I think Facebook is stupid.

Facebook has gotten out of control, as far as I am concerned. Not so much about what it does, but how people have decided to use it. It has gotten stupid. Case in point. For Christmas, my brother took my daughter and her daughter to Tiffany's & Co to buy her a bracelet for christmas. (yes, the real Tiffany's in LA!) So after the wonderful day, I text my daughter (I hate texting too, but she won't call or return a call to me...she is the texting queen!) Anyway... I text her and said "so what did she choose for her bracelet?" My daughter texts back.."I posted a pic on Facebook". Good grief.. I'm her mother! We live 2 streets apart, I babysit all the time and all I get is a "check facebook" response? Why not, "she got a gorgous Tiffany&Co sterling silver shopping bag charm" or something like that? Why "go check facebook"?!! Why couldn't I call her or she me and just TELL ME what she got! Remember. that old fashioned past time called "CONVERSATION"!?!??!?! I'm sorry, but Facebook is just stupid!

Don't say facebook is stupid. everything in this world has some advantages as well as some disadvantages. So in case of facebook too there are some disadvantages Like if you can't send lots of friends request at the same time. Also if you receive lots of friends request your account may get banned. Happy New Year.

I find it hard to believe that anyone actually has the tons of "friends" that their wall says they have. I have seen some with 100's as "friends". One person can't possibly have the time to address each friend or each friends post/wall etc. Yeah, I know advantages/disadvantages..but in this case as well as MySPace etc...they are abused and over used and even neglected as to many people put their "lives" on their facebook and then wonder why they get stalked or someone does something to them as a result of what they read on their "friends" wall. I say..keep it small and to the point and it'd be a nice thing to have

I kind of agree, as I canceled my Facebook account a long time ago over security breaches and now people are always sending me links, but you have to have an account to open them. Now how dumb is that? I love texting, but when you are a few yards apart it is silly not to go eyeball to eyeball. YEAH!

All a vicious circle! I hate it when my family is together or just one or two of us.. and they are all sitting there texting others. I'm like...Hey..I'm right here! What about me?

I know. I found out this week that some of the time my daughter is playing some game on her cell while we are sitting there supposedly for family time. They come to visit and she plays cell phone games...what's wrong with this picture? Now she has her daughter hooked on it, however, it is also used for punishment..."no cell phone for a week". Never thought I'd live to hear that! For us it was "go to your room and don't come out till I tell you to".~

I don't think so! your blaming this to Facebook to whatever happen to you. I think the stupid here is your daughter,.Why did she have to post it on Facebook instead of telling you personally or texting you. Why don't you talk to her about this. Maybe your daughter need a special attention.

She has lots of friends and I am here anytime she needs me or wants to be around and she knows that. I think she is just caught in the loop of technology and the "gotta have it" syndrome. It was stupid as it took longer for her to post it on Facebook than it would have for her to just send the pic on the cell phone...llike she did with 2 other pictures while there...one in front of the store, the other with GD holding the shopping bag aafter the purchase. Why not add the charm pic at that time? But no, gotta do facebook. I have noticed that she has 67 friends on FB...she posted that pic and only four of them responded...1-3 word comments and mine was one of the four! Woowhoo for Facebook!

That is so sad, I agree that the way they use facebook and cell phones for that matter has gotten completely out of control. I myself do use facebook but very rarely and only to communicate with friends who do not live in the same country as me as we can not afford to call each other. I do hope that you and your daughter can get some more quality time together and she can remember the good old days of old fashioned conversation because that is the best way to communicate.

Phone (landlines) are not free to call anywhere...I pay $30 a month for that. Call anywhere in the USA, talk as long as you like. No more long distance charges! How easy and fun is that!!! And even if you do spend for a cell phone...still, same thing...one price for all calls anytime. In your case, yes Facebook can be a good thing, but as you say...it has gotten completely out of control. I long for the good old days of conversation and a nice hand written letter in my snail mail box on the curb!!!

