Newbies are Victims of Unintentional Mylot Violation.....

Hello Lotters, I know the difference between who is really NEW here and a returnee.although only rare or a few returnees that still violate rules, leave and then come back. but very rare.Returnees don't really asked much about the payments, how to earn here, what's with the star, tactics, personal issues with mylot posting in a discussion and so forth. am one of the those returnees. i made violations too but a lot in my old account, could have been a lot more if it wasn't to the veterans. Often I feel annoyed but I don't hate it or them anymore. Last Year Before Christmas when the Admin added me in the friends list, I seriously recommended the rules and guidelines should pop up first when logging in to mylot before the Ads.thought he said, it sent through email but no one really checks email when they're NEW unless if it's about message with friends discussion. I did open up issues about some of the rules in discussion guidelines that are already outdated and should be changed. then, another veteran lotter in my other discussion mentioned something about rewriting it. Here's the thing, I feel this is now admins fault for not checking the guidelines and reviewing if some of them if they are obselete or now. some veterans are tired of helping and they end up being misinterpreted or the new comer is not listening..were tired of being mistook as an admin or being accused of being a mylot police. This is for the Mylotters who constantly help others in the community. ADMIN, Please Review,Rewrite and Update the Guidelines and Have the Guidelines Pop in when ever a user Logs in to Mylot to be reminded every day I can tell you it makes you're job easier to see who are the hardened Jar heads. Not a referral Link. http://www.mylot.com/o/guidelines.aspx Example Mylot Don'ts. Share PayPal accounts. Please use only one PayPal account per myLot account. the second line is clear but the FIRST line Conflicts with... http://www.mylot.com/nr/editaffiliations.aspx

We raised this particular problem months ago when GAA was still Alice but it seems they forgot to alter it I feel that the Guidelines and FAQs are difficult for those who speak English to understand so those who have English as their second or third language must have an even greater difficulty to comprehend not only each single part, but also the reasons for certain guidelines themselves. What many new users seem not to understand is that older Lotters WILL AND DO help them out. We NEED new Lotters here and it is in the interest of us all to guide them so that they understand how things work here. If they give us new topics to particpate in then we are all onto a winner!

"Many of my referrals never understood mylot and left it." Did you give them any guidance at all? "mylot should now enter another option of verbally getting response which could be verbally listened and answered verbally too." MyLot is a writing site! It is up to us toslow down and not let the 'fast' world take over everything! Do we not have a mind of our own? "reading rules doesn't always fascinates people." They are rules in every sector of life and most of them are based on respect. I agree that many do not like rules and that is too obvious by the way the whole world is going, online or off but that is not an excuse for not reading them or following them.

You know, this may be just my opinion because I know the best way I learn, though I can read well, I find that I understand and more interested in videos. I know it would be a lot of work, but what if mylot made a video, using power point, to explain and even demonstrate an acceptable discussion verses an unacceptable discussion? Yes it will be long as they go over all the rules, but if it was made interesting enough, some people may get it right away..

Some might but... I can't help thinking that as myLot is a discussion site and we need to be able to READ other responses in order to discuss and further the topic, if they can't/won't/don't have time etc. to read the guidelines then this is not the best place for them

I don't know how effective that would be to rewrite the laws and guidelines to make this place run smoothly. There are always people who flout the laws. Maybe admin should send alerts once in a while to remind members of the guidelines or any new addition to the guidelines (if any) so people are reminded that there are house rules to follow. Being a veteran here I try to stick to the guidelines very closely but that doesn't stop my discussions from being deleted. At the end of the day the admin have the upper-hands to decide at their own discretion which and which discussions are to be chopped off.

Hiya zandi. That's not a bad idea. However, I doubt that they'll do that, although I could always be wrong. Goaskalice herself stated some time ago: "Guidelines can be interpreted. They are not hard and fast rules." (This can be seen at: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2219127.aspx?p=2 under response #16) I think this is where the problem lies with a lot of members, regardless of whether they are newbies or not. Because even though guidelines can be "interpreted", a lot of members do not know this and try to follow them to a T (you yourself stated that you try to stick to the guidelines very closely), which in turn only confuses them and anyone else they try to tell it to. It can even cause conflict between members at times. It might even be the reason why some members up and leave. And most, if not all, of this could be avoided if admin would just update the guidelines and make them easier for everyone to read. *sigh* Maybe they'll get around to it one day...

