Were you ever not there when your child got home from school?

I am so livid right now I need to vent about this before I blow up.. again! Today was a typical Friday, I go to the gym, leave there about 10:30ish and head over to Walmart to do my grocery shopping. Rarely do I ever leave Walmart later than 12pm, which gives me plenty of time to get home and even put away the groceries before my preschooler's bus comes at 12:45. Well, today I guess I took a little too long at Walmart because I was attempting to finish my Christmas shopping. The store was packed, they were out of a lot of the items I was looking for, and it was just an all around bad experience. Well I finish the shopping and get to the register and realize it's now 12:25!! Well, I picked a short lane so hopefully I can get out quick and make it home in time... Wrong! I managed to pick the slowest cashier in the store! But I had so much stuff I didn't want to have to come back.. and much of it was my groceries, so milk and meat.. it's not like I could just leave it there waiting for me to come back for it. So I warned the cashier I was in a hurry.. she said "I'm going as fast as I can".. then I swear she purposely went slower, and kept stopping the conveyer so I couldn't finish loading my groceries... So I ask her to call over a CSR so I can ask him what to do since there's no way I'll have time to finish this purchase and get my son on time. The CSR comes over and I tell him this cashier is too slow and I'm going to be late.. he says "There's no reason to speak like that about her." Um.. but I'm the customer and I'm unhappy! "Well you don't need to complain right in front of her.. she's been here for years" blah blah blah. Then he tells me I should have a professional attitude! Excuse me! I'm the CUSTOMER why should I have a professional attitude?? And I'm completely freaked out because I'm about to be late!! So the CSR takes over ringing out my items, which he does at a good speed, and another CSR helped load my groceries into the cart.. and I ran to my car and litterally threw the groceries into it... But I still didn't make it home in time for my son.. his bus and come and gone already.. I missed it by like 5 minutes (amazed I didn't get pulled over for speeding on the way home!). I ended up having to drive to the school to get my son because the bus returned him there. I plan on calling Walmart and complaining to a real manager.. not that it will do any good. I also plan on NEVER shopping at that store again! EVER! Have you ever not been home when your child got home from school? What was the reason?

Can't blame the store for one slow cashier..I would just steer clear of her ever again. But yeah my mom has had to rush home several times because of my sister and there were several times she didn't make it and had to go to the school. It is a scary experience. YOur just lucky though that they aren't the type to let the kids off and go like they used to..well they did here in Kentucky. I am glad they changed that. The cashier had been there for years? And they still kept her? She must be family of the managers...only way I know they would keep someone so unproductive.

This is more or less the straw that broke the camel's back. I often have bad experiences at Walmart. Most of their cashiers are rude, most do not know how to bag and that drives me crazy. The customers are rude as well. I've just never seen so much blatant disregard for other people as in the Walmarts in my area.. and trust me the Walmart I frequent is the better of the 2 in my area.. there's another 15 minutes in the oposite direction, literally the same distance to either one.. but I refuse to go to the other because it's so much worse. I've been saying for years that if I could afford to do my weekly grocery shopping anywhere else, that's what I'd do. Well.. that's it, I'm doing the shopping elsewhere, and I'll get a job to make up the difference in money!

What's a CSR? Gave you a lecture? I'd complain too!!!! I'm often not home when they get home. Their dad picks the twins up as I"m still at work, and Dearra takes the bus home. When they were smaller I did drop offs and pick ups though.

Customer service rep. Most days I do pick him up.. but Fridays he takes the bus so I can get my shopping done after the gym. This is the first time I've ever been late! Though there was a time when my oldest was in kindergarten I forgot he had a half day and hubby and I were out somewhere when I realized my son would be home by then. He was a good kid though, got himself a snack and sat down to watch TV until we got home.. back in the days when they didn't have to make sure someone was home before letting the kid off the bus!

I have been late but not when my kids were preschool age. They did not go to preschool. I did drive right past my Kindergarten age son, who was walking home, and did not come home on time. I did not even see him. He was supposed to be home in time for me to go pick up another Kindergartener from a private school. He often "explored" and came home late. This was long before cell phones. I think I would have called the school or bus service in your shoes. Of course the kind of help you can get varies from district to district. When I drove bus, we would occasionally help a mom out that way and run the route a little differently.

I do not own a cellphone.. otherwise I could have called my father in law who lives right up the road from me to see if he could get to my house before the bus. I do desperately need to get my cellphone turned back on!

Thankfully there has only been one time when I didn't make it home in time for my daughter's bus. She was in first grade at the time so they didn't return her to school, she simply freaked out that I wasn't there. The reason that I was late was because I had to drop off a piece of information to the guy at the DMP management place and it took a couple more minutes than I thought that it would. Then, on my way to our house there was an accident that happened right in front of me. Since then, I try not to leave the house when there is a chance that Kathryn will get home before I would.

That would be very frustrating. It's hard to get shopping done when you have other things to do because sometimes the store is empty, but the next week at the same time it is so full it takes 4 times as long to get the groceries paid for! This hasn't happened to me, but I would be freaking out if it did. I'd probably leave the groceries there, as much as I wouldn't want to waste more time coming back and doing my shopping all over again.
