I'm surprised it came in already!

I ordered a 6 month subscription to Sports Illustrated through my children's fundraiser a few months back. I picked up the certificate in October or November, but did not send it in right away as I knew I wanted to give the subscription to my oldest son for Christmas.
Well I kept forgetting about the darn thing, until a few weeks ago I finally went online to confirm the subscription. They said the first issue would come in 4-8 weeks. So, I pretty much knew it wasn't coming by Christmas.
I figured I'd fill out a card for my son that explained he'd be getting 6 months worth of the magazine and that the first issue would arrive in the mail soon. That alone would have made him plenty excited (he's 13 and a sports nut!).
Well, the first issue arrived today! I mean, perfect timing! Now I can wrap the magazine and include a small note stating he has a 6 month subscription. He's going to love it! Don't you think?
Have you ever been surprised that something came sooner than expected, and at such a perfect time too?

That is awesome that the first issue of the subscription came in just in time for Christmas. I don't think that you could have had more perfect timing if you had attempted to have it. I've never ordered anything that came in significantly quicker than I expected it to. However, there have been times that I've ordered items that came in much later than when I expected them and there have even been a few times that I've forgotten about things that I've ordered that will finally come in and it is like a surprise for me to get them.

We have decided we'll most likely be doing most of our Christmas shopping next year online. I've been inspired by many of the members here on Mylot to start saving up points on different sites for Amazon cards and doing most of my shopping that way. I've never ordered off Amazon, so I hope it ships in a timely fashion and the items are exactly what I expect them to be!

I'm glad he got it. I know my nieces and nephew had sold subscriptions for school and they never came. And the school would not do anything about it.
I think if your son is a sports nut I'm sure he'd like it. Not just to read it but for the pictures as well.

That would be so frustrating! Our school uses a pretty good fundraiser, though we rarely order. Being a small town everyone nearby has a kid selling the same stuff, or a niece or nephew or something, you know. So it's just us and FIL who orders from the kids and we can't afford much. This year we were sure to get something from each kid. I got some wrapping paper and the subscription.. came in handy!

I am glad it came in quickly. I think they know that people give subscriptions for Christmas and they have extra help in for the holiday busy season. At least that is how I would do it. He will love it. It is a very "grown up" type gift, but one that I am sure he will enjoy, because it recognizes his interests.

We debated getting him Sports Ill. for Kids.. but I think he's too old for that one, that would be more for my 8 year old if he were interested in sports. I think it's perfect for him, he's always reading the sports section of the newspaper and if he sees a SI at a doctor's office or something that's what you find him reading. Thankfully we had the option of not getting the swimsuit edition!!

Hey kats! That is so cool! He is so going to be thrilled when
he sees that gift! Now that you mentioned it I think that a
"certain someone" in my "family" would have love the same gift.
Wish I'd thought of it! Oh, well, maybe next year! I know your
son is going to love it and the timing couldn't have been any
better! Wish I could see his face. Take a picture, will ya?

I wouldn't have thought of it if it weren't for my kids' fundraiser. And it only cost me $20! Next year when the fundraiser comes around I'll let you know.. Paypal me $20 and I'll order the subscription for you and send you the online code to activate it once it comes in.