Hello Zandi, If no rewrite then change some of the dont's or do's that are not effective anymore. Well, that would have been better, but unfortunately they won't do it though. That's probably why I dont' make much discussions anymore and in this case, I do my best to make discussions that doesn't get deleted even if there's a zero response to it. Have a nice day.

Hi LetranKnight. I've already mentioned to goaskalice that the guidelines need to be updated in this discussion here: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2219127.aspx?p=2 (My response is #16.) You might just find the conversation that we had of some interest, if you haven't already read it, that is. I hate to say it, but I doubt that admin will be updating the guidelines anytime soon. After all, that discussion is about a year old. Although maybe if enough of us members bring it up with admin they'll finally get around to changing it...

Actually I didn't have to go back that far at all. I just took a peek at Alice's profile. Lucky for me Alice didn't start many discussions and I was able to find it easily... ...but only because it was on page 2. Otherwise I probably would have never found it! LOL Happy New Year to you as well Diana!

Whether or not Alice is around is not the point. The point is that it has been discussed before and nothing became of it. The guidelines are still the same. And unless a bunch of us rally together I don't think it'll ever change. At least, not until admin is good and ready to change it. But I doubt that'll happen for along time, if ever, as it's pretty apparent that they like it just the way it is. Oh, and if you want to point out to the newcomers their mistakes, then great. But just remember that the guidelines are just that and shouldn't be mistaken for rules. So try to keep that in mind when helping out the newbies (or not so newbies) on here. Happy New Year!

I must say you are doing a very good job by posting this Discussion. You are perfectly right I am a returnee too but I never ask Questions about payment and not much about the site too as Mylot is just the same in the past many year's. Newbie's are very much confused and they face a lot of problem in understanding the site. Your Idea is pretty nice. If a pop-up window comes up showing the rules and regulations then it will surely help a lot of people.

Something about me.. Most of the newbies often ask the same Questions again and again so that they get more replies to their Discussion's. I used to do the same thing too.

Hello Pratik, I knew there was something about you. yeah, samething happened to me too, but the rest are just too much asking similar questions when ever they get here. people takes months or years even to get over and get used to the rules once they realize that they're discussions are slowly being deleted one by one.

Hi, I'm actually one of the returnees (I just revisited this site today), so I don't know much about such issues. I'm hoping I have done nothing that violates mylot's rules and guidelines though. I must say, what you are proposing could be a good idea, since it would be good if there are reminders of what the rules around here are. Cheers!

This is still the account I was using in the past, it's just that I was gone for a very long time from the MyLot community. It's great to be back! :P Yeah, yoy're right about it... it's good for the guidelines to be more visible.

Hello Ice, Nice of you to come back, so what has happened to you're old account then? well, it's actually damn simple even though it's not possible now. since the link is here, you can check back here or just browse for the guidelines. although some one did say that we shouldn't compare the rules to the guidelines butwha is to be compared? when am also just proposing the guidelines to be expose more.
5 Jan 11
I don'tknow exactly what made you blame the admin. remember, the admin do need our help despite of the shortage of their staff handling post problems and which one is to be deleted. but you do have a point, if they do what i think you want them to do, maybe their job will be easier since only those who ignores the rules will be exposed

Hello rebelotter, Yeah, that's usually the case here more often. But the problem is that, being a reminder has drastically created gaps between the new comers and veterans. I am not so sure what they are thinking anymore. But of course, I still like it when they delete discussions that are violation of some sort.

Hiya Letran , nice to see you around bro. Hope you are doing fine. Think you may be right .. I find there needs to be an update of the guideline or some fixing to do. When I first joined , I couldn't find the guideline link easily , I had to sift through. So , I can relate to newcomers feeling 'lost' without knowing where to find the guideline and upon reading it too , not understanding certain points as well.

3k posts ?? Whew .. that's really something. You are right .. if there's an update , things will be much easier for newbies. I think the ones just joining will appreciate an update to the FAQs. So let's just wait and see ..

Hello Zed_k4, If it not revision, at least do the update on some of the guidelines. New comers won't violate if they knew the guidelines at least. I had many violations when I had the old account and finally it went down after six months. But that had three thousand post already. Have a Nice day.

