Taking pictures of your cat

Do any of you spend hours trying to get pictures of your pets? Sookie is our little female tabby, and she won't sit still for pictures. My son needed a picture of her for a school project (she is his cat) and I literally spent hours trying to get her to hold still! I finally snapped this one after she finished eating--I guess she was too distracted to run. Are your pets camera hogs or do they run at the sight of a camera?

Lots and lots. My fiancé spends more time then I do taking pictures of our pets. Sometimes I think she should be a pet photographer. She definitely has enough experience. Our pets seem to enjoy the attention. More so the dog then the cat, but she has a way with the cat that I don't. It's fun and allows us to bond with the animals in an interactive way.

Is sookie named after true blood?

If she is that good, she should consider it as a career choice--people pay LOTS of money for pet pictures. Sookie came from the vet's with that name. She was abandoned by her owner, rescued by Animal Rescue, and brought to our vet's office, where we adopted her. We THINK that's who she is named after, because that's the only Sookie we know of. And my son liked the name, so he kept it.

Thanks for the suggestion, she will love it! However she has a high paying career and wouldn't be able to make as much doing that. Really awesome! It's cool that you rescued that cat. All animals need a good home and a fair chance at being appreciated. Hopefully that is where the name came from because I like me some true blood.

I am owned by 2 cats & I have pictures of them hiding behind a box. Yes, you understand, I actually have a picture of a box that the cats ducked behind just as I went to snap the pic...4 different times!!! I pick up my camera & all I see are feet & tails running down the hall. My last cat had the ability to curl up in a tiny little ball every time I picked up my camera or my cell!!! You could see it was a furbaby, but it was indistinguishable what kind of furbaby it was!!! I have just learned that most cats are just camera shy...atleast in my house!!! On the other side, my dogs love it so much they stick their faces right into the lens & you still can't see what I'm taking a picture of!!!!

VERY FUNNY, and true in our house, too (at least the cat part). I hope it's a nice box, one that you want to display prominently in your photo album or scrapbook!

I am always taking pictures of my kitty. She likes to sleep in really cute ways so I always end up taking allot of sleeping pictures. But I also have gotten allot of awake ones too, she doesn't run away from the camera but sometimes she likes to get as close as she can to it to smell the lens.

My older cats--1 male, 1 female--let me take their pictures, but I think it's because they are too lazy to get up and move away! The two kittens, Sookie and Muffin, are tougher--Sookie runs away from the camera, and Muffin runs towards it (and me!)

My daughter is very fond of our pets and our neighbor's pets. We have two dogs which is always the content of my phone's memory every time she got hold of it. She even asked to me to have it printed so that she could put it in our albums. At first I thought it would just fade when she's had enough pictures. But she has proven it wrong when she wont just stopped doing it until my phone 's memory is full. She now have her pet album almost full. :(

I think that's great. My younger son loves taking pictures so much that we bought him his own (used) digital camera. he takes very good care of it and has taken some wonderful pictures--especially of our cats!

Wow! that's cute. I also have a cat at home, still very cute and adorable although he is very old..heheh.. But we love and we always make sure we spend time with him.. Sometimes we do take pictures of him.. quite very amusing to see especially together with our dog. They look cute together..

The only time that i can get a good picture of my cat, is when it is either getting settled down for a sleep, or when it is actually asleep.I think that there are times where as i have the camera on the go and when i go to take a photo the cat then decides to run and with that it is a blurred picture and is no good.

That's usually how it is for me, too, with the exception of my oldest cat, who just doesn't care either way and sits there looking bored.

Elmer - taken thru a window!
I don't see a pix. No, most of my cats are more than happy to sit still, except for the feral cats, they run if you look at them too long! see the notched ear? its the right ear so we know its Elmer!

I'm not sure what happened--the picture ended up on the pictures at the top of the "cats" interest section--it's the one of the tabby licking her nose. I am still new to this picture posting thing--I'll get the hang of it eventually!

Sookie licking her nose - A picture of our 1-year-old tabby Sookie, who hates having her picture taken!
Maybe I can add it again here--let's see.

My cats arent camera shy at all. They are pretty much unphased by it. Before my kids were born and my cats were very small they were my babies I took pictures of them all the time. Now they are pretty much just a nuseance as terrible as that sounds. I still do take pictures of them once in awhile though.

That may be why my two older cats are not as annoyed/scared by the camera--I had them before I had my kids. The two younger cats are post-kid, and much younger.

We have a dog but we used to have cats too. I take some pictures here and there but I definitely don't spend hours doing it. I guess I just don't have the time or desire.

What kind of pet did she have? There are some that are complete camera hounds (no pun intended)--that's why they make their owners tons of money (Lassie, Benjy, the Taco Bell Chihuahua, to name a few).

I have one cat that doesn't care if I put a camera in her face. I have another cat that will leave when she sees the camera. I think the camera lens may look like a threatening animal or something. I am able to get excellent pics of her with my zoom lens.

Ah, the hours I've spent over the years trying to get great kitty pictures. I've had camera-shy kitties, and kitty supermodels. One cat was notorious about sticking her nose up against the camera, so it took me quite a while to get a picture of anything but whiskers and nostrils with her! My best luck with cat pictures have been candid snap shots, when they didn't realize I'm in the room. I've had to use my cell phone for those, however, since the sound of my camera itself opening as it turned on always catches their attention and sends them running (some away, some straight to the camera). Some of the best pictures I've gotten are when the farm cats aren't aware I'm standing at the window with a camera. My mom recently captured some great pictures of the cats on snow, looking like they were ice skating. Another favourite is one of the younger cats on a slim branch in a cedar tree. It almost looks like she's floating in the tree, since the branch itself is barely visible (I still have no idea how it held her, I didn't think it was large enough to support a cat, even a small one).

What beautiful pictures you must have. I had a cat that constantly sniffed and licked the camera whenever I tried to take his picture; consequently, most of the pictures I have on him are when he was sleeping. It's a shame, because he did some crazy stuff that I would have LOVED to snap pictures of--like chasing after a garden hose (with the water on) or lying on the bed tummy side up with his head hanging over the edge, or trying to climb the Christmas tree. But as soon as he saw that camera, there he was, sniffing the lens!
