I dunno about you but what is wrong with this picture?!?! A volunteer bell ringer leaves to take a break and someone steals the red kettle with donations in it? Seriously?!?!? It's a charity and one no less that helps ALOT of people in community. I know many people are having hard times and some for the first time in a decade or two but this is truly sad.

Goes to show that poverty is still present. Lol. That someone is as needy and poor as a rat. He probably could swallow his pride much easier now that he had done that. There are certain bounds that if we crossed, is hard to get back in to. The same happened here, someone stole a donation box from RedCross. These people's boundaries are too thin and their values are too brittle that they're able to do that.

That's when you swallow your pride and ask various organizations for help. You know stand in line @ the food pantries, apply for welfare, whatever you need to do to keep things going. Stealing is still stealing no matter the circumstance. But typically theft increases this time of year with the pressures of regular bills plus holiday gifts and heating bills.

Yeah well apparently they don't have that option that's why they stole the red kettle.

I had a few friends tell me about that a few days ago, they live close to Milwaukee, WI. That is terrible! I feel as you, I understand how bad the economy is, but stealing a Salvation Army donation bucket?? That is absolutely the lowest a person can go. Usually you hear about how people donate thousands of dollars in those buckets. Ever year, there is always someone donating a TON of cash, putting it right into the bucket, and you always see it on the news. It is terrible that you now have to hear that someone stole the entire bucket!

Sadly a few weeks earlier at this same wal-mart a woman got adgitated and shoved a 100yr old greeter. Partly it's how things are getting in that area. But still it's not something one should even phantom during any time of hardship.

It seems that every year there are more people ripping off charities that help others in the community. It is not the people who are in NEED who do this, but people in GREED. Sometimes the results are an upsurge in giving to make up for the loss, but that is a shame.

That has happened all over and it's a terrible thing for a slimeball to do. I think they made it policy, at least here, to take the kettles with them when they take their break. And they are locked with padlocks so it would be hard to get into them quickly.

Yeah I don't know what their policy is. I've never been a bell ringer but I do see plenty of kettles hanging w/o being attended. So I dunno, I assume they leave empty ones there hoping for donations when no one is ringing?

This may be sad, but it is easy for me to place myself in the thief's situation.
As desperate I can see where that kettle could be regarded as a gift from God rather then something to steal. Shouldn't the jkeeper of the kettle hold some responsibily here? Blessings

I dunno I always thought the kettle was held onto the stand via a lock as well as a lock on the kettle but I could be wrong. I dunno if they are allowed to take the kettle with them if they go get something to eat & potty break or not?
To me a blessing is a holiday card with a check in it & paying my bills on time.
Many people are desperate between the economy and culture. But it still isn't right to steal. You do without. And odds are someone who did this may not of needed the money but the charge out of getting away with it. Hard to say exactly til they catch the person.

It does not surprise one bit. See a few years ago someone stole baby Jesus from the mainger at our church. For the life of me I can't see anyone enjoying Baby Jesus, knowing very well it is stolen.
Same with any form of stealing, how can anyone enjoy stealing anything then enjoy from it. Karma comes to mind.

Those pranks go on here as well with the stealing of various out door decor. I don't know what the point is other than to be disrespectful of other peoples property.
I think they get a "high" from doing wrong & not getting caught. I think it would bother most people to steal no matter why they did it initally for.

I feel very sorry for the Salvation Army having $450 stolen from them. The volunteer just left to have a short break meanwhile a criminal gets the money. That nasty person that stole the charity money should be ashamed of himself or herself. Some people in America are homeless and they rely on food given from charity workers. The whole seems to be in a recession. A burglar that takes from rich people that have lots of lovely times is a horrid criminal but a criminal that steals from seemed to be the lowest of the low. The homeless people are much higher in value than that such a horrid criminal.

Frankly, nothing surprises me anymore! I wonder why the guy left it when he went on break... thinking people would donate while he was gone? Yeah, like that is going to happen! He should have taken it with him or left it empty. You can't trust people anymore.

3Snuggle Bunnies things have come to a pretty pass when they steal from the salvation army for Gods sakes. Also a donation box full of a lot of money for our church was pried off the wall and broken open and that was for the churches fund for helping people out of work. thoughless people to bite the hand that helps them. by the way Garden Froce right now is being pounded with rain.it looks like a cloud burst and so noisy its just pounding down and its still going even as it looks like the sun is trying to get through. I have never seen anthing like this in twenty eight years now its getting scary. Noah's ark anyone?
