Would You Live Forever??

I once had a discussion about living forever. Pro side of it is that you can live any life you want, live anywhere you want. Meet a lot of people, Experience things in a variety of ways that a regular human could ever live. This question is a double edged sword, All of the people you meet, you might find yourself attached and in love. As humans we have emotions and sometimes its hard to say goodbye. So in the end, its just you. Me myself and I. Anyone you lose, you lose forever. All you will have is their memories. No hope of an after life to see them. Anyways, its always interesting what people have to say about this topic, someone always surprises me with their answers. They are usually unique answers. Shows what we really value.

Yes, please! WHen I was reading Anne Rice's Vampire series I thought then how nice it would to live forever. One huge argument was that your loved ones would grow old and die and you would be left alone. Well isn't pretty much how it is now? You still lose loved ones from time to time. So I am all for it. Now if I could just fine a vampire to make me immortal!

I think I would hesitate but only because it is such a foreign opportunity.

One perk I could think of to live forever would be that you would have all the time you needed to explore any and all occupations until you found one that you really love and it doesn't become work. You could see those changing times and differences of communication learning and growing with them. If you lived forever I'd like to think you wouldn't change except for true and perfect health. Just a fun addition.

You would not believe how many times I've had this conversation because my husband loves books and movies with immortal beings (he's reading Anne Rice right now). Personally, no, I would not want to live forever. It would be way too hard for me. I'm young still and I've already lost more people than I care to in my life and I know it's only going to be harder down the road as I continue to lose people that are dear to me. Saying goodbye is always hard, even if I do believe in an afterlife and that I'll see them again. What would I do if I never had a chance at that afterlife and knew for sure I would never see them again? For me, I think that would be the worst thing ever and I'd really have no reason to live. Then again, the only thing that I would really find fascinating about living forever is being able to experience all sorts of wondrous things, getting to travel, and see what humans create and evolve into in the future. Of course, the way humans are going I'm not sure I'd really want to see what happens 100 or even 200 years in the future.

Yeah the cons definitely outweigh the pros. Saying goodbye is hard you are right. Living forever by yourself is all your promised.

Like the story of the curse of Cain. Or the curse of the fallen angel Azazel. No I wouldn't want that. UNLESS, I can share my immortality to anyone I want to, like vampire stories! Not, that would be cool!

Everyone talks about these vampire books. Maybe I got to make a trip to the library.

While there are certain aspects of living forever that would be nice like being able to do things without fear of physical malady. It would however pose many heartbreaking aspects, as you've stated above. Every time you fall in love, make a friend or any other type of relationship you would be stuck knowing no matter what some day your going to lose that person, while you live on. However at the same time if you knew you could live forever imagine the great things you could do for the world. If you were a great scientist or inventor or something along those lines you'd have countless lifetimes to work on perfecting your research. At the same time though the old saying is the good die young so most likely if someone could live forever or did live together it would be a serial killer or dictator or something like that. Just my thoughts.

Ya your right, power changes people. And living forever in a way gives you an advantage over anyone.

Dear Sapri10. Seems as though you yourself haven't made a decision. I don't know that I could, either. But then, I see TV documentaries about various catastrophies (natural), and I think 'Hope it happens after I'm gone". The other night on Australian TV they ran a program I had seen before. It was about what would happen if Yellowstone National Park volcanoes erupted. Then there's the possibility of being hit by an asteroid. These appear to be end-of-the-world scenaries. Maybe when they happen we'll all be safely living on Mars or some other planet - oh no, that doesn't appeal either. I think I will give a definite thumbs-down to living forever. Have I, by any chance, helped you reach a decision? (as if you have to...)

You're right, the earth the older it gets the more irritated it gets with humans. My barber once said the earth is like a human going into a Forrest filled with mosquitoes, and those mosquitoes kept biting you and biting you. And I would defenitley not like to be around when mother nature gives the harder slaps. There are alot of cons to living forever. And I guess knowing you wont live forever gives our current lives that x-factor.

A difficult question. I really want to live long enough because there are so many different places in the world to be discovered, but at the same time being old is scary. Imagine you are 200 years old and will need to be helped to walk and everthing. So I think my answer is no, I don't want to live forever

Hiya Sapri, Downside of being able to live forever I suppose a bit like the Films that came out about "The Immortals". If they fell in love with anyone they survived them and would not be able to meet up with them again until they themselves actually by chance happened to die. DonĀ“t think I would want to live forever either with things being like that. Imagine if you really got to love someone and you did not die say for several Centuries and how weary you would be of this World by that time. Would not mind living a bit longer but not like the Immortals did no thanks at least not the way this World is.

No. Have you seen Code Geas: Lelouch of the Rebellion? If you've seen that, you will see how CC suffered because she lived forever.

I think it was last month, I joined a group and we have skype chat everyday. This one comes to our topic all of a sudden and everyone have different insights. Some do want to live forever for certain reasons and some don't. I think it was 8 years ago, I was hooked with Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles. I was thinking that it would be really cool to be immortal. You can do whatever you want, go wherever you want. You have all the time in the world. But things changed. Once you begin to know people and begin to value them. Once the real world issues begins to kick you out from your fantasy world. After the group, I asked the same question to my boyfriend to know his opinion. We have the same thoughts, I would consider immortality only if we are both immortal.
