Snow = Money; No Snow = No Money

Okay, I really have a rant. I live in Nova Scotia, just about the only region in North America that DIDN'T get that bloody snow that everyone else is getting! There's always seem to be this warm, southeasterly wind coming our way that brings 50-70 milimetres of rain, while up in New Brunswick they got snow, and our neighbours down south get hit with blizzards.
Now, I know I sound like a whiny lil' baaaiiiitch, but my husband has 2 or 3 houses that he shovels snow for, and we're really hoping for a little extra cash ($15-$30 a shot, depending on how much snow we have to shovel), sometimes he gives me a little bit then I put it into my summer savings nest egg.
*sigh*
All this warm weather isn't healthy, either, we have conjunctivitis going around in our schools, and flu season is almost here, and we don't have that extra chill to kill off the viruses and bugs.
Would you believe me that as I type, there's steady wind that's 59km/hour with gusts up to 95km/hour? LOL ya, a huge major wind and rain event happening now,, and it's 12 degrees Celsius, too! The rain hasn't started yet, but Halifax is supposed to get 70 milimetres of rain overnight and Tuesday and police is warning people to stay home if possible.
I want snow :-(

We do not have snow yet, but we have cold weather. I guess it will help with some of the allergies and viruses. I know how it is to count on extra cash and have it not be there, though. The next thing that happens is that something breaks and it eats up even more money that we do not have.

Eeks, ya, I heard about that major storm down in California, are you guys okay? I know there was a mud slide as well, I hope nobody was injured.
We did get a brief period of snow, but not enough to shovel, now it's all melted and Nova Scotia's in another rainstorm, in fact right now we're under a storm surge warning along the coastal areas, and Halifax is right along the coast.
*sigh*
Such unusual weather us North Americans are having, isn't it :-p

The opposite is true for a lot of businesses, though. For example, I work at a dry cleaners, and it was so slow - we are usually open from 9 to 5 - and we had 2 customers the whole time, and actually got to close early (at 3) just because we weren't making enough money to stay open. Restaurants, stores, malls, etc - pretty much any kind of retail suffered HARDCORE this weekend because of the snow. Like Andora, I also live in Minnesota - and in Minneapolis, we got 17 inches of snow. It was ridiculous. Pretty much anyone in retail suffers when this kind of thing happens; I lost out on 2 hours of work, the company i work for lost about $1,500 at least - considering that's how much we usually make on the average, non-blizzarding Saturday. I feel like the only people who DO benefit from this kind of weather are, I guess, snow-shovelers, plow people - people in the "snow removal" industry, whcih I would imagine is a small group of people. Then again, plows were stopped early Saturday afternoon because too many of them were getting stuck, so they probably didn't make much money either. Hmmm. It's unfortunate that you lost the chance to make some extra money, but then again, I would never wish upon you the storm we just got through having, it was hellish, crazy, dangerous, and is not worth $100 or however much you and your husband might make trying to shovel sidewalks through it all.

The problem is, that we use our van a lot more in the winter time (spring, summer, and fall we walk a lot) so that extra money helps us with our gas bill, and a little for summer savings.

Masihi-
We got twenty one inches of snow here. We had a blizzard this weekend and it was something else! It's bitterly cold here as well, but we had the pantry full this weekend so it was all fun.

Wow, from that picture, you were WALLOPED!!! Glad that y'all had fun down there, nothing like those old-fashioned winters were we played outdoors and made snowmen and came in for hot chocolate and warm up by the fire-stove!