It is the responsibility of anyone who joins a site to read the rules, the FAQs and every thing concerning how the site runs in order of him not to go wrong. Sadly, just as I myself sometimes are, people are just too lazy to read rules and this is the reason why violation of rules oftentimes happen. Our failure to diligently read the rules although they are clearly written. Sometimes also it is our failure to understand the rules so that only our experiences teach us how to not to go wrong the next time around. Newbies and veterans alike should read the rules every now and then to be educated and to refreshed respectively. You suggestion of Guidelines popping up upon log in could be helpful but it could be quite annoying to some. Like me, I hate pop ups and I would not want any pop ups to disturb me from starting with posting as fast as I want. But I do go to the Rules and FAQs link whenever I feel like doing so.

Hello Salonga, Yes, but the problem is that some people don't read the guidelines but it's not their fault since I experience with joining with out reading at first. Being in mylot in my first six months and I did nothing much to read the rules of the site until I came back with my new account. The pop up guidelines is the best option lessening violators in the site. Have a nice day.

Hello Ifa225, Yeah, that happened to me too but I was also poking and making word wars when ever there's a roudy user who freely thinks they can just hate other lotters for their language or ethnic race or something. It's a good thing you were able to maintain you're account after all these years. Have a nice days.

I agree that guidelines should be rewritten and I am actually confuse regarding the poll or game. I mean I had a topic last time asking for favorite flavor of yellow cab then I received the notification that my topic that I have posted was deleted because it is a game or poll.
• Philippines
6 Jan 11
Hello Metatronik, I think the game thing is very clear that is a violation. But there are question type discussions that's hard to distinguish whether if it's violation or not. The problem is when people report it and the admin thinks about it, we don't know if the questions should be reviewed or not. Have a great day.

You have a good point that sometimes the rules are outgrown and need revision. Most of us occasionally will break them through either lack of attention or misinterpretation at some point too. Some are also guilty of not bothering to read the rules, or intentionally ignoring them. Revised guidelines are a very good idea.
• Philippines
6 Jan 11
Hello Memnon, Well, some newbies who are new here had broke the rules already with out us knowing about it. Or with out them knowing about it.there are those who have intentionally ignore them, to think no one can get away with it, it seems they are quite the smart but trouble there is that people are also plagiarist. Other users have been caught into this trouble too. Have a nice day and thanks for dropping by.

Thank you for posting this. I need to review the guidelines continuously. Mylot should not be a money making focus, yes you can make money form this wonderful site but it should be more about the content and socialization on this site. This is am amazing site and will get bigger in 2011!! Let's get it!!!

Hello Kathleenquist, Welcome to mylot. Unfortunately, in my view it is sites like friends and facebook is more on money making focus since they don't pay their members while they earn millions of dollars.this site had been around since 2004, I don't mind this site having small population as long as it's a troll, violator free site.

Personally it would be nice if some of the admin would help to update the rules here, and make them more readily available for the NEWBIES here, and also inform them why their discussions are being removed to help encourage them to want to be here instead of having them break the rules and regulations and then get discouraged and end up leaving to actually inform others what a BAD site this is. Truthfully I have been Lucky as I have been here for over 4 yrs. now and only used this name.. but have seen many many wonderful come and go for sure.

Hello KrauseHome, How are you my friend? Well, there isn't much number of the admins being active or I just don't who is online or not. It's nice that you have stick around In these years being active for a lot of reasons. It's nice of you to inform others why they lost their discussions. I have been still doing my best staying away from way to controversional topics. Have a nice day.

Hello Jean25, I agree, but some how we've been having a lot of people mos specially the new ones keep the making the same discussions over and over again. And it can be very tiring to those people who reports the discussion or remind the user which is and not to be discussed. People are starting to think it's not really free to discuss here. Have a nice day.

I don't understand why people continue to behave as if we are here 'for money.' We are not! If you want money--I tell people who think we ARE here for money--GET A JOB IRL (that's 'in real life') Maybe admin's ASHAMED that a lowly 'member' lol found a place where their rules conflict. Get over your shame, admin; and fix the conflict (or explain to us how someone is misinterpreting the rules, and make that misinterpretation impossible)

Hello Mythociate, They don't have to be ashamed of this, but what I want for them is to do something that could improve the community in terms of avoiding further rules. Most people here are now into earning money but also they tend to change like what happened to me so in terms of exchanging conversations. Have a nice day.
