What is the best or the most interesting job you have had? Which things did you like about that job? Which job has been the hardest or the most challenging? Why? I have had many different jobs, but I especially like jobs where I work with people. I have worked in kindergardens, in nursing homes, in home health care teams and group homes for people with special needs. I once worked in a group home for people who were deaf and blind, and that was a big challenge for me, because I wasn't familiar with tactile sign language when I started, and it was difficult for me to communicate with the residents in the beginning. I bought a sign language dictionary and my co-workers also helped me learn the most common words, but it took me a while to get used to that kind of work. My favourite job was in the home health care team, and I have spent more time there than I did in my other jobs. I really like the idea of meeting many different people with different lifestyles and different needs. I liked to talk to the people I met and I liked listening to their stories.

Hi Porcospino, My most interesting job is my present job, teaching students at an elementary school. I love teaching and seeing all the different learning styles the students have. Not only do I enjoy their different learning styles, I enjoy watching their different personality and how their interact with others around them. It is a rewards position and I feel privileged to serve this bright stars of our future.

When I was younger elementary school teacher was my dream job. I like children and I was sure that if I ever became a teacher I would like to work in an elementary school and not in a high school where the students are older. You wrote about the students' learning styles, personalities and interaction, I think it sounds very interesting. I never became a teacher, but I have been working with people in other ways and that has also been interesting.

Children come to us in the purest form, it is the environment that spoils the child, literally and figuratively speaking. I enjoy doing all I can to keep them in their purest form, innocent.

I had this job where I interviewed people face-to-face for their opinion regarding a political issues. It's great cause you got to hear people's varied opinion that reflects the true picture of the society. Sometimes it's hard to get them talking at the start but once you've gained their trust, they started talking. My last job was as a classroom teacher. Oh, I have fun with my students. Thankfully they still remember me after they were out of school having their own job and family. My present job allows me to deal with lots of people older than me and I'm beginning to love it!

Interviewing different people sounds like an interesting job, I have always found it interesting to meet and talk to different kinds of people. When I was working in the home health care team I also experienced people who didn't talk much in the beginning, but once they got to know me most of them became more open. Sometimes it was a challenge to gain their trust, but it made me happy when to experience the change when they got more open after a while.

Sounds like you have an interesting job of all. I like to work with people with special needs, or I can work with Children, like in the Kindergarden. I like kids, but I never have a chance to do such dream. I work in a restaurant before, and work at the kitchen. It wasn't easy, but I was there for while. I met different people, and learn a lot from them too.

I also think that I have had some interesting jobs. I sometimes miss working with people with special needs or in kindergarten. I love children and I like spend time with them, play with them and teach them new things. In one of the kindergartens where I worked there were a lot of children from other countries and I learned something about other cultures and countries that way. I have never worked in a restaurant. I once applied for a job as a waitress, but I didn't get it.

My career background is administrative/secretarial in nature, though I worked in different companies and handled different tasks I was never given the opportunity to be given the exact title for the nature of job that i was exactly doing. It comes to a point that I got bored with desk job and since I learned foreign languages for fun, a friend advised me to work in the tourism industry as a Tour Guide. It is freelance in nature and one must have a third language to get more job assignments. Having a third language is a big advantage as very few Tour Guides has 3rd language skills. Tour Guiding is the most interesting job and the hardest job I ever did. Interesting in the sense that....I meet different kinds of people, different status in the society, different nationalities (however, most of them are Germans), different mentality and different culture. I give them information about my country, my people, my culture and our way of life... in the same way, I also learned a lot from my guests as they also tell me stories about their countries. When my guests leave my country, it never ends there, they commnunicate with me and they become my friends. Some of them comes back and they will request for me to be their guide again and some recommends me to their friends who will visit my country. It gives me a feeling of satisfaction for every happy guest who leaves my country. In addition, the nature of the job is traveling, sometimes a day tour, sometimes 5-day tour, sometimes 14-day tour. I accompany the guests in different tourist destinations, I am given the same meal they have, I'm given the same accommodation they have, and I get paid, and most of the time I get tips that would suffice for my day to day expenses hence my professional fee is saved. Also, in tour guiding, there is no age discrimination, the older you get in the industry the more reliable you are and more tour operators will hire your services. I could say that this is also the hardest in the sense that not all guests are the same. Individuals has different characterisctics, not everybody is nice, some are are difficult and some are nasty. I get guests with these kind of characters. I experienced one time at the airport, the guest told me "I speak English and I know the city, I don't need your services." I replied to the lady...."You paid for my services so whether you like it or not I will go with you and bring you to your hotel." The job is hard as I can not be harsh on them since they are guests and I am hosting my country. I need to give nasty reply in the nicest way. There are also guests that don't listen when I talk, some will just stare outside the window and appear not to be listening. Aside from guest characters, there are weather conditions that has to be dealt with. In the mountains, rain is frequent even if it is no longer rainy season. I experienced a huge landslide. A big portion of the mountain was ripped off and the road was blocked, as if there's a hill emerged in the middle of the road, no vehicles could pass. The mud was so slippery and we have all our luggages...we need to cross over the mountain of mud. These difficult situations I encountered were indeed challenging. I feel happy if at the end of the tour I was able to please the difficult guests and after coming down from the mountain, everybody is safe and satisfied.

Thank you very much for your long response I enjoyed reading your description of your job as a tour guide. I found it especially interesting, because it is one of the jobs that once considered myself as I really like travelling. It must be very interesting to meet people from different parts of society and people from different countries and I think it is great that you are also able to learn something from the guests and learn about their countries. I can imagine that it can be a challenge to deal with all sorts of guests including guests that are difficult or unfriendly. I have experienced the same thing in some of my jobs in the nursing homes and in the home health care teams. Some people are very hard to please, but on the other hand I get a sense of satisfaction or happiness when I am able to deal with the difficult residents in a good way, because it is not always easy.

I like jobs that are challenging and I like jobs where I have the chance to learn something new and develop new skills. I have had jobs that weren't challenging like jobs where I had to clean people's homes. It was easy, but also a bit boring. On the other hand I need money every month and if I can't find a job that I find interesting or challenging, I will take another kind of job at least for a while.
