New Year in train

India
January 2, 2011 6:27am CST
I boarded train on 31st December 2010, 9am with my wife and reached Hyderabad at 9am of January 2011. So we entered the NEW YEAR in the train. One thing I marked, the number of passengers was less. There may be various reasons though; first ‘it is an air-conditioned compartment, little costly; second winter and chilly weather, third, faith of people. Out of these three, the faith part was important, many think, if you travel on the first day of the year, then you will be travelling throughout the year. Well for me it doesn’t make any difference, because I used to do a lot of travel in connection of my lecturing, paper presentation, research work etc. All in this compartment kept awoke till midnight, my wife distributed sweets to all in our section. A young couple, who were on a honeymoon trip, sang some songs. They wanted to light crackers, fireworks, but later understood the risk. Happy New Year wishes started pouring in the form of SMS and phone calls. How was the first day of the new-year for you? Do you believe that if you travel on the first day, you will keep travelling around the year? Please share. Thank you so much in advance. Professor ‘Bhuwan’. . Cheers have a lucky day ahead.

Nevr herd about traveling but they say if you sleep before the new years in you will be asleep the next year also SO every one else here will sleep next year and me and son in law will watch tv and welcome the next year togethr for we were the only ones to make it.

Hi Professor! Happy New Year to you and your wonderful family! I hope that it is one of joy and prosperity and of course good health! I have never heard about the "traveling thing". I am always home on New Year's. I don't like crowds and usually like to be at home relaxing. My bf and I just had a nice Roast Beef dinner and watched tv, although I was here online wishing my friends who were here too Happy New Year! It was fun because some friends were already finished celebrating and I was still counting down the hours!lol

Hello there Professor. It is excellent that you and your wife traveled on a train leaving on New Year's Eve 2010 and arriving on New Year's Day 2011. I think that traveling on the last day of one year and the first day of the current year is very special indeed. So therefore it is likely to mean that you will have a fantastic year. You are going to go off traveling somewhere lovely this year I think. I stayed at home on New Year's Eve and then on New Year's Day some friends visited at just after 9 in the morning. Therefore we all got up early on that bank holiday.

Hello my friend Professor2010 Ji, So nice of your immediate comments. In fact my hubby is very much fond of making and recording many statistics. Travel is one out of many . We have alraedy planned to travel to SBC from CNB on 02-Apr, then my hubby will trabvel on 10-Apr to JBL and back to SBC on 13th from JBL. He gets special enjoyment while travelling . If you watch minutely, we covered a total distance of 28832 Kms and combined we paid more than Rs. 40000/- in all in the yrear 2010 . Take catre. Thanks. May God bless You and have a great time.

First of all, wish you very happy and prosperous new year 2011. I do not believe in this, it was holiday for me on 1st Jan but that does not mean I will not be working for the rest of the days in this year. We should do good everyday but do not think that first day is indicator of good or bad, it's our work and life that makes happy or sad. Thank You for sharing

I don't know about the "what you do on the first dictates what you'll do for the rest of the year", but it sounds wonderful to be able to influence your life that way! By the way, I hope your passenger trains are better than ours. They stink and are not well maintained at all. Have a happy, joy filled year!

That is an interesting concept. I never thought of it that way. I love to travel and traveled most of the years before. I don't plan on traveling a lot this year, but you never know. My new year's was not special. I did an online Castle marathon (Castle is a TV show here in the U.S.), so I watched that back to back and then read and slept. My friends back home were watching the fireworks and sending me text messages, and I received emails from family, but pretty much nothing else. I generally don't make a big deal of it, as that shows how quickly time is passing, how old we are getting, and how much still to be done, that never got done in the previous years...does that make sense? Lol.

hello Prof, That's a good adventure, new year inside a moving train. Well, for me,i am at work when the clock strikes 12 of January 1,2011. If we look at it,it just happened that the day or the year ended by Decemeber 31,and starts on the 1st of January. But,who actually knows the real time and date of a new year or new beginning? So,January 1 is same day as the days of the whole year. It might be very special...yah somehow special as the beginning day of the year. So,i spend the new year at work..it mean i will be spending my whole year at work (hahaha) I guess everyone spends their day at work...at least on weekdays and rest day for weekends Have a good day through out the year dear bhai

I've always heard that whatever you are doing on the first day of the year is what you will be doing throughout the year, but I also know that this isn't the case at all. I know that we were battling some plumbing problems on New Year's Day and though we weren't able to fix it that day, we were able to fix them on the second day and we haven't been dealing with plumbing problems since then. I don't think there is anything at all wrong with traveling on the first day of the year.
