Christmas

As we all know, Christmas is fast approaching. With this new season, I have come across a couple of problems. For one, my children thought that they could make a list for Christmas and that they would get everything that they asked for. I had to explain to them that the list was just so that people could get an idea of what kinds of things they wanted, but that they weren't going to get EVERYTHING that they asked for. The second problem that my husband and I encountered was Santa. Now I know that there are a lot of people out there who have told there children that there is no such person as santa, in fact, before deciding what to do, my husband and I decided to do some research into the whole Satan tradition. I am not going to lie, it was very dissapointing. First off there was no Santa Clause, there was a saint Nicolas, but dispite popular belief, he wasn't the merry, present giver, portrayed today. In fact he was a character used in Germany, to get children to behave with the threat of not recieving treats during the holidays. WOW! I know. We decided that this will be the last year that our children get lied to. I know that there are a lot of parents out there that think that there is nothing wrong with this little white lie, I used to be one. Now however, I think about the fact that while we have been fibbing about Santa to keep the kids happy, we have forgotten the whole reason that we celebrate Christmas, THE BIRTH OF CHRIST. Now I am not a very religious person and I have researched the season for more than one reason. Did you know that December 24 was not the true day of Christ' birth? I didn't. However it is stated in pretty much all the history facts that we could find. He was born on a different day and Christmas was adopted to fit the needs of the church.I was more than a little dissapointed when I found this out. Lately I can't help but think that the whole Church has been built on lies. I personally have decided to adopt another reason to celebrate Christmas: FAMILY. There is nothing more important than our families and I can't wait to have fun with mine this year. So I have to ask: Why do you celebrate Christmas? What does your religion say about Christmas? What is your favorite thing about Christmas?

My kids knew that Santa was not real. I thinkthey visited him one time. I just made up my mind that it would not be a big issue, because it had caused me some grief and hard feelings as a child. Celebrating the birth of Christ around the winter solstice was a way the church tried to adapt to pagan celebrations, but I was never told that it was THE day Jesus was born, only that it was the day we chose to celebrate. No one knows the true day of His birth. I saw a post on another site that talks about the actual convergence of stars and planets that the wisemen likely followed. My daughter limits the number of presents on Christmas, and on the girls' birthdays as well. For Christmas, she says that she does not want it to be about presents, but about celebrating the birth of Christ. For the girls' birthdays, she wanted them to know that the day is baout celebrating them. I know you can celebrate family at Christmas, and it will be meaningful as well. It has been said that it makes no sense to tell kids to take candy from a fat stranger and eat it from their socks.

The thing that i love about christmas is that we all get to spend time together and do not have to think about all the other things that are going on around us, as christmas is a day that is so busy we do not get the time to worry about things.I love to see my family happy opening all their presents and to see them also playing happily together.I am still unsure of what i want for christmas off my husband, as i have all that i need and i think as long as we have a good christmas that is all that matters to me.
