Are rape charges against wikileaks founder Assange just a way of distracting him

I'm surprised that Assange is being held on charges for rape when the whole world is talking about wikileaks. Is it just a conspiracy to try and keep him in jail so he cannot let out any more secrets?

I think people want to believe in these conspiracy theories, because that would be so much interesting, but I think the real reason is that he did it. A much more boring theory, but that's still what I think :)

The way things work and people connive now days that wouldn't surprise me. Assange is even being helped by one of my favorite people, film make Michael Moore. I am appauled at this reality. This is what it says on mirror.wikileaks.info:
'We are of assistance to peoples of all countries who wish to reveal unethical behavior in their governments and institutions. We aim for maximum political impact.'
If it works it is great and why shouldn't we be interesting in it if it says it will do this sort of thing? If Assange is guilty then who wants to be talk about him and isn't Wikileaks better?
