyway, if you don't mind too much, I would love to see the recipe that you are looking at, I am really craving some sinful sweets here lately.