Well, I admit facebook is crazy for all those silly games and viral messages and such, for sure, then you have people who you don't know hassling you to accept thier friendships then inviting you to play these silly games, and you get so tired of seeing status about how many times someone's picked their noses or if they had an itch! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr............. Yet, Facebook is strangely addictive, without it you won't see the latest photos of family and friends so quickly, and keep in touch with the younnger generation of your families because the younger generation simply doesn't know life without that metal box filled with wires called computers..... *sigh* What ever did happen to good old-fashioned family time together and telephone conversations and quiet meals together without the weird, diabolical ringtones buzzing throughout the mealtimes...? I really, really miss that...yet here we are, in front of our own metal boxes full of wires, typing and facebooking away...

same like both of you.....i really miss that time a lot.even if we still have our landline phone yet no one calls me.just for the other members of my family.one thing noticed about these technology effect is we talk less and txting more with everyone around us. we will feel empty and not safe when we forgot to bring mobile phones and some yearning so much of attention till everything they do they want everyone knows about it.so sad and i don't like it~

And I don't understand why people want everyone to know their every move! Don't they want any personal privacy? Don't they want any "me" time? I have many times nearly hit someone cause they walked out into the parking lot...while tapping away on their cell phone or game device...and didn't even lift their head or eyes to see if a couple hundred pounds might be approaching! They just walk out and expect cars to stop. And I also wonder...why does everyone want to be "Bothered" by constantly getting texts and constant comments on Facebook that are not but a couple words, often about nothing? I see my daughters and the time it takes to post something for the return of idol 3 word comments...I could sure find something else to do with my time!

they just want to get some attention from others.ops, not some but more than that.that is the way people get connected nowadays and they misuse it as well..mark is really 'brilliant' to make this thing out till it become like this.since i have a mobile phone, anything i wanna say and write in private i will just call or text that person.do not have to use facebook since both things have the similar reason to be invented and use.only get to facebook if i really want to know whats they up to.something like spying??i do not care.they get thing published then feel mad when people stalking and spying??hm..just kidding i am not that mentall-ill person to do so.but we give the chance for this thing to happen and we really need to be careful with it.what's your opinion??

Yeah, they think it is so great and wonderful and cool to tell everyone their business and all, yet get mad when someone takes that from them. If you don't want to give it, don't offer it! Facebook has just gotten out of control. They will put anything and everything on facebook, yet if something legal happens, they cry "invasion of privacy" to get off the rap!

well perhaps for some, Facebook is indeed stupid.... But its a way to pass the time... Its a way to keep in touch with friends and family who are far apart... I am from the Philippines and my brother, sister, mom and some cousins are in Canada and America, at Facebook we are able to communicate, share photos and experiences even though we are far apart. But if people (like your daughter, perhaps) who use facebook as their only means of communication then perhaps that is not a good thing. yes I agree, people should still talk and socialize personally,it is what makes people a lot more saner but facebook does have its uses if you choose to use it wisely.. just like any other media like the cellular phone, IM, BBM and the likes. ^_^

I don't see how Facebook is stupid because of that. You might think your daughter made a stupid thing, but she could have told you to check any other social network, like myspace, for example. I think she probably wanted you to see how did it exactly look like, as even if you describe it very well, our imagination often can't picture reality, and when you see the real thing it's often different from what you expected.

Yeah, they are all alike. I think they are so over used, mis-used and people are forgetting how to "talk" in anything other than abbreviated words (from texting) and short sentences back and forth (facebook). In this case..since she had the picture and I didn't mention before, she did send me a pic on the cell phone of GD standing in front of the store and with the shopping bag with her purchse in it in her hand...she sent those two to me on the cell phone...why not the charm? Kind of like she did multiple work for a simple chore. But to continue the saga... I looked at her facebook wall...there the photo is..but with an up close shot..it was blurry... and of her 67 friends...only 4 (me being one) have made a comment about it! SO why post it to those that don't care?

Facebook is definitely not stupid, it's a convenience. Without it you wouldn't have seen what your daughter's bracelet is yet. Happy MyLotting.

I saw it today when they came to visit. But that isn't the point. Why couldn't she have at least texted me what it was? Why did I have to turn on my PC, log onto facebook and search for it? I didn't do that. I knew I'd see them today so I just waited to do it the intelligent human being way. Facebook is not convenient.

Facebook is a great way to let the whole world know what you're up to! I'll be the first to admit that I post all of my business on there! I love it! I talk to many people I would never get a chance to talk to if it wasn't for facebook and I tell my mom the same thing LOL! It's not stupid it's fun!

I don't want the whole world to know what I am doing! I don't know why people do want that! Why do you want everyone to know everything about you or your business? What ever happened to privacy? Don't you want your "personal space", you privacy? And conversations aren't that great on facebook as there isn't room for much and then ALL can see it and fights start and misunderstandings. But to each his own, as they say.
