I cut the tip of my right index--and it's drving me CRAZY!

Three days ago, I sliced the tip of my right index finger with a knife. It is not a deep cut, but because of it's location, it is taking forever to heal. And it is affecting my life!!! I can't type well or write for long (so the holiday cards will be late again); it hurts when I wash my hair, and opens again when I wash the dishes. Putting in my contact lenses has become quite a trick, since that's the finger I use. Even reaching into the popcorn bag at the movies almost made me scream out loud when the salt got in the wound! And I'm trying to keep it covered, but the bandaids keep falling off or getting loose, again because of the location. It is really driving me nuts!! Have you ever had a not-so-serious injury that interferes with your daily life?

I can see it a awkward and challenging but you can learn to get around it. Typing: You cab type using the other fingers. I just did it. I can type not having to use the index finger at all. It night be a bit slower but you can get around it. Cards: Don't write them. type them on your computer, print it and cut it so it fits in the card. I do that with all my cards since I tend to write a bit fast and it is sloppy. Keep a band-aid on it during the day and then take it off during the night so that it heals. Washing, or anything else, put on a pair of rubber gloves and that will protect the wound. Yes, it will not be easy but you have to take measures so that it heals as fast as possible. I wish you the best!

Very good advice--all of it. No problem with cutting--it's not that big or painful a wound as long as I don't bang it. And I am typing with a different finger--definitely slower, but doable. Thanks for the helpful response!

I used to get paper cuts at the tip of my fingers all the time and had to learn to deal with that till they healed. Such small cuts, but on the tips of the fingers it was always such a big problem. Hope your finger heals fast!

This is Elic replying on Maggie's computer. Go get yourself a jar of Carmex. Apply liberally and often to the cut. Also, get some gloves like at the doctor's office and use those when you wash your hair or dishes until it heals. You could've used those for that toxic... I mean popcorn too (I'm deathly allergic to corn, so forgive me.) Even putting in the contact will be made easier if you put the Carmex on and then the glove. As for typing or writing, well, there's a finger splint that might help with the writing, but it doesn't do much for your typing speed... Bandaids will pad it, but the Carmex will help it heal. Wounds heal from the inside out, and cuts spread because the edges dry out, keeping them from healing because the edges spread. The Carmex will keep then edges together and you will find it heals in half the time.

Thanks--I tried it and it worked. I used Vaseline the first evening, and then went to the pharmacy the next morning. Now I guess I have to finish those holiday cards. . .no more excuses!
