Ever wash clothes in the middle of the night?

It's around 2am here I need to get to bed. Or shall I say I was asleep but then my hubby locked the cat in the room & he wanted out. So I figured instead of tossing and turning I'd come online and now that I'm on my way to bed again.... I thought what the hey I'll toss in a load of wash. As with my plumbing it takes a while for the waste water to drain so.... now would be the perfect time as there is no one needing to use the water in my house right now. And they say electric rates are cheaper at off times.
Anyone else do wash at unusual times just for the sake of the timing and getting it done?

I raised 5 kids and did laundry in the night all the time. It was the only way i COULD GET things done. I rmember when my parents were living with us, the washer and dryer are downstairs, and their bedroom was off the stairway and my mom came out about 2-3 am and asked "WHAT do you think your doing?"..."laundry"..."WELL people are trying to sleep around here!".... sorry mom, with them living with us too that put 9 people in this house..I HAD to do laundry in the middle of the night. MY KIDS did laundry too. Otherwise, I probably would have had to put my bed in the laundry room!
Now it is just hubby and me and I still do laundry in the middle of the night. Sorry you didn't sleep good last night. I slept all night, very rare for me to do that but I feel great this morning and hope I can get a lot done today.

9 people that's alot of laundry to do for sure. And you were right you probably had to do it in the middle of the night just to keep up with things. I would of told your Mom then she can get up and do it for ya so that it's on her terms then... but make sure it gets done.

Hi snugles,
well unfortunately mom wasn't capable of doing anything, that's why they were with us, we wanted them to take our bedroom upstairs but they wouldn't, she had all she could do to climb the stairs. Right now I need to be putting laundy away. Am on my last assignment for this class and can't wait till its done!

Nope, laundry isn't my idea of what to do in the middle of the night. Going up and down the steps is sure to make me wide awake and there are a lot more entertaining things to do!

Well if you wide awake why not? I don't think going down steps half awake would be a good idea though.... I know I'd probably fall on my face *LOL*

I sure do, but not most of the time, because most of the time the other roommate has left stuff in both the washer and dryer...
anyway, tonight (well, its about 7 a.m.) I don't want to get started because I know the roommate wants to wash her bed today.

I will usually not wash laundry in the middle of the night, because I don't like to leave the wet clothes in the washer for long if I can help it.. they'd end up smelling if I forget about them, and I usually do end up forgetting about them no matter what time I put them in!

That's true I sometimes forget about a load as well. If it's only a few hours it's no biggie but if it's a day or so... then yeah it deserves a re-wash.

Sometimes i feel like all i get accomplished in a day is doing the laundry,. I can honestly say that I have yet to have to do laundry in the middle of the night., I say if the clothes waited this long, the morning will be soon enough for washing.@3SnuggleBunnies (16374)

true, however I know my mornings are just a mess trying to rush and get everyone going starting the washer is the least of anything on my mind at that time.

If I am awake and really cannot sleep or get cozy in the middle of the night, I will do laundry or dishes either one. It seems like a good use of time to get it done.

i do-because i usually am up at that time.
i don't do it as much in winter tho because i don't want to risk putting hot water in cold pipes late night.

hi 3SnuggleBunnies I havenever been able to do that as living in an apartment you have to use their wash rooms . the wash room was a brisk walk from my apartment at the last place and we were admonished no
washing clothes as others are sleeping. thats the place we were evicted from the rent was 1200 and going u p now to 1300 and the apt are old and need repair the gardens is what all were paying for as the ap ts are not worth 1200 let alone more. If I had had a washer and dryer i my own apt I weou odf have washed clothes at night too.

I just do it whenever I can. It is 5am and I have to take my sister to catch a coach and I just flung a load it the washer

No, I have never done laundry in the middle of the night....except when my kids were young and puked on the bedding.
When I can't sleep(which is getting more and more because of peri-menopause, I think), I either read or get up and go online and read.

I also manage to wash clothes in the middle of the night, as well as go to the grocery store in the middle of the night as well. I don't sleep for very long, and I can't really do too much in the night when the rest of the family is sleeping. Our washing machine is in the basement, so it doesn't wake anyone up with the noise. I also go down to Walmart a lot in the night because the store is so empty and I can get in and out of there much quicker than during the daytime. I figure if I can't sleep I might as well make good use of the time.

When I owned my own home I did the same at any hours of the night and would not disturb anyone. Now that we are in an apartment, I really can't as it would disturb the neighbor with the noise.
I miss those days as I could get plenty done at night since I am such a multi tasker. LOL
