Hi All, Today's Weather report in the newspapers mentioned that my place is having its lowest temperatures ever recorded - and yes, it is 1- Degrees Celsius here. Also many other places are facing the chilly winters. I am over clothed right now to keep myself warm and also having pain typing out as I have arthritis. But hey, a few days back, the headlines (on almost all newspapers around) were mentioning that the world is undergoing something called "Global Warming" and the temperatures around were expected to rise What are your views? Are they somehow related or it was just the newspapers did not have much those days when they were printing Global Warming? Cheers, theSids

Global warming mostly effects the polar ice caps, which in return effects our weather. So yes global warming is happening, its just not getting warmer where you are, its mostly in the polar regions. But it is effecting you by you having colder temps. The US has been hit this year and last year by freaky weather, how can we explain that since its not normal? Global warming. Because if it's not global warming then we are really in big trouble because that would mean that some outside force, the sun, planets, ect. is making all of this stuff happen. We can fix global warming, but we can't fix the universe.

I believe that you are more then 4 years old. I am 42 and I have degenerative bone disease in my spine. So I know what its like to be in major pain when its cold. It gets really bad for me, in fact some days my husband has to help me out of the bed because I can't get up no matter how much I try.

Hi pmbhuntress, I wished they found the fix to the global warming soon dear... good for all of us on the planet. I think they hold meets on the Everest, under the Sea and where ever they find it comfortable for them... but what about the results? The wait is getting longer..... I am just 4 years old (wrt infection of arthritis) but I am worried of those who have more acute pains and also many out there who are on the streets with almost no protection to save them from the wrath of the chilly nights.

Global warming doesn't mean that it's going to get warm all throughout the year. It only means it'll be warmer than usual and it doesn't mean winter is included. It's a season abnormality so it could be that it only gets extremely warm when it's summer. I'm not sure because I'm not really a specialist on the field.

What I'm trying to say is when they say that we're having global warming it might or might not include the winters because, after all, it's caused by the emission of green house gas, which is caused by us, humans. It's an abnormality so you can't always predict it.

Hi frontvisions, I'm not sure because I'm not really a specialist on the field I an no one either when it comes to understanding of what this global warming is all about But seriously, I read on a couple of sites on Internet and the Newspapers(how can I miss mentioning them) that global warming is something when the temperatures rise... And a rise in temperatures should logically mean and include winters too...

the weather seems to be playing with us all. in other parts of our country, there are heavy rains, in some parts there is frost because of the chilly weather. at dawn, i can feel the cold. it had truly changed. we used to experience these kinds of temperature from november to december but now it had changed!

Hello Ms. Bingskee, The weather changes are really hazardous and many people are dying these days just because they are either unable to bear the scorching heat of summers or the chilly freezing cold of the winters. Even the floods of the recent years have been more devastating than the earlier ones. We are surely going to have more bad days in future for our next generations. All we can do is hope for some miracles.

Dear it is the effect of global warming actually since global warming is an increase in the temperature of the earth's atmosphere resulting to climatic change. In fact we are experiencing rain during this season when in fact it should be a dry, cold season but not raining. The extreme weather condition, whether be it cold or hot, is the result of the global warming which melted the ice caps. Thus, the season nowadays is not like it used to be. We have longer summers, and no springs at all, or there could be longer winters.

Hi toni, Longer winters... Lord save me then. The pain in my fingers, knees and back would be hurting me more I loved the winters until I had this pain though... the good and fresh veggies at cheaper prices... so very enticing

I sometimes think "global warming" is a misnomer. I think a better name is "global extremes". On the other hand, the polar ice caps are melting and shrinking, and here we have had an extremely warm winter.

Hi gambama, That is so very good... a warm winter... Wish you could invite me your place during the freezing cold out here Oh yes, the global extremes seems to be more appropriate to me now...

It really is not an option to change 'global warming' into climate change or global extremes. All of the science and all of the effort at reducing greenhouse gases is based on global warming. I'm just saying that the global warming arguments cannot accommodate cooling, but there have always been warming and cooling cycles.

Yes, the temperature here is very chilling in the last few days! After evening as well as early morning running is very painful that I experience, being at the same place as you! Anyway, this winter shows that the summer this year may be perhaps very blazing! I hope, Global-Warming might have gone a change as a result of protections against it Internationally! May be I am correct. Thanks for this discussion!!

Hi Mitraa, hey I didnt know I would find someone from Bhubaneswar here I have a few from Orissa but none from Bhubaneswar. Good you found me and now we are friends. Yes, the mornings are really getting colder this season. I used to go out for a walk in the mornings but they have just helped me to retire to my older sleeping habit and I now wake up really late... The medicines just dont allow me to get up early. And yes, I am worried about the summers ahead coz I have observed the more colder it gets in winters, the summers get more hotter. Maybe I should return back to my geography teacher from school to find out his opinion on this - "why?" thing I wish you are correct and some effects of whatever they have been doing start showing up results.

hello sid...yes...i think we are going towards global chilling... here also in jabalpur we are having temperatures the same way as yours...kids have got vacation again...till 16th...and even sitting in house has become difficult...there are record temperatures (lower) this winter, at most of the places...for young people its still ok...but i am worried about the elderly people who can't tolerate too much cold....may God keep everyone ok ...and healthy...

