It was written in a health magazine that drinking cola is not good for the health. Effect of excessive drinking of it, range from muscle weakness and paralysis. It also triggers diabetes.
However, given those side effects doesn't diminish my liking to drinking cola specially after a big hearty meal. I like its taste because for me it really compliments the taste of the food i have eaten. Though, i only drink it only once in a while, because i know the side effects of drinking too much of it. So instead, i sometimes would drink iced tea or shakes. But shakes are expensive compared to cola.
Do you like drinking cola too?

I like drinking tea. Sometimes i think it is the habit make us like certain kind of drink or food. Take me for example, i have never drinked coffee before college, so i never think it is tastey. And because i have been drinked tea from i was a small kid, i like tea very much. Thank godness, there is still no report saying tea is bad for health.
Since it is common sense that drinking too much colas will do harm to our health, i think you should try to make a change. But as you said, you have realized its side effect and not drink it too often. I think it is ok. But you can have try for other kinds of drinks, for example, tea.

Yes, i drink tea too. When we eat on a Chinese restaurant they would usually give you tea to drink after the meal. IT feels refreshing to drink it after a heavy meal.
Have a nice day!

I am not exactly a diabetic though I have very close relative who are afflicted with diabetes. Because of this, my mother forbade me to drink any kind of carbonated sugar to lessen my chances of acquiring the disease. Besides, I thew that stuff away because the beverage grates my throat every time I drink it. I become accustomed to water or juice as alternatives. I agree that shakes can fetch a price but I like the naturalness of my drink from time to time.

That's very good of you to follow the advise of your mother. As the saying goes "Mothers knows best".
Keep it up!

Cut me and I bleed COKE.
Despite the knowledge and the constant warning of the hazards of too much intake of this drinks, I just can't seem to get enough of it. I did consider stopping as my new year's resolution but all the celebrations prior to the ending of 2010 offered softdrinks, my will is proven weak with regards to this, and so I just marked out that one out of the list.
I just love coke.
Still, I am really considering on stopping. For now, I am minimizing consumption, controlling the urge. Good luck to me!

Just minimize the frequency of drinking cola. I think, it won't hurt if you drink once in while .

I love drinking cola too, and like you I am also aware of its harmful effects that is why I don't drink too much of it. I only drink it like, 2-5 times in a month. Sometimes, I drink the diet coke- doesn't take that good though.

I don't like the taste of diet coke either. So, when i drink cola i want it to be the regular one. Anyway, i got to drink it once in a while. I guess that won't hurt my health. LOL

Oh, dear, we used to be bad for drinking cola/pop as a family, at one time, we were consuming a 2-litre bottle of pop per day between me, Hubby, and the 2 kids. Sad thing is, that we didn't even realise it until Hubby started to complain more often where the pop going, and so I started to monitor it. A few weeks later, I put down my foot and insisted no more pop, and that it can trigger diabetes, as you mmentioned above.
Now pop is a rare treat.
It is so easy to get into the habit of drinking pop, it seems to me the only thirst-quencher that quenches my thirst...grrrr....but diabetes is rampant in both sides of my biological family, so I'm told, and I am getting up there, in fact, the same age that my biological family members started getting them :-(
So my love affair with the carbonated elixir has been offically ended, with only a few illicit rendezvous when the urge is too strong......

I have to kick that habit, too. There are just times that I crave the drink so much I imagine how pleasant it feels downing it after a meal.
But, it's a new year, and I'm admitting that I terribly need to change my ways. So, for this year, I'll lessen drinking colas. And drink more water. Cheers!

I enjoy cola and drink it more often than I should. I try to substitute juice or tea and it just isn't the same, but I make myself do it anyway. One of these days I'm going to quit drinking cola completely. I'm sure I'll feel better and may lose weight, too.

Just drink it in moderation and occasionally only. I guess that will not add to the weight .

I have always drank diet soda, regular soda has always been too sweet for me, but there have been times in my life when I have been pretty addicted to it. I only drink it now when I am out to eat. I don't drink it at home anymore. Even diet soda can be unhealthy for the body if you drink to much, so I don't drink it as much as I used to. I drink mostly flavored water or Crystal Light Sugar free drink mix and water a lot of the time now, and of course some milk every day for calcium.

I do sometimes have a big bottle at home and i drink it whenever i had a very hearty meal. It stays on the fridge for even more than a week because i do not drink them always anyways.

I have a really bad pop addiction. I gain a lot of weight just from all the pop that I drink. I know because if I go for a week or two without drinking any I will automatically lose like 10 pounds just from not drinking pop. I am not a diet now so I have sworn off pop for the time being. It is only the 2nd day though and I am craving it so bad, but I can't give in, my belly has gotten too big and I need to lose it. So pop has to go bye bye for now.

There is a lot of caffeine in cola drinks. Too much of this is not good for anyone at any time. cola drinks should be enjoyed in moderation as should anything we consume. @nereidiane024 (292)

i am working in a beverage company, and one of our product of course our carbonated drinks (cola). in our sales office, we have the privilege to drink but with limitations. though, its free, i sometimes dislike to drink so what i do is drink some of our products that was in orange flavors, but mostly i prefer to drink water that cola. when i tend to drink cola, i make sure that i drink lots of water for that day to lessen the sugar in my body system and to avoid building of diabetes. :)
