I had to sell my engagement ring when we didn't have any money for food. The man who was my husband was lazy and didn't want to work. We had no food and I had to sell my ring. I was so angry at him for making me do it, but even angrier when he wanted me to give him some of the money for booze.

Did you ever replace your ring? I was promised a new ring, but never got it.

If I had to do it over I would have sold the ring to my mother-in-law. That way she would have realized how bad off things were for us.

I would never sell my ring for food ........ it represents far more than the value of food or anything

It was the only item that we owned that was of any value. Unfortunately I had no other choice. What really made me angry was him wanting part of the money for selfish reasons.

That is terrible, but sometimes things happen and you can't control them, so you have to do things, What a jerk, I was married to a cheater and he stole my engagement ring and gave it to his new girlfriend, but he got what he deserved, she cheated on him and pawned the ring.

I would sell my engagement for food. But then after kicking his a$$ for asking for money for booze, I would then kick his a$$ out the door! I bet you were angry and you had every right too!!!!But don't worry...karma will catch up to him and he will pay 3 fold.

Sometimes you have to do things that you don't want to do. I think in that situation I would have went to a relative too. My mom would have given me money and not taken the ring. I had an ex who was similar to yours, except he had a good paying job. He just wouldn't give me any money and there were three kids involved,2 of his and one we shared. My mom was always there for me. I was very lucky.

The funny thing about my Mom was that she always wanted me to leave my kids father. When I finally got the courage up to do it, she wanted me to take him back.

My engagement and wedding band are very precious to me - probably my most precious possessions. However, I would sell them if we were going hungry and had no other alternatives. Especially if we had children to provide for. Then again, my husband and I work two jobs each and I do little side things like MyLot to make extra money where I can. We aren't lazy people, and we'd be pretty hard pressed to sell our rings. We'd sell fruit on the highway first. :O)

So did you get a new husband, or at least get rid of the lazy one? I never sold my engagement ring, couldn't get it off. When my first husband wanted to go to truckdriving school, and then while he was on half pay at his first trucking job, we sold class rings, foreign coins and lots of other things to make it through, but it was for the good of our family and it was both of us sacrificing. That is different. Due to some early experiences I was determined to not marry someone who drank, and I did not. That was rough for you.