Hi eshaan, The kids do enjoy out more than us and the older people during winters. When I was at Allahabad in 2000-2003, the winters there I would never forget those days - visibility was quite very low even at 2:00pm (around Dec end and January mid). That was my first experiences of the nature and dangers these winters can actually cause. But the kids at that place were happy - they get so many days off from school. I would join in your wishes too (despite the fact that I need them right now ) - May the winters be less chilly and if they are this or worse, let the people be safe and have something to stay warm.

Hi Sid, Thanks, for seeking clarification. :O) Look, whether you believe the theory or not, it's important to understand the general concept. Global warming does NOT mean that every place on Earth will be warmer any time soon. What it means is that the temperature of the planet overall is rising. As the temperature rises and Arctic ice melts, for example, a lot of places will get colder because the cold water from the ice will reach areas that would normally not receive such cold water. Similar effects will occur with air-flow. Temperature differences such as these create winds, which will make some places colder and other places hotter. However, general heating of the Earth will create definite climate change. The point is that human life is rather fragile. A change of just a few degrees could wipe-out a lot of what we take for granted in civilization. Hope that clears things up a little, Sid. Sunshine (Well, not TOO much of it) & Blessings, Giovani

Hi Giovani, A Little? That clears almost all my doubts and confusions. I had some idea from Stine's response above but this one really helps me have a much better idea. I can now relate it with the Geography Lessons they taught at school. ps: I loved the way you wrote it more.

hello thesids, Weather is becoming unusual/abnormal nowadays. Here in my country, the weather is not normal either..it is colder now. And in my hometown where the climate is always cold...it's on the freezing 0 point now, some animals even die and plants withered due to too much cold. Water freezes and mists the whole day ...sun rays is not even enough to warm the day. I like the coldness now...

Hi jaiho, I loved winters as this was the time I could get my taste buds really enjoy. Now, the winters are getting an unbearable kind of thing for me. The weather is now more windy, colder and also as you mention sun rays are not warm enough to bring some respite.

The sids, this is just the effect of global warming. When the temperature across the globe rises the cold ice in arctic and antarctic melts. It is brought down into the seas, and the temperature of the sea goes down, but not enough to let the ice form again. Trust me in a year or two you would see the most severe summer of your life, before another round of such severe winter. Now the speed of such seasonal changes would become more erratic.

Hi Vandana, I am scared of the Winters and yes, I believe the summers would be getting hotter... It would be 50+ (degrees C) this summer for sure here as last year we had reached 48 deg C. The better part for people here is that evenings are a bit cool as we are near the sea but I wonder how it would be in places distant from the sea.

Hello Sid, i'm sorry it's so cold there. Usually temperatures around 0 are normal here in the winter. Right now it's -2 Celsius here and it's better than it has to be. In the news they said that this winter will be awful. In Europe the forecast was something like -30 in really cold and freezing days. I think that Global Warming is not because the weather will be hot as hell, but because of it's anomalies. Here we have really hot summer and very cold winters lately and it's anomaly for that part of Europe. When i was kid it was nearly that way, not so cold in the winter, but with snow. Summers was with low temperatures, still hot, but not so much as it is now.

My friend,I can imagine how cold you are now! My hubby is in Europe but still he says it's really cold out there what more in your place! Globang warming is really happening now Sids,as far as what I understand from it,it is a climate change, weird change as I may say. We just have to be very careful with our health because of this climate change so take care friend! See you around!

Hello Sid, Whatever may be the reason; this time the winter is very much harsh (that is what I felt). There was some in relief for two days in between but again there is some snow falls in neighbouring states and it affected us again. I am facing many problems with house chorus and my kids are yelling me while taking bath. (Severe cold is a reason for ‘not taking a bath’). It is for only this month and I think the cool will be over by end of January. I guess the summer will be harsher this time…

I feel the same. Newspaper mentioned that this year would be the coldest one ever than 35 years. “Global warning” is put forward in these years that the carbon dioxide is raising much in the aerosphere of the earth. I think “Global warning” is not only referring that the temperature will get high. It means that the temperature would become unstable. In hot weather, it may snow; in cold weather, it may be very hot. Creature would be punished if we don’t know how to protect the planet we are living.

The news, at least what i am hearing of it, is no longer calling it global warming, but have started calling it global climate change. The temperatures are swinging from extreme highs to extreme lows. It has been several days since the students have been able to go out for recess due to the wind chill.

I hear you, Global Warming is an outdated and no longer accepted term for use, as the more accurate term of Global Climate Change has come into existance. I learned this during an environmental course i took last semester. It kinda ruined all my belief in the general publics science views as Global Warming was a very supported theory. Global Climate Change just sounds like a more liberal approach, as it gives the oppurtunities for the climate to go both ways.
