Climate and how it affects travel

I live in Europe and the spring is from March to May. The summer is from June to August. Autumn is from September to November. These are the best times to visit my home country. The rest of the months have cold weather. The best month for weather is usually August but it can be July. The worst weather is usually in December and January. In the South of Europe, like Greece for example, the tourist season is May to October with high prices from mid July to the end of August due to the school holidays. This year I visited Canada in June and July because it is the summer then. Then last year I visited South Africa in January due to it being summer there. When I traveled to Belize a few years ago I got it wrong and got dull weather in November. When it is December to April there that is the dry season. What is the climate like in your home country? Which time of the year has the nicest weather? Have you been to a country that has a hot climate? Have you been to a country that has a cold climate? Do you have a favorite month of the year for traveling?

It's usually always sunny in my hometown, maybe just a little wet during the winter and spring. I've been to Japan during the summer and I don't ever want to do that again. It's really humid and sticky. I've never traveled anywhere when it was cold, but I am curious what it's like since I still haven't seen snow fall or white towns. It sounds like a dreamy place in my head.

Hello Lore. We have snow at the moment and it was lovely to have a white Christmas because it looks very scenic. My sister has some Canadian family members visiting here for Christmas and New Year. They find the weather similar to that they have in Ottawa. I would love to go to Japan and I imagine April would be less sticky than one of the summer months.

Really, climate affects one's travelling a lot!Depending on climate, one's mood transforms from a bad one to a good one and also from a good one to a bad one!I love rains and according to me,the weather which takes place in the sky just before the rains are gonaa happen is the best weather to travel anywhere!!

I remember my time in the Northern Territory in Australia and it rained very much indeed. There were many puddles all over the place and walking along the side walk some cars splashed me.

Hi maxi, thanks for the information of weather condition of Europe. If I ever visit to Europe I shall go there in July-August. According to your information it is the best season to visit Europe. Indian Sub-Continent is in tropical region. In India May - June is Summer,July-August is Rainy season,September -October is Autumn, November-January is Winter and February-April is Spring. For European people November to February is the best period to visit India. Indian Summer is unbearable and Rainy Season is boring.

Hi there Bhanusab, I am glad that you liked hearing about what the weather is like over here in Europe. You are wise to say that you would choose July or August to go there should you plan a trip to there. At the moment I think that December would be a fantastic time to visit India. When a child has term time from September to July August would give the traveler to India less ideal weather: rain.

I'm in Minnesota (of the US) and I typically like to think our best months here are around May-June and again from September-October, depending on the year though. I don't think many people travel here because we aren't really a big tourist destination - the most we can brag about having is "the Mall of America" in a local suburb and my favorite - "the biggest ball of twine in Minnesota" LMAO. We are pretty boring. Yep. When I went over to Sweden, I went in April (end of April) and it was snwoy, rainy, and a solid 20-30 degrees. Probably picked the wrong month..But too late to turn back now LOL. Speaking of climate, I actually got stuck there for a while longer due to those volancic ashes a while back there were in the northern european airspace. So that affected my travel quite a bit. Spent way too much time in an airport and I honestly plan on never going through that again! Agh! lol. Good discussion! Whereabouts in Europe are you??

I live in England in a county in the South West called Somerset. I have heard that people from far away fly into the Mall of America which probably has wonderful shopping. It was very cold when you traveled to Sweden. I am very sorry that you suffered delay due to the volcanic ash. I wish you better journeys in the future.

Climate really affects traveling that's why in most countries they have high and low season in the tourism industry. I was in Germany in the months of July, August, September and 1st week of October, July/August was the warmest and was perfect for me especially in the southern part. September/October I was in the north and it was rainy. It was May/June when I visited England and Scotland. I stayed in the northeast which is much colder than the south but still I need to go out to see the places, somehow there were days that i get sunshine. It was May until November when I visited US. I was in Southern California and weather was just fine in May and June but July till September was really hot and it was September when I visited Las Vegas, we were not able to go out during the day. I visited Washington State in October and the bay area in California. Weather in Washington was really cold for me but in the bay area was just perfectly cool. I live in the middle east in different countries. In 2002 I was in Qatar, 2003 in Dubai and 2004 till 2007 in Oman and now in 2010 I'm in Oman again. They have only summer and winter here. Winter in Doha, Qatar was much colder compared to the winter here in Oman but in summer it could reach until 50 degrees centigrade. You won't be able to stay long outside. Winter season is the high season in the tourism here. In my home country Philippines, we only have two seasons namely the dry and wet season. The best time to visit is from November to March, these are the months which has less rain. January to March has no rain at all, very seldom that it will rain in January. High season in the tourism is during the dry season. I don't have favorite month to travel as the time of travel depends on the season of your chosen destination. If you want to visit middle east, summer is not a good time but in Europe summer is the best time.

Thanks for your excellent response. I find the Middle East very hot and dry in the summer months. In August one year I traveled to Israel and Jordan. It is very hot in Jerusalem but even hotter in Eilat. It is very interesting to hear that you havelived in many of the Middle East countries. Each time I have been to California it was considering the weather in Australia and New Zealand. I have been there to Los Angeles in February, November and March. I am very keen to visit the Philippines so hot and dry would suit me the best. I would go sometime between November and March.

I am from Hong Kong and it has a sub-tropical climate. Therefore, it is always humid there. There is never snow in Hong Kong and this is why I have never encountered snow till I went to study in the UK. The UK is probably the coldest place I have been to and it was really lucky for me that it did not snow when I leave for my holiday in Hong Kong. Otherwise, I would have to wait in the airport like refugee. The city has the nicest weather in autumn because it is neither hot nor cold and it is drier and it is the best season to go for a picnic outdoor, visiting the scarce natural environments in Hong Kong. The hottest place that I have been to is Thailand and Malaysia and I had a even stronger feeling of heatstroke than the others as I went there in August. I think I like to go travelling most in summer because I have got a long summer holiday and I do not have to bring a lot of clothings while travelling. Yet, I would also like to try travelling in the winter and go to somewhere which has snow, probably switzerland as I have never ski before.

When I was in Hong Kong the weather was hot and humid. It was July and I was on my way down to Western Australia. I am delighted to hear that it didn't snow for you when you were in England waiting at the airport for you to fly to Hong Kong. If you went to Switzerland in the winter you would need layers of warm clothing. On the top you might have a hat and a scarf with your warm coat.

Here in the 'Frozen North', we get quite amused when our southern neighbours get a wee bit of snow and the news and newspapers get very excited about it, and it makes headlines for weeks, whereas our snow problems usually get very little mention (might have been slightly different last month when our main Motorway was closed for several days).. I was on a cruise to Norway last May, and it snowed several days, but that is probably normal there. April in Scotland can be quite warm some years, although others can be cold and wet.
